Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  3/8/11.

Sport was much slower for the BAS squad open at the week-end than it has been at recent Bridgnorth river matches and for the first time that anyone can remember in a July contest, four of the five sections were won with less than double figures, even though the river was in fine trim.

Match winner Wayne Lee (Bell Otters) was the only competitor to top 20lbs, having tempted five barbel with pellet feeder at peg 93 in the channel. With an average weight of just over 5lbs each, the catch added up to 25-11-0.

Runner up Andy Ison (Cambridge) also landed five barbel at peg 51 in the damsons, but they were a smaller stamp than those of the winner and returned 18-7-0.

Chris Simmonds (Northwich) and Billy Ashington (Starlets) tied for third each having 15-7-0. Tony Bouckley (Wolverhampton) was in the frame again, finishing fifth on 11-2-0, leaving Dave Beecroft (Cambridge) to complete the frame with 10-13-0.

Bridgnorth have a Saturday afternoon open on the river this week, draw 1.00pm at the Vine, £15 all in, contact Rosa on 01746 766774.

Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) clinched the July Preston Innovations individual league at Boldings Pools with a win on the final Sunday of the month.

The match produced a close finish and Sean’s 119-3-0 gave him a slender 1-5-0 advantage at the end of the day. He was on Willows peg 19 and fished pellet and maggot shallow to contact carp to 5lbs to build his weight.

At Chestnut peg 38 Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) fished pellet at 5 metres and down the side to find carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs for his total of 117-14-0.

Also on the Chestnut was third placed John Wild (Stafford) who scaled 111-9-0 and Shane Rogers (Oakengates Ang Cent) made an all ton top four with his Ash best of 101-12-0.

The Monday open was another match to give a close finish when Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) got back into his Monday rhythm by taking top spot from Beech peg 7. Corn and pellet at 5 metres and to each side of the point put carp to 8lbs in the net for 114-15-0.

The fish ran a bit smaller at Beech 23, where Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) offered pellet and meat down the side to net 113-1-0 of carp to 6lbs for second.

Eric Bancroft (R&G) had a Hawthorn best of 87-6-0 to finish third, with another Hawthorn catch of 78-3-0 giving Alistair Blakeman (Chebsey) fourth.

Carl Foster (PI Boldings) was a clear winner on Wednesday when he drew point peg 13 on the Sycamore and put together 112-5-0, which included carp to double figures, caught on pellet and corn at 5 metres and close in.

Matt Stobbs (Oak Ang Cent) was on the long bank at peg 40 and had a mix of carp to 7lbs and barbel to 2lbs on corn at 3 metres for 67-3-0 to pick up second. Third went to Mansfield Ang cent rod Jeff Thorpe on 61-11-0 at peg 31 and Pete Moss (R&G) had 56-15-0 at peg 20 in 4th.
