Boldings report

Boldings Report 25/08.

The rough weather on Sunday seemed to stir the fish up at Boldings and Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) put more than double the Saturday winning weight on the scales. Fishing corn and pellet, close in at peg 7 on the Chestnut saw Gareth netting carp to 10lbs on his way to the weeks best total of 141-5-0.

Ed Turner (OB Wolves) also had the fish going well at peg 33 on the Sycamore. He fished pellet at 4 metres and corn over pellet close in to find carp to 8lbs, ending the day on 111-8-0. Third man Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) wasn’t far off the ton with 96-2-0 at Sycamore 30, and an Oak best of 75-9-0 saw Harry Colley (OB Wolves) frame for the second time, having finished third the previous day.

The mid week matches gave tight frames, with 2lbs being the difference between the top two on Wednesday and less a pound and a half on Thursday.

Wednesdays winner was Graham Evason (OBW) with a mix of carp to 6lbs and bream to 3lbs, caught on corn and pellet at 8 metres from peg 25 on the Sycamore.

Andy Williams (Vespe) had bigger carp, fish to 7lbs, but smaller bream, up to 2lbs, at peg 8, fishing maggot and corn close in. Those smaller cost him, as he finished on 73-5-0. Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had 65-3-0 at peg 13 for third, and mark Mountford had top weight on the Willows, 56-15-0 at peg 13, to finish 4th.

Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) scored the first leg of a winning double on Thursday, when he went out to 5 metres off point peg 13 on the Sycamore, to offer corn. Carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lb responded, to give Dave figures of 64-7-0.

It was a close run thing though, with Andy Williams having to settle for a close second again. He was Chestnut peg 32 this time, where carp to 6lbs, on corn fished to each side of the peg, added up to 63-2-0.

Back on the Sycamore, Mick Jameson finished third again, putting 60-9-0 on the scales at peg 50, and Wednesdays winner Graham Evason framed again with 56-12-0 at peg 47.

‘Barney’ drew Sycamore 13 again on Saturday and had virtually the same weight to win again, putting just 6 ounces more on the scales to weigh 64-13-0. he had to out a bit further to find the fish, offering corn at 10 metres to earn the win.

Peg 32 on the Chestnut provided the runner up again, this time for Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) who had a level 57 lbs on corn at 4 metres.

Harry Colley had the first of his two placings when he scaled 52-6-0 at Sycamore 42. Two Dorset Pools based men, Kevin Melville and martin Davenport were separated by one ounce, in the remaining places, Kevin having 48-2-0 at Chestnut 18 and Martin 48-1-0 at peg 37 on the same pool.

Boldings report

Boldings Report 18/6/08.

Tony Foster (OB Wolves) set a blistering pace at Boldings Pools this week, winning the first open of the week t the complex on Wednesday with a double ton weight, and following up with another big win at the week-end.

Drawn on peg 18 on the Ash, on Wednesday, Tony set to work with shallow fished pellet, out towards the middle of the pool at 13 metres, and was soon hitting into a constant stream of carp between 1lb and 3lbs. They just kept coming throughout the match, giving a final total of 205-0-0.

Last Wednesday’s winner Andy Williams (Vespe) recorded his second Wednesday ton on the trot, but this time it added up to less than half the winners weight. He was on peg 1 on the Hawthorn, and had carp to 8lbs on corn and pellet, fished into the corner. To weigh 100-6-0. back on the Ash, Chris Holmes (Bridgnorth AS) picked up third, totaling 85-14-0 at peg 16, and next door to him Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had a level 79lbs in 4th.

Things were a little less hectic on Thursday when 86-12-0 from peg 27 on the Sycamore gave Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) a leg up from third last Thursday to first this week. Colin fished pellet at 5 metres and corn down the side to net carp to 9lbs to ease ahead of Howard Williams (Weston Pools).

Howard was on Oak peg 8 and had all his fish, carp to 8lbs, on shallow caster tactics, which resulted in 78-4-0 going onto the scales. A Chestnut best of 65-9-0 gave Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) third, with Adam Slade (VDE) just behind on 64-13-0 at Chestnut 30.

Catches were on the up again on Saturday when Tony Foster took on the winners mantle for the second time.

It was the Larch Pool which came up with the goods this time, with shallow pellet tactics again proving best, giving Tony  figures of 101-7-0.

Caster, fished to each side of peg 23 on the Sycamore tempted carp to 8lbs and bream to 4lbs for Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) but not enough of them to trouble the winner, as Ralph fell short by 25lbs when he scaled 75-11-0. Brian Clarke (Maver Midlands) was on point peg 13 on the Sycamore, where 68-8-0 gave him third and a Beech best of 66-12-0 put Alf Taylor (OB Wolves) into 4th.

Richard duke (WB Clarke) adopted the shallow pellet approach at peg 30 on the Chestnut on Sunday, going out to 12 metres to find his fish. Find them he did, and slid the net under carp to 8lbs to put together a 121-1-0 winner, to make it four different pools topping the card on each of the four opens.

Carl Foster (OB Wolves) also fished pellet at 12 metres at peg 5 on the Larch, where carp in the 2lb to 5lb range added up to 102-7-0 for second place.

Third went to Harry Colley (OB Wolves) for the second week running. He was on Chestnut 32, and scaled 75-9-0, leaving Nige Williams (RAF) to finish off the week with 72-6-0 at Chestnut 7.

Boldings report

Boldings Report 11/6/08.

Meanwhile, on the stillwater venues, the hot weather has suited some, but caused a drop in catches at others., maybe because after last summer and the spring of this year, hot weather feels like a new experience.

Boldings was one of the fisheries where the fish were happy with the warmth, and gave two ton up winning catches.

First of these went to Andy Williams (Vespe) on Wednesday, and came from peg 5 on the Middle Pool. Combining corn and pellet at 5 metres, Andy netted a succession of carp to 7lbs to finish on 118-3-0. Second placed Martin Travis (Sensas Total Angling) was leading light on the Hawthorn Pool, taking 95-3-0 from peg 1. he fished corn and pellet close in, alternated with shallow pellet in open water, and included carp to 6lbs in catch.

Third went to 74-9-0 from jack Hailey (OB Wolves) at Middle peg 3, and opposite jack at peg 10, Mark Mountford (Shifnal) scaled 69-7-0 in 4th.

On Thursday Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) slipped into top spot at ‘corner’ peg 3 on the Beech Pool. Fishing paste to the paddles and out at 6 metres, he picked off carp to 8lbs on his way to 89-1-0.

Andy Williams added a second spot to his list with a Chestnut best of 69-14-0. This time Andy fished corn in the margins, and shallow pellet at 6 metres, to net 69-14-0 at peg 16.

Third man Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was also on the Chestnut, scaling 63-1-0 at peg 36. Close behind him was Rod Arnold (Cannock) on 62-2-0 at Beech peg 11.

Darren Frost (Shimano Wales) had the best weight of the week on Saturday when the Sycamore Pool came into the reckoning with the top two catches. Darren concentrated on shallow fished caster at peg 30, in the corner at the end of the long bank, and was helped to 121-14-0 by carp to 9lbs.

Matt Stobbs (Rod & Gun) switched between shallow fished maggot and corn close in at peg 22, where carp to 8lbs added up to 90-2-0.

Harry Colley (OB Wolves) had a Chestnut best of 73-10-0 at peg 21 for third overall, with Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) 4th on 69-5-0 at peg 13 on the Sycamore.

Dave Brown (Wolves) followed up a brace of placings last week with a win on Sunday this week. Shallow fished maggot in open water, and the same bait close in brought 86-4-0 of carp to 8 lbs. to Dave’s net, putting him 24 lbs ahead of Harry Colley, who framed for the second time in two days. Harry had an Oak Pool best of 62-4-0, taken on meat out in the pool, combined with pellet in the side at peg 7.

Andy Williams also framed again, a Chestnut top of score of 54-6-0 giving him third, just ahead of Andy Amos (Sensas) on 54-1-0, also on the Chestnut.

Boldings report

Boldings Report 4/6/08

Tony Foster (OB Wolves) was the man of the week at Boldings Pools, taking the top catch of the week to romp home in first place on the Wednesday open, scaling 141-3-0. The catch consisted of a lot of carp in the 1lb to 3lb range, and fell to shallow fished pellet at peg 16 on the Ash Pool.

On the opposite side of the Ash, Pete Plant (Maver Midlands) worked with caster close in at peg 7, and while he had carp to 6lbs, he couldn’t match the winners catch rate, and finished well behind on 60-15-0.

Along at peg 4 on the Ash Harry Colley (OB Wolves followed up last weeks win with a third by scaling 55-0-0. Best on the Willows Pool, and 4th overall was Martin Travis (Sensas TA) on 43-12-0 at peg 13.

Dan Shinton (Bridgnorth) came out on top in a close finish with Jeff Harston (Weston Pools) on Thursday. They were opposite each other on the Sycamore Pool, with Dan on peg 32, where corn and pellet at 6 metres and close in attracted carp to 6lbs. Jeff  fished pellet, up in the water at peg 23, and had carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs.

When scales settled, Dan was credited with 63-10-0, and Jeff was one fish behind on an even 60lbs.

Paul Cartwright (OB Wolves) just scraped home in third with a Chestnut best of 53-6-0, with Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) hard on his heels with an Oak Pool best of 53-3-0.

Paul Cartwright moved up to first place on Saturday to follow up his Bank Holiday win of last week. This time he was on the Larch Pool and fished pellet at 10 metres, towards the island at peg 24, and netted carp to 7lbs for a 75-6-0 total.

Dave Brown (Wolverhampton) opted for shallow fished maggot at peg 16 on the Beech, and had carp from 1lb to 4lbs in a runner net of 58-9-0. Close behind Dave was fellow Wolves rod Tom Lee on 57-1-0 at Beech peg 3.

Back on the Larch Dave Barnard (R&G) scaled 49-12-0 at peg 15 to take 4th, and best on the Ash was 5th man Ralph Johnson on 47-10-0.

On Sunday it was Mel Kitson’s turn to convert a mid week placing to a week-end win, and at the same time make it four different pools giving the winning catch.

Mel drew peg 5 on the Willows and alternated paste at 5 metres with corn close in to ease ahead of the field. His final tally of 77-6-0 was mainly carp to 5lbs, but included  a belting bream of 7lbs.

Second went to an Oak Pool best of 63-2-0 by John Newton (WB Clarke) who fish the margins with maggot for carp to 6lbs. Dave Brown framed again with another pool best, taking a close third from the Chestnut with 62-12-0, with Jack Hailey (OB Wolves) just behind on 60-7-0, also from the Chestnut. Best on the Sycamore was Phil Rhodes (Mid Leisure) on 59-4-0.
