Boldings report    29-3-16.

Steve Owen [Monkhall] got the week off to a flying start at Boldings Pools by heaving in 105-7-0 to claim the spoils in the Monday open. Pegged on Oak 31 Steve operated with corn to fish at 8 metres interspersed with periods of offering caster down the side, both approaches resulting in carp 5lbs barbel 3lbs being netted.

Phil Shaw [Preston Inno Boldings] fished shallow, and to the sides of the point with caster at Beech peg 7 to finish second with 74-15-0 of carp to 5lbs. Third also came from the Beech when Owen Boswell [PI Bold] slid 69-6-0 onto the scales directly opposite the runner up, at peg 23. Peg 29 on the Oak provided Richard Duke [Middle Severn Angling] with a level 65-00 for fourth.

Jason Andrews [Tricast Weston] has been compiling quite a list of wins at Boldings Pools during March, and extended it on Wednesday with victory on the Chestnut Pool, which is the fourth different pool he has won from. Peg 14 was the peg from which Jason bagged 84-13-0 to notch up this success.

Back round at peg 7 Harry Colley [PI Bold] tried to stay with the winner but fell 23lbs behind to finish on 61-2-0. At peg 30 Alun Jones [Drennan] weighed in 55-1-0 to claim third, and at peg 36 Paul Evans [PI Bold] had 51-1-0 in fourth.

Waggler and maggot tactics put Nomads rod Steve Forest at the head of the field on Thursday, helping to net 84-13-0 at Willows peg 16.

Steve Owen tagged a second place onto his first of Monday, his runner up 68-12-0 being the top weight from the Chestnut, and came from peg 36. Tony Foster [PI Bold] wasn't far behind at Chestnut peg 14, where he scaled 64-1-0. Back on the Willows Dave Brown [Maver] completed the frame with 59-14-0 from peg 5.

Good Friday turned out to be just that for Simon Christian [Sedgley] when he found carp to 8lbs lining up to have a go at his bread punch bait at peg 16 on the Larch Pool. Fishing up in the water at 16 metres saw Simon hammer out a superb cold weather weight of 163-3-0.

Steve Roberts [Oakengates Ang Cent] was busy too, at peg 13 on the Sycamore, where he also went for a bread punch approach, to fish to each side of the point. Steve included carp to 9lbs in a runner up total of 108-13-0. Last week's top weight winner Mick Jameson [PI Bold] collected third by weighing 74-11-0 at Sycamore 33 leaving Jamie Langford [PI Bold] on 61-11-0 to pocket fourth prize.

Strong winds and heavy rain tested the resolve of the anglers in the Saturday open, but catch rates on the Hawthorn Pool were relatively high, with Nige Clarke [Monkhall] needing all of his fish to claim the top spot. He was on peg 13 and caught on corn, fished to each side of the peg, with carp to 6lbs adding up to 88-12-0.

Simon Christian was close to scoring an Easter double, finishing one fish short on 84-11-0 at peg 7, having caught on punched bread again. Third, at peg 13 was Jason Atwell [Kingswinford] with a weight of 73-13-0 and at peg 5 Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] had 65-12-0 to take fourth.

Boldings report    22-3-16.

Anglers at Boldings Pools were able to enjoy a rare day of sunshine last Monday and Tony Woolaston [Fatty's] made the most of it break the 100lb barrier comfortably to winning Mondays open with 120-14-0. Tony's heavyweight haul came from peg 11 on the Beech Pool, where carp in the 5lbs bracket homed in to mop up his pellet bait, presented on the close in line.

The Oak Pool provided Alun Jones [Drennan] with his runner up 70-13-0, which came from peg 13. Combining pellet and maggot, worked close to the paddles and on the 5 metre  line attracted carp to 6lbs into the swim for Alun. Carl Foster [Preston Inno  Boldings] was over on Oak 22 where 62-5-0 gained him third, which left Mick Foan [Rod & Gun]a close fourth on 59-12-0 at Beech 23.

Even though it was a cold, grey day with a bitter east wind , Mick Jameson [PI Bold] set the best weight of the week on Wednesday after he drew peg 42 on the Sycamore. Bread and maggot, worked close to the bank, resulted in a fine mix of carp to 8lbs, with barbel and bream to 4lbs which  added up to 129-0-0.

Over on point peg 8 Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] used the same bait combination as the winner to fish at 5 metres as well as close in, and he too had carp to 8lbs with some bream to 4lbs,but his catch rate was slower, leaving him on 73-13-0 at the whistle. Third went to Steve Forest [Nomads]at corner peg 50 where he recorded 67-3-0 and close behind him, on 66-11-0 was Simon Richardson [Maver].

Maver hot rod Dave Lloyd picked up the first of two winners purses this week with victory in the Thursday open, when his decision to present his pellet and maggot on long pole gear at Sycamore peg 8 paid dividends. Going out to 12 metres kept the bites coming from carp to 7lbs, bream to 3lbs and barbel to 3lbs, and Dave eased clear of the field to finish with a 12lbs advantage and a weight of 94-6-0.

Howard Williams [Weston Pools] collected his second successive Thursday runner up prize by recording the top weight on the Willows Pool, 82-2-0. Howard drew peg 14 and worked with pellet waggler to net carp to 6lbs and barbel to 4lbs. Third man Dave Brown [Maver] topped the Chestnut carp with 77-12-0 and 72-5-0 from Sycamore 24 put Floyd Burnside [PI Bold] into fourth.

A return visit to Boldings by Lloyd saw him return to the winners rostrum on Saturday, but this was a much closer finish than Thursdays had been, as fellow Maver man Dave Brown finished only one ounce adrift to frame again.

Lloyd drew on the Larch Pool this time, and worked his pellet and maggot shorter, going out to 7 metres at peg 22. The fish were of a smaller stamp, all carp to 5lbs, which gave a reduced final tally of 55-5-0.

Brown had another pool best weight, this one coming from the Willows, where maggot on the straight lead as well as at 13 metres on the pole, brought in carp and barbel of 5lbs and 4lbs which totaled 55-4-0 at peg 18. Mark Stevens [Stevens Tackle] kept things tight with his 52-15-0 for third at Willows peg 13, while a Sycamore best of 44-7-0 took fourth for Alan Naylor [Oakengates Ang Cent].

Weights were back up again on Sunday when Sean Barber [Maver] booked his place at the top of the prize list with a mix of carp to 7lbs and barbel to 4lbs at Willows peg 8. Sean opted for pellet, which he presented on the pole at 13 metres, to net a haul of 85-1-0.

Along at Willows peg 5 Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] worked his pellet at 7 metres to find 72-6-0 on carp to 6lbs and barbel to 4lbs. Top rod on the Sycamore was Shane Rogers [Oak Ang Cent] with a third overall 68-8-0 at peg 16, and one fish behind him was Gareth Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] on 64-14-0 at Sycamore 48.

report

The  week began slowly at Boldings Pools on a cold and blustery Monday when a level 49-0-0 gave Ryan Burgwine [Drennan] a big advantage over the rest in the Monday open. Carp to 5lbs and  barbel to 4lbs put Ryan in charge of proceedings, the fish coming to maggot and pellet, 8 metres out from peg 16 on the Willows Pool.

Dave Doughty [Woodend] had less than half the winners weight, 23-9-0,to finish second. He was on the other side of the pool, at peg 8, and had carp to   4lbs on maggot. Steve Forest [Nomads] and Steve Owen [Monkhall] battled for third, with Forest just getting the place by 20-13-0 to 20-12-0. They were on pegs 4 and 5.

The heavy rain in the week left anglers in the Wednesday open having to contend with flooded pools, but contend they did and last week's double winner Jason Andrews [Weston Pools] picked up another win by presenting his pellet bait at 13 metres, and to the paddles at Stock peg 7. Carp in the 4lbs bracket accepted the bait, and at the finish, Jason had a level 52-0-0 to hand over to the scales.

Round at peg 4 Stuart Aston [Swan AC] worked maggot to the stumps, and at 7 metres to net carp to 3lbs, which left him to finish a brace of fish shy of the top weight on 46-4-0. Over at peg 10 Steve Forest framed again by sharing 3rd place with Paul Evans [PI Boldings] at peg 11, both men weighing in 38-6-0.

Thursday saw a very close finish with only 2 ounces between first and second places. Jordan Hall [Middy] was the man to just squeeze home in first when his pellet at 7 metres and maggot at 10 metres put 73-5-0 of carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs in the weigh tub at Sycamore peg 33.

Howard Williams [Weston Pools] might have more fish than the winner but the carp at peg 13 ran a bit smaller, with fish to 5lbs together with bream to 3lbs making up a net of    73-3-0. Howard also caught on pellet and maggot, which he worked at 4 metres. Simon Richardson [Maver] was only one fish behind second with his 70-4-0 at peg 4. Fourth went to the top weight from the Larch Pool, 54-3-0, which was  recorded by Andy Sherwood [P I Bold] at peg 4.

Scott Doodson [Maver] turned Sycamore peg 4 into a winner on Saturday with a maggot to the far bank approach which netted him 64-5-0 of carp to 7lbs.

That was too much for Les Thompson [Matrix] despite the fact that he included a carp of 16lbs in his net. Les fished maggot at 12 metres and close in at Sycamore 50, where most of his fish were in the 5lbs range, and he finished on 58-7-0. Third came from the same area of the Sycamore as the top two when Steve Roberts [Oakengates Ang Cent] scaled 56-0-0 at peg 6. Fourth came from the Larch again, going to Jamie Langford [PI Bold] who had 52-6-0 at peg 14.

For the second week running Dave Brown [Maver] set the top weight of the week to win the Sunday open, and what a weight it was this week.

Drawn on point peg 8 he operated with shallow maggot to fish out from the point, alternated with forays to the margins around the point, and picked  off carp to 8lbs as well as barbel to 4lbs to build a tremendous 151-10-0 total.

Runner up Rob Hancox [Kings] found his very respectable Willows best of 80-14-0, caught on pellet and maggot at 13 metres and down the edge of peg 16, completely overshadowed by the winners haul.

Paul Wheeler [PI Bold] was close behind in third, his level 79-0-0 came from Willows peg 14. Jamie Langford collected another fourth with his71-4-0 from Sycamore 4.

report

Boldings report    9-3-16.

Jason Andrews [Weston Pools] made his trip down from Oswestry to Bridgnorth pay off with a comfortable win in the Monday open at Boldings Pools.

Fishing to the far bank of Oak peg 18 with maggot saw Andrews pull clear of a close three way battle for the remaining prize places, with a steady supply of carp in the 6lbs bracket adding up to 77-3-0.

Best of the rest was Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] at peg 16. Colin included roach and skimmers to a pound with carp to 5lbs in his runner up 48-10-0, all caught on maggot at 12 metres. Steve Owen [Monkhall] at peg 11 and Phil Rhodes [PI Boldings] at peg 4 each weighed 46-1-0 to share third.

Andrews returned to Boldings on Wednesday and struck gold again to make it two wins in two trips. The going was much harder this time, with near blizzard conditions at times putting Larch Pool in a subdued mood, and Jason was under pressure from Graham Palmer [PI Bold] all the way to the whistle. Pegged on number 22 the Weston man, like Mondays runner up, had carp, with skimmers and roach in a winning net of 31-13-0, which fell to maggot at 10 metres.

Palmer was on peg 24, and he too caught at 10 metres using maggot, and also had carp skimmers and roach to finish less than 2lbs behind on 30-1-0. Steve Owen was third again, his level 28-0-0 coming from peg 4, and just along the bank at peg 6 Mick Perry [PI Bold] scaled 26-8-0 in fourth.

Persistence paid off for Steve Owen on Thursday when he followed up his two third place finishes with a reasonably comfortable win from corner peg 50 on the Sycamore Pool. As in all of the matches last week, maggot was the top bait, and Steve worked it at 13 metres to contact carp and barbel, with fish of 6lbs and 4lbs respectively giving a winning total of 71-9-0.

Phil Taylor [Dams & Locks] opted for a maggot feeder approach at Willows peg 14 and was rewarded with an all barbel catch of 57-9-0, which featured samples to 5lbs. Back on the Sycamore, last Thursdays winner Paul Davies [Willenhall] pulled in 48-11-0 at peg 8 to pick up third, and then it was back to Willows for the 38-15-0 which handed fourth to Jordan Hall [Middy] at peg 17.

Weights dipped again on Saturday when rain and sleet moved back in to depress the anglers as well as the fish. Ken Humphreys  joined Jason Andrews in making the trip from Oswestry a worthwhile one by claiming a win. Ken presented maggot close in and at 10 metres from peg 14 on the Beech to put himself in touch with carp to 5lbs and a total of 39-7-0.

Steve Owen completed a highly successful week at the complex by recording the top weight on the Oak Pool to add a runner up spot to his list. His maggot to the far bank at peg 31 resulted in 35-3-0 of carp to 4lbs going onto the scales. At Beech peg 7 Chris Newbrook [Oakengates Ang Cent] had a level 31-0-0 in third, and back on the Oak 4th went to Kel Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] on 28-11-0.

Better weather brought better weights on Sunday and Dave Brown {Maver] set the best of the week to score a narrow victory. He was on peg 48 on the Sycamore and only to go out to 5 metres to find carp to 7lbs and barbel to 4lbs with maggot bait. At the whistle he had managed to stay one fish ahead of runner up Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] and weighed in 83-5-0 for victory.

Andy was on the Oak Pool, at peg 27 and worked maggot to the stumps and at 6 metres an all carp 81-4-0, featuring fish to 5lbs. Round at corner peg 31 on the Oak, Scott Doodson [Maver] put his name on third with a net of 68-1-0. Then it was back to the Sycamore where another Maver rod, Sean Barber, had 62-14-0 for fourth at peg 13.

Wednesday 2 March 2016

report

Boldings report    2-3-16.

Maggot remained the top bait all week at Boldings Pools, being the chosen offering of all of the match winners.

Steve Owen [Monkhall] set the ball rolling in the Monday open, offering the 'grub' at 12 metres, as well as close to the bank at peg 14 on the Beech Pool, which resulted in a lovely net carp, roach and bream weighing 64-10-0.

Runner up Steve Forest [Nomads] drew on the Hawthorn Pool and used maggot at 9 metres to finish close behind the winner with 62-5-0 of carp to 6lbs at peg 13. Beech peg 7 provided Darren Warden [Kings] with his third best 48-6-0, and an Ash Pool top catch of 39-12-0 put Alan Naylor [Oakengates Ang Cent] into fourth.

Terry Edwards [Swan Elite] beat a trio of Willows Pool weights to take the main prize on Wednesday from peg 48 on the Sycamore. Carp to 5lbs and barbel to 4lbs homed in on maggot and pellet feed, worked close in and at 12 metres, and when the scales arrived Terry had 75-3-0 to hand over.

Phil Shaw [PI Boldings] had a similar mix of fish, of a similar size to those of the winner, in his runner up 66-6-0, at Willows peg 5. Steve Forest was in the list again, filling third this time thanks to 52-6-0 from Willows 7. Just behind Steve, on 51-3-0 was Paul Gregory [Swan Elite].

Paul Davies [Willenhall] stepped up to the prize table to collect the winner's purse on Thursday after his Larch Pool best of 60-7-0 proved too good for the rest. Drawn on peg 16, Paul presented his maggot bait at 14 metres, alternated with close in to the side to pick off carp in the 5lbs range.

The remaining frame weights came from the Oak Pool, where Steve Owen got in on the act again, with his 12 metre and close tactics with maggot working to the tune of 40-5-0 at peg 22 to add a second to his Monday win. Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] was only 6 ounces behind on 39-15-0 at peg 27, and just 3 ounces behind him was Tony Woolaston       [Fatty's]with 39-12-0 at peg 11.

With two frame placings already to his name, Steve Forest saved his best for the week-end, walking off with the Saturday spoils by posting top weight of the week on a day of biting winds. Working maggot under a waggler at half depth from peg 16 on the Willows, he contacted carp to 6lbs together with barbel to 3lbs to make an impressive 104-15-0 haul.

One of the ton up boys from last week, Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] finished in second by recording the best weight of the day on Sycamore, 80-8-0 at peg 49. Clive caught on maggot and pellet, offered at 5 metres and 12 metres, and his catch featured carp to 7lbs with barbel to 4lbs. Gary Gollins [Swan Elite] made it three different pools in the top three places when his 74-7-0 from Larch peg 4 pipped the 73-3-0 by Dave Doughty [Woodend] at Sycamore peg 4.

Dave Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] made the Willows a winner again on Sunday using a maggot feeder approach at peg 13. His tactic got a response from carp to 6lbs and barbel to 4lbs which gave a final return of 84-1-0.

Jamie Langford [PI Bold] had carp and barbel on punched bread, fished on waggler gear to finish a close second with 80-14-0 at Willows 16. Third came from the Sycamore when Dave Brown [Maver] recorded a pool best of 70-4-0 at peg 8, and fourth also came from the Sycamore as corner peg 50 returned 53-8-0 for Les Thompson [Matrix].
