Boldings report    2-8-17.

Dave Doughty [PI Boldings] was in a class of his own at Boldings Pools on Wednesday and ended the day with double the weight of anyone else. Dave drew peg 21 on the Chestnut Pool and had the carp and bream feeding well on corn in the margins. Samples to 7lbs and 3lbs added up to 133-10-0 when the scales arrived.                                                                                                                 Graham Lewis [Dawley] combined pellet and corn to fish at 4 metres and down the side at peg 30, but couldn't get the fish going like the winner, and finished with 65-3-0 in second. Over on peg 10 Tony Foster [PI Bold] picked up third by scaling 51-10-0 and opposite him Ralph Johnson [PI Bold] completed the frame with 43-12-0.

Things were more even on Thursday, although match winner Paul Evans [PI Bold] did give himself  a 14lb buffer between him and a close battle for the rest of the places.                                                                                                                                        Paul was on Sycamore peg 48, where caster, down the shelf attracted carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs, which added up to 139-4-0.

Matt Edgerton [Oakengates Ang Cent] went for a pellet approach at point peg 13, working the bait to each side to pick off carp to 8lbs and barbel to 4lbs to scrape in front of Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] who was on the point, peg 8. Matt finished on 125-7-0, and Colin on a level 125-0-0. Fourth went to an Oak Pool best of 120-7-0 from Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] at peg 22.

Colin Reynolds moved to the top of the list on Saturday, when he drew the same peg which gave him third in the week, Sycamore 8. The pool was in a much more subdued mood for this match and Colin needed less than half his mid week weight to win. Pellet at 4 metres and in the sides put 60-13-0 on the scales for the victory.

Les Thompson [Matrix] worked pellet at 12 metres and close in at peg 18 to net a runner up 54-11-0 of carp to 5lbs. Steve Owen [Monkhall] was a fish behind with his 5213-0 at peg 44. Mick Foan [Rod & Gun] finished things off by scaling 40-5-0 at peg 42.

Eric Bancroft followed the example of Colin Reynolds to convert his mid week fourth to a Sunday first, and he did it with the best weight of the week, 181-11-0. Fishing paste to each side of Chestnut peg 21 saw Eric netting carp and bream, with fish to 8lbs and 3lbs making up the catch.

Jack O'Sullivan [O'gates Ang Cent] included carp, barbel and bream in his pellet based runner up 136-0-0 at peg 26. Up at peg 4 91-11-0 gave third to Adam Jones [Willenhall] with Kelvin Emlyn [O'gates Ang Cent] fourth at peg 32 where he weighed 86-11-0.

Les Thompson [Matrix] scored the first of two victories for the week when he topped the Wednesday card from Beech peg 32. Carp to 7lbs made up a net of 87-7-0, which Les attracted with pellet, fished at 8 metres.

The next three weights all came from the Ash Pool, where Andy Williams [Vespe] led the way. He was on peg 18 and combined corn and pellet at 6 metres and on the inside line to record 75-3-0.           Carp to 7lbs and barbel to 2lbs put in an appearance at peg 6 on the Larch, where Matt was pegged, and he snapped up 118-12-0 of them using pellet at 5 metres.

Across at peg 24 Steve Roberts fed maggot and pellet down each side of the peg to find carp to 8lbs together with bream and barbel to 3lbs, and one more of any of the three species would have changed the result  as Steve finished with 115-15-0. Less than 3lbs behind second was Kel Emlyn on 113-4-0 at Larch peg 16, while a Sycamore Pool best of 97-6-0 gave fourth to Gareth Emlyn.

The bank Holiday honours at Boldings Pools went to Jamie Langford [Preston Inno Boldings] by courtesy of 104-3-0 from peg 30 on the Sycamore Pool.  Pellet and maggot alternated between the 8 metre line and in the margins resulted in a net of carp to 7lbs, together with barbel and bream to 3lbs.

Maggot and corn was the bait combo selected by Andy Williams [Vespe] to fish at 5 metres as well as close in at Sycamore 16. His tactics resulted in a bag of carp to 7lbs which gave a total of 89-15-0and second spot.  Dave Pritchard [PI Bold] claimed third by scaling 81-7-0 at peg 21, leaving Harry Colley [PI Bold]to take home fourth thanks to 74-5-0 from peg 13.

It was on the Wednesday open that Dave Brown [Maver] set the best standard of the week, and he did it from the Ash Pool, which hit form again after playing second fiddle to the Beech recently. Dave drew peg 3, which he tackled with maggot, fished shallow, and down the side to make a terrific haul of carp to 6lbs totaling 167-14-0.

Further along the same bank, Dave Doughty  [Wood End] operated with pellet and corn to net 100-12-0 of carp to 7lbs which made him the runner up. Third man Stuart Aston [Swan] was top of the Beech card with 85-13-0 at peg 7, while back on the Ash Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] had 80-50 at peg 23.

Switching between 5 metres and 8 metres with pellet, maggot and corn at Willows peg 5 kept Matt Edgerton [Oakengates Angling Centre] one step ahead of the opposition on Thursday, by putting 107-15-0 of carp to 7lbs and barbel to 5lbs on the scales.

3 of 4

Sycamore peg 21 came up with a winner for Ian Kull [Chestnut AC] on Saturday, responding to his close in corn approach to give a return of 131-7-0 of carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs.

Jack O'Sullivan [Oak Ang Cent] was three pegs away at peg 24, and worked with maggot and corn which he offered at 5 metres and in the margins to bag 97-5-0 of carp to 7lbs. Morgan Davidson made the list again, his Chestnut best of 89-2-0 giving him third. Sycamore 13 gave fourth again, this time for Joe Brennan [PI Bold] who recorded 72-12-0 at the peg.

Gareth Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] made Hawthorn peg 1 a winner on Sunday when his 90-2-0 from the peg outshone the weights on the Sycamore. Working along the sides with maggot put Gareth in touch with carp to 7lbs on his way to victory.

Steve Roberts [Oak Ang Cent] used the same maggot tactics at Sycamore 21 to tempt carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs, which made up a total of 84-10-0, which fended off Graham Roberts [PI Bold] who had a level 83-0-0 at Sycamore 27.           The Monday open on the Willows Pool at Boldings Pools produced a close battle for first place between Phil Shaw [PI Boldings] and Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun].

Both caught carp and barbel, and while Eric had a better stamp of fish, it was quantity not quality which prevailed, with carp to 6lbs and barbel to 4lbs, all caught on shallow caster, which gave Phil a return of 114-11-0 at peg 5.

Eric had his fish, carp to 7lbs and barbel to 5lbs, on maggot in the margins at peg 13, but fell one fish short with 112-12-0 at the whistle. Bewdley rod Paul Evans was next to winner on peg 4, where 101-14-0 put him into third, just ahead of Graham Roberts [PI Bold] who had 99-8-0 at peg 8.

The Beech Pool outshone the Ash on Wednesday to give the top two places, and again there wasn't a lot between first and second.

Darren Warden [PI Bold] put his name on the main prize by scaling 84-5-0 at Beech peg 5 to fend off Mick Perry [PI Bold] who weighed in 79-7-0 at Beech 20 to collect second.           Jason Atwell [Kingswinford] established the biggest winning margin of the week when he took the laurels on Saturday from peg 39 on the Chestnut. Maggot, presented at 5 metres brought carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs onto the feed to give Jason figures of 91-14-0 and an advantage of just under 22lbs over the rest.

Peg 13 on the Sycamore came up with second place again, this time for Joe Brennan [PI Bold] who also caught carp and bream on maggot, which he worked at 4 metres. Samples to 6lbs and 2lbs respectively added up to 70-2-0 for Joe. Round at Sycamore 16 Keith Powell [PI Bold] filled third with 59-1-0 and 45-11-0 from Chestnut 21 put Morgan Davidson [Monkhall] into fourth.
