Boldings Report 23/2/09

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) closed the week at Boldings Pools last week with a win from the Oak Pool. This week he began proceedings with another win, from the same pool. Having drawn a corner peg last week, this time Eric drew point peg 29, and not only won the match, but had the top catch of the week, 67-11-0. Pellet was the bait this time, which was offered at 8 metres and close, for carp to 4lbs.

Stuart Aston (Swan Jacks) fished pellet and corn to the paddles at peg 1 on the Hawthorn to net second place with 50-10-0, which was made up with carp to 3lbs.

Back on the Oak, Darren Painter (Baggeridge) put 36-10-0 on the scales at peg 22 for third, and Dave Barnard (R&G) just grabbed 4th by 2 ounces with 32-3-0 at Hawthorn peg 5.

Thursday gave a tight frame when John Wild (Stafford) was the only angler pegged on the Chestnut Pool to make the frame. He topped the days card from peg 21 on the pool with a catch of small carp, from 8ounces to 2lbs, which he took fishing pellet and maggot to the island, finishing with 36-9-0.

Richard Lawson (Maver) offered corn at 13 metres and close in at Peg 25 on the Sycamore, to find carp to 6lbs on his way to 34-8-0 and second place. On the opposite bank Harry Colley (OB Wolves) put together 33-11-0 for third, with Neil Cottrell (Swan Jacks) having a Larch Pool best of 31-8-0 for 4th.

Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) claimed the coin on Saturday when he beat a trio of weights from the Oak Pool with a Sycamore best of 41-6-0. Colin fished down the side at Sycamore 16, and had all small carp in his winning net.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had the bets of the Oak catches, 29-7-0, taken on pellet at 5 metres at peg 8. Steve Hall (Oswestry) just squeezed into third when he scaled 23-7-0 at Oak 29, with Graham Roberts (OBW) just behind on 23-4-0 at Oak 21.

Dave Hailey (OBW) made the move up from third last Sunday to first this, and it was Oak 29 which proved the winning peg again. Pellet worked again, to take fish at 6 metres and close in, for a final tally of 48-7-0.

The Ash Pool featured for the first time, giving Graham Evason (OBW) a return of 43-9-0 in response to his pellet and corn at 10 metres approach at peg 16. Third man Gary Morris OBW) had 39-5-0 from Oak peg 5 and Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) scaled 36-5-0 at Oak 21 for 4th.

Boldings Report 18/2/09

Weights were down on a frost affected Wednesday open at Boldings Pools and Richard Lawson (Maver) was able to win with 18-13-0. He was on Larch peg 5 and fished to the weed bed with a straight lead rig to take carp in the 1lb to 3lb bracket.

Fish of the same size made up the 16-1-0 which gave Jeff Harston (Weston Pools second place. Jeff had his fish on maggot, fished to the stumps at peg 11 on the Stock Pool. Third and fourth also came from the Stock when Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) weighed 15-9-0 at peg 3 to pip Pete Plant (Maver) on 15-7-0 at peg 7.

Ken Humphries (Morgans Oswestry) landed the best catch of the week at Boldings despite the frost on Thursday. Ken offered maggot into the corner and to the far bank at Middle Pool peg 5, and netted carp to 5lbs on his way to 48-7-0.

Darren Painter  (Baggeridge) couldn’t match the winner with his Ash Pool best and finished 30lbs short on 18-8-0 at peg 8. Ian Hodson (Swan Jacks) topped the Beech card with 11-9-0 from peg 20 for third, with Simon Osbourne (Maver) one ounce behind him on 11-8-0 at Ash peg 6.

Paul Edwards (Dorset Pools) fished a straight lead to the far bank from Sycamore peg 8, baiting his hook with red maggot to tempt carp to 5lbs, which helped him to a narrow victory. At the whistle, he had 26-14-0 in the net, which held off John Francis (Rod & Gun) who had a level 26-0-0. John’s catch topped the list on the Willows Pool, and came to corn, fished at 10 metres at peg 5.

Keith Powell (Wolverhampton) put 24-6-0 on the scales at Sycamore 33 for third and Gary Morris (OB Wolves) had 22-8-0 at Sycamore 16 to take 4th.

Eric Bancroft (R&G) was on the end of the dam wall at peg 1 on the Oak Pool on Sunday where maggot, fished in the side saw him ease ahead of fellow Rod & Gun man Dave Barnard. Eric included carp to 5lbs in a winning net of 33-3-0. Dave was on the peg which produced the runner up the day before, number 5 on the Willows. He offered pellet at 8 metres and had carp to 3lbs in a 21-10-0 total.

Oak pegs completed the frame, with Dave Hailey (OBW) filling third with 20-14-0 at peg 13 and Rob Gratton (Wolves) having 19-0-0 for 4th at peg 18.

Boldings Report 11/2/09

The weather restricted the match programme at Boldings Pools to the week-end only, and the Saturday match was a close run thing. Mid week winner from last week Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) snatched victory by 8 ounces when he scaled 20-13-0 at corner peg 8 on the Middle Pool. Maggot fished at 7 metres attracted carp in the 1lb to 3lb bracket for Mick, and fish of similar size made up the runner up catch weighed in by Pete Tolley (OB Wolves). Pete was on ‘stumps’ peg 11 on the Stock Pool, and fished corn at 13 metres for his 20-5-0.

Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) and Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) shared third when they each scaled 10-4-0. Colin was on peg 1 on the Hawthorn and Dave took his catch at Stock peg 2.

Nige Clarke (Fox Match) made Stock peg 7 a winner on Sunday, netting 30-2-0 of carp to 4lbs while fishing corn at 10 metres. Kevin Melville (Dorset AC) went out to 14 metres to offer maggot at peg 16 on the Beech, and found carp to 5 lbs on his way to a second best 26-3-0. Just behind Kev was Dave Painter (Wolves) with 25-12-0 at Stock peg 4 and Fitzroy Davies (OB Wolves) had an Ash Pool best of 19-4-0 to finish 4th.

Boldings report

Boldings Report 4/2/09

With the threat of snow in the air the Saturday open at Boldings surprisingly gave the top catch of the week at the complex, with point peg 7 on the Beech Pool featuring, and Dave Brown (Maver) making it three Saturday wins on the trot. Dave fished at 3 metres and 6 metres with maggot and corn, and had a total of 53-8-0, made up with carp to 6lbs.

Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver) was a distant second with 21-7-0 from peg 14 on the Ash Pool. He had carp to 3lbs, with skimmers, taken on maggot and pellet at 10 metres. Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Angling Centre) continued his run of form with a third placed 18-6-0 from Ash 18, and Stuart Aston (swan Jacks) put together a Hawthorn best of 17-9-0 for 4th.

Dave White flew the Maver flag on Sunday weighing in 39-5-0 as the snow arrived. Fishing pellet and maggot to the paddles at peg 1 on the Middle Pool resulted in carp to 3lbs ending up in Dave’s net to give a 39-5-0 winner.

Chris Holmes (Bridgnorth AS) fished to the stump with maggot at Stock peg 11, and had better fish than the winner, with samples to 4lbs, but there were not enough of them, leaving Chris second on 28-6-0. Dave Brown was in the frame again, his Hawthorn best of 22-13-0 giving him third spot ahead of Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) on 20-0-0 at Middle peg 8.

Mick Jameson had been a winner in mid-week, taking top honours on Wednesday. Sycamore peg 7 provided Mick with his win, when carp to 3lbs on maggot at 6 metres and 10 metres added up to 27-14-0.

Middle peg 1 featured again, giving John Wild (Stafford) second place. John included roach and rudd, with carp to 3lbs in his 24-6-0. Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) scaled 21-8-0 at Sycamore for third and R Gratton (Ind) had a level 19-0-0 at Middle 8 for 4th.

The Larch Pool came up with top weight on Thursday when Steve Hall (Oct Boldings) netted 42-7-0 at peg 17. Maggot, in the Margins and at 10 metres worked for Steve, bringing carp to 4lbs to the net.

Matt Stockton (Ind) fished maggot and corn to the island from peg 11 on the Hawthorn for fish to 3lbs, which gave a return of 39-12-0 for second. Jack Hailey (Oakengates Ang Cent) had top weight on the Beech, 34-5-0 for third overall, and just behind him on 33-14-0, also from the Beech, was Ian Hodson (Ind).
