Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  29-5-13.

Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] started a successful week at Boldings Pools with a win on the Monday affordable open on the Oak Pool, after he drew point peg 29. Fishing shallow pellet, alternated with a close in approach, put Eric in touch with carp to 6lbs, resulting in a 90-14-0 total.

At peg 31 Keith Powell [PI Boldings] had all his fish on the close in line using maggot, and included carp to 8lbs in a runner up 74-6-0. Over on the end of the dam, Brad Parkes [Chase Angling] scaled 70-4-0 in third, leaving Mick Jameson [PI Bold] on 66-11-0 at peg 27 to pick up 4th.

Weights on Wednesday defied the cold conditions and 100lbs was only good enough for third. Top catch came from the Larch Pool and fell to Colin Wozek [Matrix Total Angling] at peg 16. Shallow pellet had the fish feeding well and Colin put together 149-10-0, made up with carp to 7lbs.

Not far behind the winner, with the best of three catches from the Chestnut, was Ian Hughes [Drennan NW] at peg 28. He also operated with shallow pellet, and had carp to 7lbs, mixed with bream to 2lbs, to finish on an even 144-0-0.

At peg 30 Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] netted 100-10-0 to finish third, ahead of Keith Miller [New Willenhall] on 94-7-0 at peg 21.

Ken Humphries [Oswestry] had the first of two wins when he took the honours on a cold and windy Thursday on the Sycamore. Fishing pellet, corn and maggot to each side of the point on peg 13, Ken found carp to 8lbs and barbel to 3lbs on his way 90-5-0.

Shallow pellet worked for Clive Wright [Mosella] at peg 48, yielding 80-10-0 of carp to 7lbs for second. Eric Bancroft had the second of his three pick ups when he scaled 77-7-0 at peg 8, and just behind him was another Rod & Gun man, Dave Barnard on 75-12-0 at peg 39.

Peg 13 proved to be anything but unlucky again for Ken Humphries on Saturday when he drew 13 on the Oak Pool, and won again, this time in warm and sunny conditions. His weight differed by only 6 ounces, and it was carp and barbel that made up his catch again, with samples to 5lbs and 2lbs, respectively giving a final score of 89-15-0.

Harry Colley [PI Bold] offered pellet and meat close in at Oak peg 8, and he too had carp and barbel in his second placed 84-10-0. At Larch peg 1 Mitch Davidson [MTA] weighed in 82-9-0 for third and back on the Oak Mark Taylor [Shakespeare] had 78-8-0 in 4th.

Harry Colley moved up from second to first place in style on Sunday when his pellet and meat combination put more carp and barbel in his net, with fish to 9lbs and 3lbs coming from peg 21 on the Sycamore. Switching between the 5 metre line, and close in kept Harry in touch with the fish, to give a return of 148-2-0.

On the Larch, at peg 22, close in maggot tactics handed second to Kelvin Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] with a weight of 137-5-0. Mitch Davidson drew Larch 1 again and finished third again, this time with 135-1-0, and a Chestnut best of 122-0-0 gave Phil Taylor [Dan & Locks] 4th.

Much cooler conditions for the Bank Holiday Monday match on the Chestnut  brought the weights down, but gave a close finish, with less than three pound between first and third. Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] edged two pounds clear at Chestnut 37 with a pellet and corn based mix of carp and bream for 89-8-0.

Similar tactics at peg 1 were used by Ed Turner [PI Bold] who finished one fish short of the winner on 87-6-0. Morgan Davidson [Colmic] had 86-13-0 from peg 35 and Eric Bancroft rounded off his week with a fourth by scaling 81-6-0 at peg 18.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  21-5-13.

The first two matches of the week at Boldings Pools gave very similar frame weights, with 93-11-0 off the Oak winning on Monday and 92-1-0 from the Ash taking the coin on Wednesday.

Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] collected the winners purse on Monday after he drew peg 1 on the Oak, which he tackled by fishing across to the far bank with pellet, to pick off carp to 6lbs.

At Beech peg 9 Phil Shaw [Lower Hill] offered pellet, shallow in open water, as well as close in to the bank to find carp to 5lbs for a total of 85-9-0.

Last Sundays winner Colin Wozek [Matrix Total Angling] had an Ash best of 82-5-0 to finish third overall, with Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] 4th on 77-3-0 at Beech 23.

Ash peg 14 provided Harry Colley [PI Boldings] with 92-1-0 for victory on Wednesday, with carp to 9lbs homing in on his meat and pellet in the margins.

Pellet and maggot, fished to each side of Ash peg 6 returned 84-4-0 of carp to 7lbs for runner up Ken Humphries [Oswestry] putting him 10lbs clear of third man Mick Jameson [PI Bold] who took his 74-13-0 from Beech peg 7. Last Wednesdays winner Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] picked 4th this time, by scaling 71-4-0 at Ash 9.

The first ton of the week came from Brian Clark [Colmic Marukyu] who fished down the side and into the corner at peg 4 on the Sycamore. A mix of carp to 8lbs and barbel to 3lbs homed in on his maggot offerings, to give a final tally of 113-3-0.

Keith Powell [PI Bold] fished maggot to the island and down the side at Chestnut peg 26, where carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs added up to 91-8-0. Close behind Keith was Carl Foster [PI Bold] on 89-0-0 at Chestnut 18, and at Chestnut 15 Gary Morris [PI Bold] scaled 76-4-0 in 4th.

The big ‘Maver Match This’ qualifier on Saturday resulted in a clear win for Andy Power [PI Thatcher’s] who had a busy day with F1 carp in the 1lb to 3lb range. Working shallow pellet at peg 28 on the Chestnut kept a constant flow of fish coming to the net to give Andy a return of 130-10-0 for a £300 pay out.

Michael Elliot [Matrix Trentmen] also had mainly F1s, plus four carp to 6lbs , fishing caster at peg 32 on the Beech, but he was 40lbs short of the winner on 90-7-0 at the finish. He picked up the second prize of £200. Andy Kyte [Maver Sonubaits] claimed the £140 third prize by weighing 88-15-0 at Chestnut peg 21, and at Chestnut 23 Mark Taylor [Shakespeare] had 84-8-0 for 4th.

Another good turn-out for the Sunday open produced an impressive frame. With the top four averaging over 122lbs each. Top man was Jason Elwell [Phil’s Tackle] who won from the Willows Pool. Drawn on peg 8 Jason alternated pellet at 5 metres with maggot down the side to target carp to 7lbs and barbel to 3lbs, a steady supply of which gave a total of 142-5-0 at the finish.

The next three weights all came from the Larch Pool where Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] topped the card with 118-13-0 at peg 26. Less than two pound behind Andy, on 116-15-0 at peg 4, was Colin Reynolds with his second frame appearance of the week. Finishing off the big list with 112-5-0 at peg 19 was Les Thompson [Matrix].
