Boldings Report 26/5/09

Ed Turner (OB Wolves) had the top weight of the week at Boldings Pools as the warmer weather arrived at the week-end. He was pegged on the point at peg 8 on the Sycamore, and alternated fishing shallow pellet at 12 metres with close in tactics. Carp to 9lbs responded , to give Ed figures of 121-7-0 for a clear victory.

Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) was top man on the Chestnut Pool to take second overall with a maggot catch of carp for 84-10-0 at peg 18. Two New Willenhall rods completed the frame, with Keith Miller third on 72-3-0 at Sycamore 16 and Pete Ricketts putting an Oak Pool best of 66-2-0 on the scales at peg 13.

Colin Wozak (Donnington) was the winner of the Monday Affordable open on the Oak Pool, finishing ahead of Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) and Steve Forest (OB Wolves). Wozak was on peg 8 and fished in the side with pellet to net 49-9-0 of carp to 5lbs. Reynolds was opposite the island at peg 18 and had 38-0-0 on corn and pellet, and Forest was in between the two Colins at peg 16 where he scaled 36-5-0.

Pellet fished to the paddles, and close in at peg 1 on the Hawthorn on Wednesday took Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) to first place. He included carp to 6lbs in a 55-14-0 winning net. Ralph Johnson (Bilston) improved on his third spot last Wednesday to finish second this time. He fished caster to the opposite bank from peg 1 on the Stock Pool for 50-8-0.

Third went to Eddie Edwards (Wolverhampton) on 48-4-0 at hawthorn 9 and Chris Holmes (BAS) completed a fairly tight top four with 46-4-0 at Hawthorn 3.

Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) took over the winners mantle on Thursday, winning from peg 13 on the Sycamore by fishing pellet to each side of the point for 74-12-0 of carp to 8lbs. Runner up Ian Hodson (Swan JT) offered pellet, up in the water at 12 metres at Sycamore 16 to net 69-2-0. Eric Bancroft (R&G) was round at corner peg 6 on the Sycamore and had 51-0-0 for third, with John wild (Stafford) a pound behind him with a Chestnut best of 50-0-0.

Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) marked his new sponsorship deal with Sonubaits with a win on Saturday. Fishing out at 14 metres with shallow pellet, he picked off a lot of small carp in 1lb to 3lb range to establish an advantage of over 11 lbs by scaling 73-7-0.

Tony Foster had bigger fish at Sycamore peg 18, with carp to 6lbs on corn and pellet, fished in the side. He couldn’t find enough of them though, and had to settle for second with 62-1-0. Howard Robinson (OBW) had 60-5-0 at Sycamore 48 for third, and Harry Colley (OBW) completed an unusual week when no one made the frame more than once, with 52-0-0 for 4th.

Boldings Report 19/5/09

SPORTS DESK 19/5/09

With weather conditions this week more akin to March than May, it was small wonder that there were some fluctuations in match weights at many of the local fisheries, although generally, you would have to say that sport was good for the sort of temperatures that anglers had to endure.

The Monday match gave the best winning catch at Boldings Pools when Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) converted some recent secondary frame placings into an emphatic win. He drew peg 1 on the Middle Pool and put together the only ton up catch of the week by fishing pellet to each side of the corner peg to net 107-8-0, with carp to 8lbs making up the weight.

The remaining frame places were hotly contested, with Kevin Melville (Dorset Pools) leading the charge for second. He was on peg 3 on the Stock Pool and fished pellet at 5 metres and close in for carp to 5lbs to total 70-15-0. One fish behind Kev was Michael Payne (Notts) on 67-3-0 at Middle peg 3, Carl Foster (OB Wolves) was less than two pounds behind him on 65-8-0 at Middle 4 and Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) was less than one pound behind Carl with a Hawthorn best of 64-9-0.

Ash pegs filed the frame on Wednesday when Ian Hughes (Shimano Wales) topped the card. Shallow caster, fished at 12 metres attracted mostly small carp, up to 4lbs at 3 to give Ian a return of 69-4-0, which put him 11lbs clear of Stuart Aston (Swan JT) at peg 18.

His 58-1-0 included carp to 6lbs and fell to pellet fished at 5 metres, and close in. In third was Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) on 45-2-0 at peg 14 and Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) completed the line up with 43-3-0 at peg 7.

John Wild (Stafford) found carp to 8lbs at corner peg 4 on the Sycamore on Thursday to provide him with a 71-11-0 winner. He offered pellet at 5 metres and in the side, to edge ahead of Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) at peg 47 on the same pool. Dave operated with similar tactics to the winner to find carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs to end on 66-15-0.

Third went to an Oak Pool best of 59-14-0 from Mick Jameson (mid Leisure) at peg 23, and 4th also came from the Oak when Ted Ecclestone (Stafford) scaled 54-11-0 at peg 27.

Mick Jameson moved up to the head of the frame on Saturday, leading the way from peg 30 on the Chestnut Pool. Alternating between 6 metres, and close in, with pellet, Mick picked off carp to 8lbs on his way to a level 59-0-0.

Over on Willows peg 15 Colin Reynolds(Bilston Ang Cent) switched between the 9 metre and 5 metre lines with pellet to make contact with carp to 5lbs, but couldn’t match the winners catch rate and finished on 41-14-0. Dave Barnard was in the frame again, third this time on 39-10-0 at Chestnut 35, and Thursdays winner John Wild had 38-3-0 at Chestnut 11 for 4th.

Sycamore peg 4 produced its second winner of the week when Steve Roberts (R&G) drew it on Sunday. He fished corn and pellet to hook carp to 8lbs, some on the 7 metre line and some from the corner, to total 70-2-0.

Gary Morris (OBW) also fished corn and pellet to net an Oak Pool best of 54-10-0 to finish ahead of a tie for third between Tim Probert (OBW) and Scott Doodson (R&G). They each had a level 51-0-0, Tim from Larch 24 and Scott from Oak 22.

Boldings report

Boldings Report 12/5/09

Andy Amos (Shimano) made the frame three times at Boldings Pools this week with a full set of top three placings.

Sean Barber (Maver) started the week with a win on the Monday Affordable open, staged on the Sycamore and Oak pools. Sean drew point peg 13 on the Sycamore, which hasn’t shown much form so far this year, but he put together a 70-9-0 winner, using shallow caster tactics to net carp to 7lbs.

Second came from the Oak, where dave Matson (Rod & Gun) used corn and maggot, close in at peg 24 for 65-4-0. Andy Amos started his week with a third place by scaling 55-13-0 at peg 50 on the Sycamore, and back on the Oak, Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was a close 4th when he put 55-4-0 on the scales at peg 3.

Hawthorn peg 3 gave the first of two winning catches for the week on Wednesday, when Stuart Aston (Swan JT) offered pellet and paste at 8 metres for 64-13-0, made up with carp to 7lbs.

In the corner at peg 1 Mick Keene (MS Total Angling) worked with similar tactics to the winner to finish second on 60-11-0, with carp to 5lbs making up his catch.

Alan Weston (Chuckery) had the best catch from the Middle Pool, 51-9-0 form corner peg 11, to take third, and in 4th was Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) on 50-7-0 at hawthorn 15.

On Thursday Andy Amos made the step up to first place after drawing peg 33 on the Sycamore. He found carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs using pellet, fished shallow in open water, alternated with close in tactics. When the end of the match came Andy had 77-12-0 in the net, enough to hold off Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes).

Bob was Sycamore 42 and fished corn and pellet at 5 metres, and into the corner for 70-2-0. Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) led the catches on the Chestnut to finish third on 64-12-0 at peg 32,and back on the Sycamore, Ian Hughes (Shimano Wales) had 51-12-0 for 4th.

Top weight of the week at Boldings came on Saturday when Hawthorn peg 3 featured again at the top of the results list. Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) switched between shallow fished pellet and corn, close in to keep fish coming to the net, and built a 90-12-0 total with carp to 7lbs.

Andy Amos completed his full set with a second placed 73-9-0, which was a beech best, and fell to pellet at 12 metres on peg 3. Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver) was best man on the Ash, and third overall with 66-11-0 from peg 18, and Mick Jameson was in the frame again when he scaled 66-1-0 at beech 7.

Peg 16 on the Oak proved best for Gary Morris (OB Wolves) on Sunday when carp to 7lbs moved in on his close fished corn and pellet to give a return of 75-8-0.

Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) used maggot in the side at peg 28 on the Sycamore to tempt carp to 8lbs, but needed one more to win when the scales stopped at 68-5-0, leaving him to collect second. Following Gareth was Colin Reynolds, who added a third to his mid-week 4th when he put 61-8-0 in the net at Sycamore 13. Fourth went to a Chestnut best of 61-5-0 by John wild (Stafford).

Boldings Pools are running a Junior Browning Masters open this Saturday, draw at 9.30 am. Entrants must be under 16 on July 31st, entry is £12, all competitors will receive Browning prizes.

Boldings report

Boldings Report 6/5/09

Harry Colley (OB Wolves) made it two ton up wins in succession by notching up another victory at the latest Monday Affordable open.

Last week he won from the Chestnut with 113-9-0, this week, he had precisely a pound more from the beech Pool. Harry used corn, pellet and meat to tempt carp to 9lbs, fishing close in at peg 20, to end the day on 114-9-0.

Colley's win was no pushover though, as he had Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) chasing hard all the way at peg 14 on the Ash. Steve was catching smaller carp, with fish from 1lb to 5lbs coming to his corn and pellet, offered at 5metres. In the end, the bigger fish made a difference of 10lbs, with Steve seeing the scales settle at 104-6-0.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) had a level 71-0-0 for third at Ash 9 and Godfrey Wood (Oswestry) put a level 61-0-0 on the scales at Beech 7 for 4th.

Catch rates were down on Wednesday, but it still took over 50lbs to win, and two different pools gave the top two weights again, with Rod & Gun men filling first and second places.

Dave Barnard picked up the main prize thanks to a Sycamore best of 54-9-0, which came from peg 40. Hard on his heels was Scott Doodson, who led three frame weights from the Chestnut with 51-0-0 from peg 5 to take second.

Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) scaled 46-10-0 at peg 16 to pip Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) to third, with Mick netting 44-6-0 at peg 11.

Weights started climbing again on Thursday when it was a peg on the Chestnut which produced the winner, ahead of the Sycamore. Brian Clarke (Maver Midlands) pulled Chestnut 30 from the bag, and put pellet to work at 12 metres to find carp to 7lbs, and put together a net of 85-13-0 to win.

Over at Sycamore peg 4, Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) also worked pellet, to catch carp to 6lbs on the 5 metre line, finishing with 69-10-0 for second.

An Oak best of 65-11-0 from peg 22 gave Andy Amos (Shimano) third, and 4th also came from the Oak when Tony Foster scaled 52-12-0  at peg 29.

Maver rods filled the top three places on Saturday when the Hawthorn Pool came up with the best weight of the week, after Dave Brown drew corner peg 1. His shallow caster approach soon had the carp feeding, with fish from 1lb to 7lbs coming to the net regularly throughout, giving dave a return of 125-4-0.

Andy Bayliss-Kyte also drew a corner peg when he pulled number 11 on the Middle Pool from the draw bag. Andy fished pellet and paste down the edge to include carp to 8lbs in a 109-13-0 net, which gave him second.

Back on the hawthorn, Sean Barber completed the Maver line up with 89-10-0 for third at peg 5, with Carl Foster (OB Wolves) 10lbs behind on 79-9-0 at Middle peg 3.
