Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 29/6/10.

Four out of five matches at Boldings Pools needed over 100lbs to win, and the top weight of the week was over 167lbs.

That came on the Tuesday open when Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) stormed to victory at peg 5 on the Ash Pool, hammering out 167-12-0 of carp to 8lbs. Shallow fished pellet was telling method for Pete.

Pete Moss (Telford) was on the end of the Ash at peg 23 where corn and pellet close in put 88-6-0 in the net, which put him into second place, ahead of Tony Foster (OB Wolves) who had the top weight on the Beech Pool, 83-13-0.

Malcolm Ginty (OB Wolves) recorded his first Boldings win on Monday, leading a trio of ‘tons’ with 116-13-0 from peg 5 on the Hawthorn. Pellet at 5metres and close in tempted carp to 9lbs to help Malc to his victory.

Carl Foster (OBW) offered pellet and corn to the island, and close in at corner peg 7, and found carp to 8lbs to make up a total of 110-11-0 for second. Another corner peg, number 1, gave Eric Bancroft a return of 101-15-0 for third.

Clive Wynn (Weston Pools) made the trip down from Oswestry worthwhile on Thursday by heading a tight frame. He put together 91-6-0 at Sycamore 25 with pellet fed carp to 9lbs. John wild (Stafford) fished pellet to each side of the point at peg 13 to finish a close second on 88-11-0. Another Weston Pools rod, Mike Philbin, picked up third thanks to 82-12-0 at sycamore 22, and Tony Foster had another pool best with 81-10-0 from Chestnut 14.

Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) took on the winners mantle on Saturday, alternating fishing shallow in open water and tight into the side, with pellet at peg 1 on the Hawthorn. Carp to 8 lbs obliged to give figures of 114-9-0.

Alan Jones (Deggys) worked with shallow pellet and corn in the margins at peg 7 on the Stock Pool to finish second on 89-7-0, less than 2lbs clear of Alan Naylor (OAC/Ants Bait). He was on Stock 11 and put 87-9-0 on the scales for third, with Simon Jukes (OBW) 4th on 82-13-0 at hawthorn 3.

As well as top weight of the week, Pete Ricketts also had second best weight when he won on Sunday with 137-12-0. This time he was on the Chestnut Pool, at peg 21, and decided on a paste approach rather than shallow pellet, a move which paid off  with carp to 10lbs accepting the bait, to give a final tally of 137-12-0.

Keith Miller (New Willenhall) was round at peg 13 where he  caught in the corner and at 5metres on pellet to record 108-10-0 for second. In between the top two, Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) scaled 103-8-0 at peg 18 to claim third ahead of John Wild who framed again with an Oak best of 99-0-0.

BOLDINGS REPORT 23/6/10.

In a bonanza week at Boldings Pools, all of the opens were won with over 100lbs of fish, and a glorious week was topped off by the first double ton of the year.

That honour went to Dorset AC rod Martin Davenport who clattered the opposition with his 204-1-0 winner on the Saturday open. Pegged on the Sycamore Pool at number 24, Martin had an arm aching and unforgettable five hours, with carp to 10lbs and bream to 3lbs. queuing up for his pellet and corn, fished in the margins.

Runner up Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) although comprehensively beaten, had an excellent Beech Pool best of 121-7-0, fishing paste at 5 metres and corn close in at peg 20.

Andy Williams (Vespe) also had a ton from the Beech, finishing third with 103-11-0 at Beech 32, and Keith Powell (OB Wolves) completed an all ton top four with 102-6-0 from Sycamore 27.

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) improved on his second place on the Monday open last week, and added to his Thursday win when he started this week off with a 126-15-0 winner on Monday. Sycamore peg 8 was the scene of Erics victory, and he fished pellet close in at the point to net carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs.

Up at peg 48 Phil Shaw moved up a place on last week to take second this time, with pellet fished to each side of the peg putting 90-2-0 of carp and bream in his net. Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) had 84-14-0 from corner peg 4 to finish third and Steve Lawrence (OBW) was 4th with 73-3-0 from pg 24.

Ralph Johnson posted 117-12-0 on the Wednesday match to add a win to his Saturday second. He drew Stock Pool peg 7 and fished pellet at 4 metres, combined with corn in the side, for carp to 7lbs.

Mark Mountford (Shifnal) continued his form with a second on this match, prior to winning on Thursday. He used paste at peg 12 on the hawthorn Pool to pick off carp to 8lbs on his way to 108-12-0. Carl Foster (OBW) took 100-4-0 from Middle Pool peg 11 to make it a ton up top three, with his brother Phil  collecting fourth with 72-12-0 at Middle 8.

Thursday saw an all 100lb frame with Mark Mountford leading the way from Sycamore 36 with his paste approach, which produced carp to 9lbs from the 5 metre line, as well as close in, to give a return of 125-3-0.

Bream to 4lbs joined carp to 9lbs at peg 24 on the Sycamore to give Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) a level 107-0-0 for second, just one ounce ahead of a Chestnut best of 106-15-0 from John Wild (Stafford). A few ounces behind John was the top scorer of last week, Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) on 106-4-0 at Sycamore 42.

The pace slackened a little on Sunday but it still took 103-10-0 to ensure victory for Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent). He fished pellet up in the water, alternated with maggot in the margins to net carp to 8lbs at peg 31 on the Oak Pool.

Steve Roberts recorded another second with a mix of bream and carp from Sycamore 30, with carp to double figures and bream to 4lbs featuring in a total of 85-6-0. A Chestnut top weight of 82-7-0 put Scott Doodson (Maver Sonubaits) into third at peg 13, and fellow Maver Sonubaits rod Sean Barber a close 4th on 80-2-0 at Chestnut 38.

Both ends of the week produced bumper catches at Boldings Pools, with an all ton frame on the Monday and Sunday opens.

Martin Davenport (Dorset AC) started things off in fine style on Monday by heading a tight frame with 110-2-0 from peg 5 on the Ash. He had a busy time catching a lot of fish in the 2lb to 4lb bracket on pellet and paste, fished close in.

Less than 2lbs behind Martin was Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) who had all his fish, carp to 6lbs, on pellet at Ash 16, finishing with 108-3-0. Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) was less than 2lbs behind Eric on 106-12-0 at Ash 9, with Andy Buckley (Telford) maintaining the standard with 104-0-0 at Hawthorn peg 11.

Carl Foster (OB Wolves) had 12lbs to spare ahead of a scramble for the rest of the places on Wednesday when he netted 88-4-0 of carp to 6lbs on shallow pellet at Ash 3.

Howard Williams (Weston Pools) was top scorer on the Middle with 76-5-0, which gave him second overall, just in front of Paul Evans (Willis Worms). Paul had 75-7-0 at Ash 16, which was closely followed by 75-1-0 from Phil Shaw, who framed again with 75-1-0.

Carl foster added a second to his previous days win when he put 77-7-0 on the scales at Sycamore 22. Dave Barnard (R&G) picked up third with a Chestnut best of 76-9-0 at peg 8, and at Chestnut 36, Alan Jones (Deggys) had 70-15-0 for 4th.

Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) fished pellet, up in the water at peg 32 for 70-15-0 to claim second, Colin Reynolds (Bilston AC) was just behind Steve on 69-2-0 at peg 38 and Terry Slater (Baggeridge) had 55-13-0 in 4th at peg 4.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) had a couple of near misses last week, but made sure of top spot this week when he hauled in 153-0-0 from peg 23 on the Beech on Sunday, when carp to 8lbs took a definite liking to his paste bait, fished in the margins.

Pete Plant (Maver) worked with caster, fished up in the water at 12 metres for 127-11-0 at Beech 16 for second, Steve Roberts was in the line up again, his 113-9-0 Sycamore best giving him third and John Wild (Stafford) completed the all ton top four with 103-4-0 from Beech 20.
