Boldings report

SPORTS DESK  27/2/07

Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) kicked of another week of consistent weights at Boldings Pools. Drawn on corner peg 15 on the Ash Pool on Wednesday, Mel fished corn and pellet into the side for 63-7-0 of carp to 6lbs.

Martin Travis (Dorset AC) was only just over a pound adrift with an Ash Pool best of 62-1-0 from peg 7, where he caught at 10 metres and close in on pellet. Pete Plant (Maver Tipton) was on the opposite side of the Ash to Martin, and was some way behind in third with 46-6-0 at peg 20. Fourth came from Hawthorn peg 3, where Dave Brown (Maver Tipton) scaled 44-8-0.

Dave Brown moved up to top spot on Thursday, when the Deepdale Pool gave the top three catches. Dave’s catch of 54-15-0 consisted entirely of fish up to 2lbs, and included some lovely rudd to 1lb, and came to shallow fished corn, on the 10 metre line.

Opposite the winner, at peg 5, Graham Lane (F1 Match) fished close in and at 6 metres with pellet, for carp to 5lbs, to end on 49-13-0. Tony Foster (OB Wolves) scaled 37-6-0 at Deepdale 3 for third, and a Beech best of 33-13-0 gave Andy Williams (Rod & Gun) fourth.

On Saturday the Ash Pool took its turn to provide the winner, and Carl Foster (OB Wolves) stepped up to the mark. He fished pellet, up in the water at 12 metres from peg 5, and had carp in the 1lb to 3lb range, to build a winning 68-1-0 total.

Deepdale peg 4 saw Dave Barnard (Maver Wolves) add yet another frame place to an ever growing list. He operated with pellet at 10 metres, and maggot, close in, for 56-12-0. Jack Hailey (WAC Tackle) edged third from Kevin Melville (Phoenix) by 7 ounces. Jack weighed 47-15-0 at Deepdale 6, and Kevin had a Hawthorn best of 47-8-0.

Everyone except John Francis (Rod & Gun) found the going harder on Sunday. John cruised to victory with the top catch of the week, and for the fourth time in four matches, it was a different pool which gave the winning catch.

This time it was the Beech Pool, and ‘Franner’ fished pellet at 10 metres, alternated with close in for 72-8-0 of carp to 8lbs.

Runner up Paul Cartwright had less than half the winners weight at Chestnut peg 26, where 31-9-0 gave him the place. Over on the opposite bank of the chestnut, Steve Lawrence (OB Wolves) put 29-4-0 on the scales for third, and in the corner, to the right of the runner up, Colin Reynolds (Bilston Angling) filled the final frame place of the week with 28-9-0.

Boldings report

SPORTS DESK 20/2/07

Match weights climbed steadily as the week progressed and the weather improved at Boldings Pools.

Ian Place (Telford) kicked things off on Wednesday taking a 48-11-0 by fishing corn and maggot out to the stumps at peg 11 on the Stock Pool. Ian included carp to 5 lbs and some cracking perch to 3lbs in his catch.

Over on peg one on the Stock, Stuart Aston (Swan Jacks), last weeks winner, fished to the far bank with pellet and corn to find carp to 4lbs for a41-0-0 runner up total.

There was another pool best for Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) who took 3rd overall with 40-1-0 at Hawthorn peg 13. Back on the Stock, Dave Barnard (Maver Wolves) was a close 4th with 39-2-0 from peg 7.

Peg 11 on the Stock did the business again on Thursday, this time for Colin Reynolds (Bilston Angling). The perch stayed out of the picture and Colin had all carp, to 4lbs for 49-7-0, with the stumps again proving the productive area.

Down on the Deepdale, Mick Lane (Aldridge) had carp to 4lbs and some handsome rudd to a pound on maggot and corn, to take second with 40-13-0 at peg 4. The Middle Pool gave third to Ted Ecclestone (Maver Wolves) who scaled 31-2-0 at peg 1, and Dave Barnard was fourth again, this time with 29-0-0 from Deepdale 14.

Three different pools gave the top three scores again on Saturday, and on Sunday. On Saturday, Deepdale peg 4 produced again to give Mick Jameson (Middy ML) his turn at the top. Mick fished pellet at 10 metres to pick off carp in the 1lb to 5lb bracket steadily, to stay ahead of the field, finishing on 61-4-0.

Mel Kitson moved up from 3rd to 2nd with yet another pool best when he scaled 52-5-0, having caught on corn to each side of Beech peg 11.

Middle peg 1 gave third for the second time on the trot when Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Rod & Gun) popped 44-9-0 in the weigh bucket, leaving Neil Jones (Wrexham) on 40-5-0 at Deepdale 14, to collect 4th.

Sunday saw a big turn-out and a victory for Gary Morris (OB Wolves) to add to his runner up of last week. He drew peg 21 on the Chestnut and offered corn and pellet to the island. Carp to 7lbs accepted to give a final tally of 65-10-0.

Matt Stobbs (Rod & Gun) had the highest number of fish on the day, as all his 55-12-0 total were in the 1lb to 3lb range. He caught on pellet, close in at peg 9 on the Ash.

Dave Brown (Maver Tipton) was only 11 ounces behind Matt with 55-1-0 at Beech peg 20, and Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Angling Center) was 4th with 48-14-0 at Beech 3.

Boldings report

A WINTER TON FOR SWAN ROD ASTON.

Before the snow struck to cancel the Thursday open at Boldings, Stuart Aston (Swan JT) enjoyed a winter warmer on the Hawthorn Pool at Boldings on Wednesday, when the temperature dropped to minus 8c. He warmed himself up by putting together a superb net of 100-12-0.

Stuart drew peg 3 on the Hawthorn, and fished to the middle of the pool with corn, on the pole at 12 metres, to tempt carp to 7lbs.

Over on the Middle Pool, Mel Kitson (R&G) could have been forgiven for having expectations of winning as he netted carp to 5lbs regularly on corn and pellet, close in, on his way to 53-1-0. As it was Mel finished a distant, but safe second, with Pete Plant (Maver Tipton) taking third with 46-8-0 from the Hawthorn. Dave Barnard (Maver Wolves) was in the corner on the Hawthorn, and scaled 32-12-0 for 4th.

There was still plenty of snow around the fishery on Saturday, but not enough to stop proceedings, and not enough to prevent Nige Clarke (RAF Trabuco) adding another win to his double of last week. Having top prizes from the Ash and the Middle pools last week, Nige did it from the Oak this week. Pellet at 10 metres and close in at peg 16 saw him pull well ahead of the rest, with carp to 6lbs adding up to 47-8-0. On the opposite side of the Oak, one of last weeks winners, Gary Morris (OB Wolves) nipped into second with 27-0-0 on corn and pellet at ‘point’ peg 29. Mel Kitson completed another good week with another frame appearance, taking an Ash Pool best of 26-2-0 for third overall. Also on the Ash was 4th placed Dave Brown (Maver Tipton) on 21-15-0.

Maver Tipton rods made off with most of the prize money on Sunday, as Simon Richardson and Pete Plant took first and second.

Simon was on peg 4 on the Deepdale and netted a mixture of carp to 4lbs and bream to 2lbs, on pellet at 12 metres to tip 43-4-0 into the weigh net. Pete worked with pellet at 8 metres at Middle peg 3 for 37-12-0 of carp in the 1lb to 5lbs bracket.

Right across from the winner on the Deepdale, at peg 12, Dave Hailey (WAC Tac) found 32-4-0 for third, and right opposite the runner up on the Middle Pool, Graham Roberts handed up 31-2-0 for 4th.

Boldings report

SPORTS DESK. 6/2/07

A GREAT START AND FINISH FOR RAF MAN NIGE CLARKE, AS CORN TAKES OVER AS TOP BAIT AT BOLDINGS.

Corn was king at Boldings Pools this week, with all four match winners using the bait for their successes.

The mid-week matches both produced clear winners, while the Saturday and Sunday events gave much tighter frames. The clearest winner was Gary Morris (OB Wolves) who left the rest well in wake at the Thursday open, and recorded the top catch of the week, 63-15-0. The haul came from peg 26 on the Chestnut, where Gary fished corn to the island for carp to 8lbs.

Winner of last Thursdays match, Colin Reynolds (Bilston Angling) was second this time, but didn’t get near to matching the winner with a pellet and maggot fed 29-3-0 from peg 7 on the Chestnut. Corner peg 4 on the Sycamore provided Tony Foster (OB Wolves) with 24-9-0 for third, and just behind him was Mick Jameson (Middy ML) on 23-12-0 at Chestnut 35.

Tony Foster scored a pool best on the Wednesday open too, but again it was only good enough to give him third as the Middle Pool outdid the Hawthorn. Top man this time was Nige Clarke (RAF Trabuco) who was in the corner at peg 11 on the Middle. He combined corn with pellet to fish close to the side to find carp to 4lbs for a 56-3-0 winner.

At the nest peg Karl Haywood (Sedgeley) went out to 8 metres with shallow fished maggot to find carp in the 1 to 4lb bracket to put together a total of 44-11-0 to take second.

Over on the Hawthorn Tony Foster finished only 4 ounces shy of second with 44-7-0 at corner peg 7. Diagonally opposite Tony, at peg 15, Steve Roberts (Rod & Gun) grabbed 4th with 42-4-0.

When the week-end came around there were some hard frosts to contend with, followed by some bright sunny conditions. Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) made the most of the winter sun to add a win to his two frame places of last week, when he drew peg 8 on the Oak Pool. Mel fished corn and pellet close in and at 5 metres to net carp to 7 lbs on his way to 54-2-0. On the same side of the oak, Ted Ecclestone (Maver Wolves) worked with pellet, close in and at 10 metres to stay with the winner for much of the match but fell 5lbs short by the finish to scale 49-6-0. Third also came from the Oak when Alan Naylor (Rod & Gun) put 41-2-0 on the scales at peg 29. Fourth went to a Hawthorn Pool best of 39-4-0 from Paul Cartwright (OB Wolves).

The Ash Pool proved best on Sunday, when the temperature dipped to minus 5, and Nige Clarke proved to be best rod for the second time in the weeks proceedings, finishing as he started, in top spot. Nige was on Ash 7, and headed a tight frame with 36-12-0 on corn and caster at 12 metres. Paul Cartwright framed again, finishing a close second with 35-3-0 of carp and roach at Ash 4.

Jason Elwell (Wednesbury) had all the threes with 33-3-0 for 3rd from the Oak Pool, to just beat Mark Stevens (OB Wolves) on 32-13-0 at Ash 9.
