Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  6/9/11.

Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) opened the week at Boldings Pools with a 100lb winner on Monday after drawing peg 33 on the Sycamore. Carp to 9 lbs and bream to 3lbs, homed in on Dave’s pellet bait, fished at 4 metres, to give a return of 105-4-0.

Tony Armitage (Glynwed) topped the Chestnut card to finish second overall with 100-3-0. Tony fished paste at 5 metres and corn in the margins for carp to 8lbs. Third went to Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) on 92-6-0 at Sycamore 50 and two more Rod & Gun men followed in the list. Eric Bancroft had 84-15-0 and John Francis 84-0-0.

With the Hawthorn and Middle pools in use on Wednesday it was the Hawthorn which gave the top three weights, the best of these going to Mick Jameson(Mid Leisure) at peg 5. Pellet at 4 metres and to the island gave him figures of 93-14-0, made up with carp to 7lbs.

At peg 7, winner of the August Preston league Gary Morris (PI Boldings) used corn and pellet close in and at 7 metres to net 81-9-0 of carp to 8lbs to finish second. Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) scaled 75-9-0 at peg 3 for third and 4th went to a Middle Pool best of 67-7-0 by Phil Shaw (Lower Hill).

Weston raiders took home most of the prize money on Thursday by filling first third and fourth places. Dave Jones (Weston Pools) made the biggest impact when he hauled out 105-4-0 from Chestnut peg 9, using shallow pellet tactics.

Eric Bancroft scaled for the second time to prevent a Weston walkover, taking second with 88-10-0 from Chestnut 30. Weston’s Clive Wynn was top man on the Sycamore with 85-15-0 for third overall and Howard Williams had 73-3-0 for 4th at Chestnut 13.

There were two matches at Boldings on Saturday, the usual open and the Shimano sponsored Angling Times County Championships final eliminator. The AT event was apparently boycotted by a lot of anglers who had won their place in the match in protest over Angling Times pulling the plug on the Winter League, so there was far from a full line up.

Jason Benning (Oakengates Ang Cent) was the winner with 69-7-0 on pellet at 13 metres from Sycamore peg 34. Mick Keene (Tricast Weston) took second at Sycamore 20 where he netted 62-11-0. Josh Humphries (Weston Pools) had 61-15-0 for third, Adam Selley was 4th on 55-0-0 and Mal Watson, with 50-13-0 completed the top five, who will go forward to the final at Barston Lakes and Packington Somers on October 1st.

Pete Plant (Maver) took victory in the Saturday open using his favourite shallow caster method at Sycamore 4. Carp to 7lbs accepted Pete’s offerings and he finished with a level 98-0-0.

Shane Rogers (Oak Ang Cent) was on Hawthorn 15 where pellet and maggot put 91-7-0 of carp to 7lbs on the scales for second, and up at island peg 5 on the same pool Jason Atwell (Kingswinford) just edged 3rd with 87-4-0 with Carl Foster (PI Bold) only 4ounces behind on 87-0-0 at the next peg. Top weight on the Oak went to Dave Matson (R&G) who took 80-15-0 from peg 29.

The Nick Gretton Memorial match on Sunday attracted a big turn out and gave good tight frame. Local tackle dealer Chris Holmes (Middle Severn Angling) claimed the honours with a catch of carp to 10lbs and bream to 4lbs which totalled 105-7-0 at Sycamore 25. Chris fished maggot and corn to each side of the peg to keep the fish coming to the net.

Carp and barbel made up the runner up net of 104-0-0 handed to the scales by Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) at Oak peg 31. Pellet at 7 metres and close did the trick for Colin.

Gary Morris (PI Bold) netted exactly 100lbs for third at Sycamore 47, Dave Craggs (Maver) kept things close with 98-15-0 at Sycamore 31, while Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver Sonubaits) topped the Willows Pool with 95-13-0.
