Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  6/9/11.

At Boldings Pools on Monday Dave Jones (Weston Pools) started the weeks match programme with the top weight of the week, and despite being battered by gale force winds, the top four all beat the 100lbs mark.

Dave was Hawthorn 11 and presented corn and pellet close in to carp up to the 9lbs ,mark, which at the finish, gave a total of 138-2-0.

Also on peg 11, but on the Beech Pool, was runner up Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) who had a lot of fish in the 2lbs to 5lbs bracket on shallow pellet, for 117-13-0. Josh Humphries (ABC) had 111-5-0 from the Hawthorn for third and Carl Foster (Preston Innov Boldings) had 104-15-0, also from the Hawthorn, for 4th.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) stepped up from second last Wednesday to first this week after drawing peg 1 on the end of the dam wall on the Oak Pool. Paste, fished against the dam put carp to 6lbs in the net for a level 72-0-0.

In the opposite corner, at peg 31, Carl Foster made the frame again, picking up second this time with a pellet fed 59-11-0 of carp to 5lbs. Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) and Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had a peg to peg battle at pegs 11 and 13 to see who would finish third, with Tromans just edging it by 49-9-0 to 48-6-0.

Phil Shaw added a Thursday first to his Monday second, winning from Ash peg 3. Shallow pellet was the approach again for Phil and it put another 100lb catch on the scales for him with carp to 6lbs giving 104-1-0.

Richard Duke (BAS) was top man on the Chestnut with a level 94-0-0 of carp and bream, which he took on pellet shallow and corn close in at peg 32. Dave Jones added a third to his earlier win, and was only 6ozs off second when he scaled 93-10-0 at Ash 3. That left Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) to fill out the frame with his 90-15-0 for 4th at Chestnut 26.

Having finished second last Saturday Lee Atwell (Kingswinford) put his name on the winners purse this week when he led the rest home from peg 20 on the Sycamore. Pellet and corn at 6 metres and down the edge attracted carp to 9lbs for final figures of 95-11-0.

Shallow caster, as usual, was the ploy of runner up Pete Plant (Maver) at peg 32, where the fish ran smaller than at the winners pegs, with samples to 5lbs giving a total of 75-12-0. Jeff Pearson (PI Bold) and Jason Elwell (Pro Star Wednesbury) exchanged places on last weeks showing when Jeff scaled 74-1-0 for third at peg 22 and Jason had 71-9-0 at peg 16.

The week finished at Boldings, as it started, with an all ton top four. This time it was led by John Francis (Rod & Gun) who turned Sycamore 22 into a winner by fishing pellet at 3 metres and in the margins. Carp to 9lbs and bream to 3lbs moved in on the bait and at the whistle John had 131-10-0 in the bag.

Sycamore 20 also featured for the second day running, giving Dave Craggs (Maver) a close second place. He fished caster to each side of the peg for carp to 8lbs and barbel to 2lbs and a final tally of 127-15-0.

Eric Bancroft (R&G) topped the Willows card to finish third overall, scaling 104-4-0 at peg 11 and a Chestnut best of 102-10-0 saw Chris Holmes (Middle Severn Angling) into 4th.

That 4th by Chris Holmes sees him move into a three point lead in the Preston Innovations league for September, with one match remaining. He now has 16 points, Andy Bayliss-Kyte is second on 13, while John Francis and Dave Craggs both now have 12
