Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  18/5/11.

In a week more like March than May anglers around the County were battered by winds which reached gale force at times, putting sheltered pegs at a premium.

On Monday at Boldings Pools they took to the Stock and Hawthorn pools which resulted in another Monday win for Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) who caught carp to 7lbs and bream to 1lb at Stock peg 7. Corn and pellet on the close in line got the fish going and Colin slipped the net under 88-5-0 to win.

Last Mondays winner Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) wasn’t far behind with a Hawthorn top score of 81-12-0, taken on pellet and maggot fished to each side of peg 3.

Kevin Melville (Dorset Pools) finished third for the second Monday running when he scaled 78-5-0 at Hawthorn 15 and Richard Duke (Bridgnorth AS) took 4th from Stock peg 11 where he weighed 68-5-0.

Graham Evason (OB Wolves) led the way on the Sycamore on Wednesday with a corn and pellet combination, fished at 6 metres and in the side at peg 24. That put carp to 9lbs and bream to 3lbs in the net to give a winning total of 96-14-0.

On the opposite bank Jason Elwell (Pro-Line Wednesbury) fished paste over pellet at peg 33 to net 82-13-0, made up with carp to 8lbs. Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) had 66-4-0 from corner peg 27 for third and on the point at peg 13 58-2-0 gave Simon Osbourne (Stafford) 4th.

On Thursday Mark Foster (OBW) recorded the first ton of the week by alternating shallow fished pellet with corn fished into the corner at Sycamore 42. Carp to 8lbs responded to give figures of 101-2-0.

Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) opted for maggot at Sycamore 24 and had carp to 7lbs with barbel to 2lbs from each side of the peg to scale 89-14-0, which was enough to edge out a Chestnut best of 88-3-0 by Pete Ricketts (new Willenhall). Sycamore 13 gave 4th again, this time for Dave Matson (R&G) who had a level 83-0-0.

On Saturday two Maver Sonubaits rods were locked in battle for top honours, and in a neck and neck race for the winners purse/

Sean Barber got the decision with a catch of mainly smaller carp in the 1lb to 4lbs range, taken on shallow pellet for 107-3-0 at Ash peg 16. Andy Bayliss-Kyte pushed Sean all the way to the whistle from Oak peg 29, where shallow pellet and corn in the side attracted carp to 7lbs for 105-8-0.

Third went to a Beech best of 79-13-0 by Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) at peg 5 and Jason Elwell, last Saturdays winner, framed again, picking up 4th with his 67-13-0 at Beech 26.

There were three tons in the frame on Sunday despite the wind doing its best to put a damper on sport, and each of the three came from a different pool.

Leading the way was Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) at Sycamore peg 8. He fished maggot to each side of the point and was rewarded with a mix of carp, bream and barbel which added up to 120-10-0.

At Chestnut 21 Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) fished to the island and in the margins with maggot to find carp and barbel for 110-8-0 to claim second, ahead of Kelvin Emlyn (OAC) whose 107-0-0 came from Oak peg 8. Eric Bancroft had his second frame of the week when his 92-6-0 put him in 4th.
