Boldings report

Boldings Report 29/7/09.

On Saturday at Boldings Chris Bradney (Mosella Black Country) finished over 100lbs ahead of the Field when point peg 13 on the Sycamore produced some spectacular sport. Fishing corn and pellet to both sides of the point, Chris couldn’t go wrong, with carp after carp to 9lbs forming a procession to his net, to give final figures of 186-5-0.

Over at peg 33 fellow Mosella rod Dan Amphlett was also catching well, but with Chris almost directly in line of vision, he knew that he had no chance of keeping up. Dan offered pellet up in the water alternated with paste close in to net carp and bream, to finish on 82-0-0.

Lee Atwell (Kingswinford) was one fish behind Dan with 78-14-0 at peg 22 and Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver Sonu) was one behind him on 74-3-0 at peg 5.

The rain of last week-end put a dampener on sport for the Monday match on the Oak and it was a relatively modest 53-13-0 which claimed victory for Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun). He was on peg 21at the back of the island, and took carp to 5lbs on pellet at 0  metres.

Up at the other end of the pool Martyn Travis (MS Total Angling) fished pellet into the corner, and up in the water for 47-2-0 to nick second, just ahead of last weeks Sunday winner Gary Morris (OB Wolves) on 46-5-0 at peg 32. Colin Reynolds had the first of two frame places by taking 4th peg 1, where he weighed in 43-10-0.

The Middle, Hawthorn and Stock pools were in use on Wednesday, with the Middle proving best on the day and giving Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) ton up top catch of 114-9-0. Using pellet at 5 metres Ralph had a busy day building his weight with carp from 1lb to 3lbs.

Runner up Steve Roberts (R&G) was also on the Middle and combined pellet and corn to net carp to 6lbs on his way to 84-7-0. Carl Foster (OBW) was top man on the Hawthorn, taking third overall with 83-2-0, and Alf Taylor (OBW) was 4th from the same pool with 77-3-0. Best on the Stock was 67-1-0 by 5th placed Tony Foster (OBW).

Colin Reynolds moved up to first on Thursday when the top two pegs from Saturday featured again, this time in reverse order, with Sycamore 33 giving Colin his win, and peg 13 producing the runner up for Jack Hailey (OBW).

Colin fished corn and pellet at 5 metres, and in the margins to each side of his peg, to pick off carp to 9lbs, which added up to 110-14-0. Jack had his fish, carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs from each side of the point, on pellet, and weighed 98-6-0.

Kevin Melville (Dorset Pools) was a close third on 94-9-0 at Sycamore 42, and 86-4-0 from Chestnut 30 gave John Wild Stafford) 4th.

Sean Barber (Maver Sonu) won the Nick Gretton Memorial match on Sunday, and this time it was the Chestnut Pool which gave the top catch.

Sean was on peg 13 and switched between fishing shallow with pellet in open water and close in with corn, which saw him end the day on 103-3-0, which included carp to 6lbs.

On the same bank of the Chestnut, at peg19, Kye Faulkener (Telford) used similar tactics for a catch of carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs which put him on 78-8-0 and into second place.

Andy Bayliss-Kyte (MS) headed the Sycamore card form peg 48, where he scaled 73-6-0, and Richard Lawson (Maver Midlands) took 4th form Sycamore 50 with 70-0-0.

Thanks go to John and Sue Gretton for extra prizes of wines and spirits, and also to Alistair Turner and Steve Swift for spirits.
