Boldings report

Boldings Report 30/6/09

It took over 80lbs to win any of the opens at Boldings Pools this week, and over 100lbs on Saturday. At the start of the week Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall prevented a hat trick of Monday wins by Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) when he put 88-15-0 on the scales at peg 5 on the Willows Pool. Pellet, fished shallow at 12 metres helped Pete to net a mostly ghostie carp catch, which was boosted by the odd carp to 7lbs.

Colin was on peg 9 and fished pellet and corn at 8 metres and close in to net carp to 4lbs and tench to 2lbs, on his way to 64-14-0, which gave him second, which makes two firsts and two seconds in four Mondays. Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) picked up third when he scaled 51-2-0 at peg 17 and Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) added a fourth to his second of last week with 48-4-0 from peg 4.

The two point pegs on the Sycamore gave first and second places on Wednesday, with Andy Williams (Vespe) laying claim to the main prize at peg 8. He fished corn, close in to pick off carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs to win with 83-2-0. On the other point Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) offered corn and pellet to each side of the peg for an all carp 66-13-0, which “ounced” Phil Foster (OB Wolves) round at peg 49, where he finished on 66-12-0. Fourth went to Gary Morris (OBW) at corner peg 27 with a weight of 57-7-0.

The Sycamore was in use again on Thursday, and this time it was peg 13 which came up with the winner in the form of Richard Lawson (Maver Midlands). Fishing pellet, up in the water and close in, he netted an all carp 95-10-0, which featured fish to 9lbs.

Dave Barnard framed again, moving up from 4th to second by scaling 80-3-0 at peg 16. Dave caught on pellet and corn, fished at 5 metres and in the margins, with carp to 7lbs accepting the bait. Colin Reynolds also made the prize list again, picking up third thanks to 71-14-0 at peg 48, and Mel Kitson (R&G) had 70-1-0 for 4th at peg 33.

On Saturday John Francis (R&G) hit the ton from peg 14 on the Ash when loads of carp in the 1lb to 4lb range responded to his pellet bait, fished shallow into open water, and into the side, to give a final return of 103-3-0.

At peg 12 on the Hawthorn, Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) took carp to 8lbs on pellet, fished at 5metres and close in, to finish on 86-4-0. Close behind Mick was graham Evason (OBW) on 85-10-0 at Ash 16, and round at Ash 23 Carl Foster (OBW) netted 77-8-0 for 4th.

There was a close finish on Sunday when Willows pegs gave the top two weights, both of which fell to paste.

Steve Roberts (R&G) was on peg 16 and tempted some decent bream to 4lbs, as well as carp to 6lbs, which added up to 85-11-0, which was just enough to hold off Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent). Gareth was on peg 5, and had an all carp 84-5-0, featuring fish to 7lbs.

Kye Faulkener (Glynwed) topped the Sycamore card with 77-4-0 to finish third overall and Steve Swift (OBW) had 72-14-0 for 4th, also from the Sycamore.
