Boldings report

Boldings report    5-8-15.

Boldings Pools saw several close finishes this week, starting on the Monday open, which Phil Shaw [PI Boldings] won by less than half a pound. He was drawn on Willows peg 16 and opted for pellet as bait , which he fished up in the water to attract carp to 7lbs, as well as barbel to 4lbs. At the fish he had 142-10-0 to hand over to the scales, but round at peg 13 last Mondays winner Owen Boswell [Shrewsbury] had been catching a lot of carp in the 5lb class, and the outcome of the match was in doubt until the end of the weigh in. Owen caught his fish using shallow fished maggot, but when the scales settled he was 7 ounces short of the target on 142-3-0.

Second and third on the match came from the Larch Pool where Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] made his fourth successive Monday frame appearance with a Larch best of 115-14-0 from peg 19. Along at point peg 16 Neil Daniels [PI Bold] finished off the list with 106-6-0 for fourth.

Wednesday turned out to be the slowest day, sport wise, with Andy Williams [Vespe] claiming the winners purse when he scaled 83-10-0 at Oak peg 5, on the end of the dam wall. Maggot and corn, presented close in found carp to 6lbs, which made up the weight.

Runner up Scott Harding [Stoke] was on the Beech Pool, at peg 11, where pellet at 6 metres put 76-11-0 in the weigh net. Back on the Oak, at the opposite end to the winner, Phil Shaw was in the prize list again, his 74-6-0 giving a closer third, ahead of Mick Jameson [PI Bold] who had 70-8-0 at Oak 13.

Matt Stobbs [Oakengates Angling Centre] exchanged fourth place last Thursday for first place this week, taking victory from peg 33 on the Sycamore. Carp and bream featured in his net, with samples to 7lbs and 3lbs adding up to 113-6-0. The catch fell to pellet, worked at 6 metres and close in to the bank.

Jordan Hall [Middy] extended his run of frame finishes with a Chestnut top catch of 92-15-0 for second overall. He caught carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs on caster at 6 metres on peg 1. There was only two ounces between third and fourth, with Tony Woolaston [Fatty’s] scraping third from Chestnut 23 where he weighed in 81-10-0 to pip the 81-8-0 from Sycamore 8, which put Mick Jameson into fourth again.

Matt Stobbs completed a winning double by taking the honours again on Saturday, this time from the Willows Pool. Going out to 12 metres with pellet found carp to 6lbs with barbel to 4lbs, which Matt built into a 91-4-0 winner.

Over on peg 8 Steve Hall [Oswestry] used maggot and corn to finish less than a pound behind on 90-6-0, which consisted of carp to 8lbs. Paul Wheeler [PI Bold] was one more pound behind with his 89-6-0 at peg 4, and a Larch best of 62-3-0 from peg 26 gave Steve Heitzman [PI Bold] fourth.

There was another close finish on Sunday when Willows peg 8 was a winner for Dave Lloyd [Maver], who fished close in with pellet for 105-15-0 of carp to 7lbs and barbel to 4lbs.

Last Sundays winner Dave Hailey [PI Bold] had the top weight from the Sycamore, but was a couple of ponds adrift with his 103-8-0 of carp to 6lbs and bream to 2lbs, taken on shallow pellet from peg 13. Steve Roberts [Oak Ang Cent] picked up third from Willows peg 7 where he recorded 91-13-0, and back on the Sycamore Gary Morris [PI Bold] had 86-6-0 for fourth at peg 8.
