Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  2-10-12.

Josh Humphries (ABC) followed up his Wednesday win of last week at Boldings Pools by winning on Monday this week. The match was held on the Sycamore, and Josh drew peg 36, which he baited with maggot to each side of the peg, to attract carp to 8lbs and some barbel to 2lbs, which took the scales to 84-11-0.

Runner up Graham Evason (PI Boldings) caught on pellet at 5 metres at peg 33 where his 73-12-0 was made up with carp to 6lbs. Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) finished in third when he scaled 63-2-0 at peg 30.

The Sycamore was in action again on Wednesday, and Colin Wozak (Telford) picked up another first. This time it was peg 34 which produced the winning catch, with carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs falling to shallow pellet and margins tactics to give figures of 56-7-0.

The remaining places were closely contested, with 12 ounces between second and fourth. Ken Humphries (Oswestry) just nicked second with a maggot based mix of carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs for 43-1-0 at peg 47. Josh Humphries was in the frame again, trailing his dad by just three ounces with his 42-`14-0 at peg 8, and Richard Duke (BAS) in close attendance on 42-5-0 at peg 13.

Thursday saw another close match, which was won by Alan Jones (Deggys) from Beech peg 7. Corn and pellet, fished at 5metres, and close to each side of the point helped Alan to edge to a 5lbs advantage, with carp to 7lbs adding up to 62-13-0.

At peg 1 on the Oak, Phil Rhodes (PI Bold) fished into the corner and along the dam wall with pellet to find carp to 6lbs and barbel to 2lbs to post 57-12-0, which just gave him second, ahead of John Wild (Stafford) who had 57-3-0 at Beech 14. Josh Humphries completed a hat trick of placings by weighing 55-4-0 at Oak 24.

The Middle, Hawthorn and Stock pools were used on Saturday and it was the Middle which gave the top two catches, which came from corner pegs diagonally opposite to each other.

Winner Jason Elwell was on peg 8 and alternated fishing at 5 metres with offering his bait into the corner, and had carp to 7lbs on his way to 87-9-0 and top spot.

Over at peg 1 Ken Humphries put himself in the frame again by fishing pellet to the paddles and at 5 metres to end the day on 80-10-0 to collect second.

Richard Duke added a third to his earlier 4th when he had the top score from the hawthorn, 68-6-0 from peg 3. At Hawthorn 11 Mitch Davidson (Maver Gold)  scaled 65-11-0 or 4th and Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) was best on the Stock with 59-15-0 from peg 10.

The Nick Gretton Memorial match was held on Sunday when Andy Kyte (Maver Sonubaits) was delighted to mark the remembrance of Nick with the top weight of the week. He pulled Willows peg 21 from the drawbag and worked hard for his win by switching between fishing shallow, on the deck and close in to keep the fish coming to the net. At the whistle he had 93-15-0 of carp to 6lbs and barbel to 2lbs.

Over on the Larch Pool, Brian Clark (Colmic Marukyu) fished long and short poles with pellet for his runner up 87-5-0 of carp to 7lbs at peg 5. back on the Willows Alistair Humphreys (PI Bold) was a close third with 83-13-0 from peg 9 and not far behind him, on 79-1-0 was Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) at peg 4.

Top man on the Beech was Wednesdays winner Colin Wozak on 64-10-0.

The prize list was boosted by John and Sue Gretton who donated bottles of whiskey and wine.
