The mid-week matches at Boldings Pools gave some close finishes this week, and Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) only just missed out on making his hat trick of Monday wins a quartet of firsts.

Andy Buckley (Telford) was the man who prevented the fourth win for Bancroft when he exchanged places with the Rod & Gun man on last weeks showing. He drew peg 9 on the Ash and worked shallow pellet to tempt carp to 3lbs which gave a final tally of 88-8-0.

Eric was on the other side of the pool at peg 16 where carp to 7lbs responded to his maggot and paste baits, but he was left one fish short of his fourth consecutive victory when the scales settled at 86-5-0.

One more fish behind was Graham Evason (Preston Innov Boldings) who led the Beech pool catches with 83-15-0 at peg 18, and fourth man Carl Foster (PI Bold) had 75-4-0 from Ash 23.

The Chestnut Pool gave similar weights to those of Monday for the Wednesday open and came up with a 90-7-0 winner for Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) after he drew peg 3. Corn and Pellet fished down the side found carp and bream, with samples to 7lbs and 3lbs combining to give Bob victory.

Ken Humphries (Oswestry) settled on a paste and corn approach at peg 15, offering paste at 5 metres and corn close in to net carp to 7lbs on his way to 89-0-0 and second place.

Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) was opposite the winner on peg 37 where 81-1-0 put him in third spot, and three pegs up from him Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) finished 4th on 60-2-0.

Weights rose the following day on the Chestnut and Pete Ricketts wasn’t far ahead of the runner up when he recorded 122-9-0 at peg 30. Shallow pellet, alternated with paste at 5 metres saw the net sliding under carp to 8lbs and barbel to 2lbs at regular intervals.

Andy Williams (Vespe) fished corn close in to each side of peg 4 to keep the pressure on the winner right up to the whistle, finishing on 115-15-0.

It was close between third and fourth as well, with John Wild (Stafford) claiming third with his 82-15-0 at peg 32, and Graham Evason framing again, just behind third on 80-13-0.

The upward trend in weights continued into the week-end and Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) won on Saturday with a haul of 138-6-0 from Chestnut peg 21. Carp and barbel featured again, falling to pellet at 4metres.

Jason Atwell (Kingswinford) fished corn and pellet down the side at peg 1 on the Sycamore for a carp and bream catch of 114-8-0 to win the pool and take second overall. Pete Plant used shallow caster at Sycamore 13 for his third placed 104-12-0, and Tony Foster (PI Bold) netted 94-10-0 at Chestnut 8 to finish 4th.

Sycamore peg 1 featured again on Sunday when Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) hammered the opposition to finish almost 96lbs clear. Switching between shallow pellet in open water and close in with corn pellet, Sean filled his nets with carp to 12lbs and barbel to 2lbs.

Matt Stobbs (Oak Ang Cent) found carp and bream with corn and pellet fished to each side of the point at Beech peg 7 to put his name on second prize with a weight of 100-11-0.

Eric Bancroft made his second frame appearance of the week when his 89-13-0 at Beech 18 gave him third, just ahead of Ant Shipton (PI Bold) on 89-2-0 at Sycamore 13.

Sean Barbers win takes him to the top of the July points in the Preston Innovations league. He now has 19 points, Kel Emlyn has 13 and Eric Bancroft 11.
