Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 27/7/10.

They had a tremendous match at Boldings Pools on Sunday, when 104-6-0 was only good enough for tenth place and the top five anglers averaged over 155lbs apiece in what turned out to be a tight frame.

For the second time in three weeks Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) recorded the top weight of the week at the complex, but this time he couldn’t afford to put a foot wrong with several competitors all posing a threat to his victory if he made any mistakes.

There were no mistakes though, and no bad luck at peg 13 on the Chestnut, as Sean filled his net with carp to 9lbs to record 162-11-0, the catch coming to shallow fished pellet, alternated with corn and pellet close in.

Both of the point pegs on the Sycamore featured, with Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) picking up second from peg and Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) finishing third on peg 13. Both fished to each side of the point, with Dave edging ahead by just over 5lbs, ending the day on 159-9-0 to Gareth’s 154-4-0.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) put together an Oak Pool best of 151-5-0 at peg 8 to finish 4th and Shane Rogers also beat the 150lbs mark with 150-9-0 for 5th at Oak peg 29.

Carl Foster won the Monday open last week, and this week it was his brother Tony Foster (OB Wolves) turn to take centre stage with a clear win. He was on Ash peg 3 and had a lot of carp in the 2lb to 3lb bracket, helped along by an occasional fish of 7lbs, all on shallow pellet, for a final tally of 136-5-0.

Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) was almost opposite Tony, on peg18, and he also had mainly small carp on shallow pellet for his runner up 91-14-0. Glen Brown (Lilco) scaled 79-8-0 for third at Ash 9 and Carl Foster (OBW) finished 4th this time with 77-7-0 at peg 20.

Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) had 40lbs to spare over the rest on Wednesday when carp to 13lbs added up to 130-9-0 at Hawthorn peg 3. Ralph caught on pellet at 5 metres and in the side.

Pete Ricketts added a second to his 4th on Sunday when he netted 89-14-0 at Hawthorn 11. Carl Foster was there again taking third with a Stock Pool best of 88-0-0, leaving Gareth Charnock (Liverpool) on 82-12-0 to pick up 4th.

Thursday saw a close finish with three pounds separating first and third, when John Wild (Stafford) topped a trio of ton with 116-2-0 form Sycamore 13.

Eric Bancroft (R&G) just got second ahead of Ed Turner (OBW) when he put 113-11-0 on the scales at Sycamore 24 and Ed weighed 113-2-0 at Chestnut 4. Gareth Emlyn was in the frame again, his 92-7-0 at Sycamore 33 giving him 4th.

Brian Clarke (Maver) added to his Springlea successes in the week by winning the Boldings Saturday match with a level 94-0-0 from Hawthorn 13. Sean Barber warmed up for big Sunday win by finishing second on this one with an Ash pool top score of 80-11-0.

Simon Jukes (OBW) was 10lbs behind Sean on 70-0-0 at Hawthorn 11, and Shane Rogers framed again , finishing 4th at Ash 5 with 65-14-0.
