Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  10-4-14.

Boldings Pools produced their best weight of the year so far last Wednesday, in a week of consistently high frame returns.

The week started with a win for Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] at the Monday match, when he drew peg 22 on the Oak Pool. Pellet and corn in the margins attracted carp to 6lbs, with bream to 2lbs also putting in an appearance to help Colin to 85-15-0.

Second came from the Willows in the shape of Tony Foster [PI Boldings] who found carp to 5lbs with barbel to 3lbs by offering pellet at 7 metres and in the side to net 74-12-0 at peg 11. Gary Steele [Wolves] was also on the Willows, taking his third placed 55-3-0 from peg 18. Back on the Oak Mick Foan [Rod & Gun] was a close 4th with 54-13-0 at peg 24.

Sedgley based Adam Slade stepped into the winners shoes on Wednesday when he put together a mix of carp to 6lbs and bream to 1lb for a total of 87-12-0 at Beech peg 29. Adam attracted his fish with pellet, alternating the 4 metre and 6 metre lines.

Runner up Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] had all carp from 1lb to 4lbs in his 79-10-0 at Ash peg 7. His fish came to pellet and maggot fished at 5 metres. Phil Shaw [PI Bold] finished just behind Ken when he scaled 79-8-0 at Ash peg 14, and at Beech peg 7 Phil Rhodes [PI Bold] weighed 72-9-0 in 4th.

Ken Humphreys cranked up the catch rate the following day to hammer out an impressive early season 154-12-0. The catch included carp barbel and bream, with carp to 8lbs joining bream and barbel to 3lbs in the race to snap up Kens maggot bait, fished shallow in open water as well as close to the bank at Sycamore 33.

Another Oswestry rod, Steve Hall, was also on a high catch rate at Oak peg 29. Shallow fished caster and maggot accounted for 129-5-0 of carp to 5lbs to put Steve into second place. Tony Foster framed again, scaling 96-4-0 at Sycamore peg 24 to finish third, and one fish behind him, on 93-4-0 was Pete Ricketts [New Willenhall] at Oak 27.

Maggot, fished shallow and into the side saw Andy Kyte [Maver Sonubaits] through to victory on Saturday by attracting carp to 7lbs with bream to 3lbs into his swim at peg 9 on the Chestnut. By the end of the match Andy had 86-9-0 in his net, which was enough to hold off Mitch Davidson [Oakengates Ang Cent]. He used similar tactics at peg 13 on the Sycamore for a mix of carp and barbel, but was one fish short when the scales indicated 91-3-0.

At corner peg 50 on the Sycamore Mick Jameson [PI Bold] had 81-11-0 for third and a Larch best of 76-0-0 put Steve Hall in the frame again.

There were no less than seven weights of over 100lbs recorded in the Sunday open, led by 138-1-0 put on the scales by Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] at Sycamore peg 50. Working maggot into the corner and alongside the bank helped Andy to pick off carp to 9lbs and barbel to 3lbs.

Round at peg 40 Jack O’Sullivan [Oakengates Ang] used shallow maggot tactics combined with a close in attack for his runner up 110-5-0 of carp and bream. Andy Kyte made the list again, picking up third thanks to 108-5-0 at peg 16, and two up from the winner, Dave Matson [Rod & Gun] scaled 1`06-5-0 in 4th.
