Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  18-12-13.

Average weights were below normal in the early part of the week at Boldings Pools but showed an up ward trend towards the week-end, as the fish continue to acclimatise to winter temperatures.

Monday open winner Mick Jameson [PI Boldings] finished 14lbs clear with a mixture of barbel and carp from peg 49 on the Sycamore. Mick opted for a leger approach using maggot and corn bait, and had carp to 6lbs with barbel to 3lbs his 54-1-0 winning bag.

Runner up Josh Humphries [ABC] worked close in with maggot at peg 16 to find carp to 4lbs and barbel to 3lbs for a total of 40-3-0. 28-14-0 from peg 31 put Richard Duke [BAS] into third and just behind him, on 27-5-0 at peg 25 was Keith Powell [PI Bold].

The Chestnut Pool was in fairly subdued form on Wednesday, but gave an interestingly tight frame with Alan Jones [Deggys] just grabbing first by 6 ounces. He was on peg 13 and went out to 14 metres, where carp to 4lbs accepted his corn bait to give a return of 30-3-0.

Mick Jameson added a second place to his Monday first by targeting carp to 4lbs and bream to 2lbs, using pellet and corn at 12 metres from peg 9. One more of either species would have made him a double winner, but it was not to be and the scales settled at 29-13-0. Pete Ricketts [New Willenhall] wasn’t far off the pace with his 28-2-0 from peg 38, while at peg 6 Phil Foster [PI Bold] scaled 25-7-0 to pick up fourth.

Having scored two seconds last week, Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] moved back to top spot on the Thursday match when he was a clear winner. Drawn on point peg 7 on the Beech, Colin eased away from the opposition by feeding maggot at 13 metres to pick off carp to 5lbs and roach to 1lb on his way to 45-5-0.

Over to the left of the winner, at peg 18, Bob Baker [Kings] combined maggot and corn to tempt carp to 4lbs, but couldn’t keep up with the pacesetter, finishing on 28-15-0. Next door to Bob, at peg 16, fellow Kings rod Tony Woolaston finished one fish behind to scale 27-8-0, and on the other side of the pool, at peg 26 Mick Keene [Tricast Weston] had 22-11-0 in fourth.

Alan Naylor flew the flag for Oakengates Angling Centre on Saturday, claiming the winners laurels from Larch peg 14. His haul of 48-1-0 consisted of carp to 6lbs, which he attracted with maggot, fed close in to the bank.

Colin Reynolds dropped one place to add another second to his list, and had the satisfaction of scoring a pool best as his 45-13-0 came from the Chestnut. Pellet at 4 metres, alternated with fishing at 7 metres found carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs.

Back on the Larch Mitch Davidson [Colmic] netted 36-4-0 at peg 23 to finish third, ahead of Steve Owen [Wolves] on 32-8-0 at peg 19.

The Boldings Fur & Feather attracted a big entry on Sunday, with 77 anglers vying for the top prize of a Christmas hamper and £150 in cash. Matt Stockton [Maver Midlands laid claim to it by posting the top weight of the week, 60-6-0, at Sycamore peg 8. Matt averaged five fish an hour dropping into his net, finishing the day with 25 F1s, which fell to maggot fished at 7 metres.

Mark Skelton [Oakengates Ang Cent] worked with maggot and corn at Willows peg 16, presenting his bait at 13 metres, and down the side, to find carp to 5lbs and barbel to 3lbs which added up to 53-6-0 to hand Mark the second prize.

Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] was top man on the Beech and third overall with 48-2-0 from peg 9. Fourth came from the Sycamore where Mick Jameson had his third placing of the week, his 47-7-0 coming from peg 21. The Larch Pool top prize went to Shane Rogers [Oak Ang Cent] who had a level 43-0-0 at peg 14 and 42-15-0 from peg 32 by Dave White [Maver Midlands] was best on the Chestnut.
