Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  8-5-13.

Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] kicked off another week of big weights at Boldings, where only one of the six matches in a full programme, was won with less than 100lbs.

Eric picked up the winners laurels on Monday after he drew peg 7 on the Ash, and found that the bigger carp had moved in, and samples to 8 lbs accompanied bream to 2lbs in his net. Pellet 4lbs and maggot close in put a total of 140-15-0 on the scales for the victory.

Mick Jameson [PI Boldings] also caught at 4 metres and down the side at peg 18 on the Beech, where carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs made up his runner up 116-8-0. Ian Hughes [Drennan NW] came third from pg 14 on the Ash with 111-3-0, with Gary Morris [PI Bold] 4th on 110-2-0 at Beech 16.

Wednesday was the only day when the fish took a bit of a rest from feeding voraciously, but while weights were down on the rest of the week, the finish was a good deal closer than the rest of the matches, with only 5lbs between the top three.

Brian Clarke [Colmic Marukyu] was the man who edged ahead of the rest with a corn based 76-8-0, made up with carp to 6lbs, taken fishing to the island at peg 21 on the Chestnut.

Round at peg 18 Phil Foster [PI Bold] worked pellet at 5 metres and in the side to finish second with 74-5-0 of carp and bream. On the opposite side of the island to the winner, last weeks Sunday winner Harry Colley [PI Bold] scaled 71-3-0 to collect third, leaving Keith Powell [PI Bold] on 63-13-0 at peg 23, to pick up 4th.

Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] became the only winner from last week to take top spot again this week when he tempted the fish at Sycamore peg 50 by fishing shallow bread in open water combined with corn into the corner. Carp to 9lbs responded to give a finishing tally of 148-7-0.

Another corner peg, number 4 on the Sycamore gave second place to Steve Hall [Oswestry] who had all his fish, carp to 7lbs and barbel to 3lbs, on corn, for figures of 120-14-0. Close behind Steve, with the top score from the Chestnut, was Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] who took his 119-11-0 from peg 18. Fourth also came from the Chestnut when Mark Capewell [Ind] weighed in 114-4-0 at peg 1.

Steve Owen [Wolves] converted a second last Saturday to a first this time out and made Beech peg 18 a winner with 132-7-0, a catch which featured carp to 8lbs. Corn and pellet to each side of the peg were the successful tactics.

Andy Kyte [Maver Sonubaits] fished pellet at 8 metres and maggot close in at Ash peg 14 to net a mixed bag of carp, roach and bream for his 102-14-0, a weight matched exactly by Jason Benning, who had a similar mix of fish on pellet and corn at peg 32 on the Beech. Back on the Ash, Matt Eggerton [Oakengates Ang Cent] netted 96-14-0 for fourth.

Andy Kyte moved to first place on Sunday when he had a Willows best of 131-1-0 from peg 7. Combining shallow pellet tactics with corn in the margins put carp to 8 lbs on the scales.

At Oak peg 22Shallow bread and maggot down the side put Andy Williams in the frame again, helping him to a return of 122-4-0. At Willows peg 4 Kevin Melville [Matrix Total Angling] scaled 92-4-0 to hold off Graham Roberts [PI Bold] whose 89-8-0 came from Oak 31.

The bright sun and hot weather on Bank Holiday Monday seemed to suit the fish well and they got down to some serious feeding, possibly in preparation for spawning. Whatever the reason, it led to top weight of the week of 168-13-0 for Richard Lawson [Matrix TA]. He was on Sycamore peg 27 and included carp to 10lbs with bream to 2lbs I his bag, which he took on maggot, fished shallow, and down the side.

Colin Reynolds framed again with a second placed 135-2-0 from Sycamore 36. Colin caught on pellet to each side of the peg, and had carp to 8lbs with barbel to 3lbs. Less than a pound behind second was Simon Jukes [PI Bold] with a Chestnut best of 134-5-0, and back on the Sycamore Andy Williams made his third frame appearance with 129-14-0 .
