Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  1-5-13.

Competitors at Boldings Pools enjoyed a bonanza week, with three of the five matches giving all ‘ton’ frames, and the other two being won with big ‘tons’.

Carl Foster [PI Boldings] started the trend on Monday on the Sycamore when he fished into the corner and out to 5 metres at peg 4, using pellet to bring carp to 9lbs and barbel to 3lbs onto the feed, for figures of 126-15-0.

Only just over a pound off the winners pace was Graham Evason [PI Bold] at peg 36 carp to 10lbs put in an appearance, together with bream to 3lbs which put Graham on 124-10-0. A level 108-0-0 from peg 16 put Keith Powell [PI Bold] in third and Brian Preece [BAS] completed the line up of tons with 103-4-0 at peg 48.

Beech peg 18 came up with a 122-15-0 winner for Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] on Wednesday when he alternated shallow fished bread with corn in the margins to find carp to 9lbs.

Out on the point at peg 7, in front of Andy, Phil Shaw [Lower Hill] worked pellet at 6 metres and close for a mix of carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs, which added up to 86-13-0 and gave him second, but by less than a pound as Pete Ricketts [New Willenhall] finished on 85-15-0 at peg 16. Opposite the runner up at peg 23 Colin Wozek [Matrix TA] scaled 80-12-0 in 4th.

The Thursday frame gave an average of 144lbs and 120lbs was only good enough for 4th. Pete Ricketts moved up from third the previous day to first place this time by hammering out 162-12-0 from point peg 13 on the Sycamore. Carp to 9 lbs and bream to 3lbs lined up for Pete’s pellet bait, which he fished to each side of the point.

Spare a thought for Steve Roberts [Oakengates Ang Cent] who found his 162-4-0 beaten into second by 8 ounces. He was on peg 34 and had carp and barbel on maggot and corn, fished close in.

Howard Williams [ Tricast Weston] was top rod on the Chestnut, but found his 130-2-0 from peg 21 left him in third, with Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] following him from Chestnut 30 where he weighed 120-6-0.

Dave Brown [Maver Midlands] almost doubled the runner up weight on Saturday when he put maggot to good use at Sycamore 33, offering the bait shallow in open water as well as in the margins for an all carp 150-1-0.

Steve Owen [Wolves] fished corn and pellet to each side of point peg 8, but couldn’t match the winner and was well behind on 78-8-0 at the whistle. Grant Price [Fiveways] grabbed third from peg 24 with 75-1-0, just beating Graham Palmer [Fitters] on 74-2-0 at peg 13.

Sycamore 33 came up with another winner on Sunday, this time for Harry Colley [PI Bold] who decided a different bait strategy to that of the previous day was needed to fool the fish into biting again. He opted for meat and pellet, mainly close in, and was rewarded with carp to 10lbs and barbel to 3lbs which helped him to 127-8-0.

Dave Hailey [PI Bold] worked pellet, shallow and in the side at peg 48 to put 115-9-0 of carp and bream on the scales to take second. Nige Clarke [Matrix] was only a fish or two behind second with his 110-6-0 at peg 30, and close behind him, Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] finished off another big frame with 108-2-0 at peg 45.
