Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  3-4-13.

Temperatures were down at around minus two for the Monday open at Boldings, but the wind factor meant it felt a good deal colder for most competitors. Les Thompson [Matrix] had the warmest felling at the end of the match, as he had put together a winning net of 53-8-0 at peg 20 on the Ask Pool. The catch consisted of carp to 2lbs and skimmers to 1lb, which fell to pellet, fished at 14 metres.

On the other side of the pool, at peg 7 Gary Steel [Willenhall Tackle] also fished pellet at 14 metres, but although his carp tended to be bigger than those of the winner, he had less of them to go with his skimmers to 1lb, leaving him 11lbs shy of victory on 42-11-0. Jordan Hall [Maver] has been making an impact at Boldings recently, and he made the first of two appearances in the frame this week with a close third place, courtesy of 41-12-0 from peg 9. Last weeks double winner Terry Edwards [Kings] completed the frame at peg 3 where he weighed 27-2-0.

Ken Humphries [Oswestry] won by the biggest margin of the week when he took victory on Thursday at peg 7 on the Beech. Fishing 13 metres out from the point with pellet put Ken in touch with carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs, and he eased ahead of the field to finish on 77-15-0.

Terry Edwards was in the reckoning again, having an Oak Pool top weight of 48-6-0, which put him in second place overall. He had his fish, carp to 4lbs, on corn and pellet at 12 metres, from peg 16. Peg 18 on the Beech provided Kev Lees [Oakengates Ang Cent] with third thanks to a 37-10-0 total, leaving Josh Humphries to collect fourth with his 32-2-0 from Oak peg 16.

Jordan Hall moved to the top of the list on Good Friday when he drew on the Ash Pool again. This time he was on peg 9 and found carp to 5lbs had moved in to mop up his pellet and caster, fished at 14 metres, and at the whistle his net held a level 54-0-0.

Almost opposite Jordan at peg 14, Mark Taylor [Shakespeare] used similar tactics to the winner but found the carp at his peg were of a smaller stamp at around 3lbs, and he also included bream to 2lbs, and at the finish he was just under 4lbs short on 50-5-0. Kelvin Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] had the top catch from the Stock Pool, 49-2-0 from peg 3, to finish a close third, and back on the Ash, Steve Roberts {Oak Ang Cent] had 43-15-0 at peg 5 to take 4th.

Saturday gave the closest finish of the week, and 54-0-0 was again the winning weight, coming this time from peg 4 on the Larch Pool, which was drawn by Tony Foster [PI Boldings]. He had a mix of carp to 5lbs with bream to 2lbs on pellet at 12 metres to record his win.

Less than a pound behind at peg 16 on the same pool was Tony Kull [Ind] who fished pellet and corn at 14 metres for an all carp 53-1-0.

In between the top two, at peg 7, Joe Brennan [PI Bold] recorded 46-1-0 to claim third, while an Oak best of 44-13-0 from peg 1 handed 4th to Gary Gollins [Swan JT].

Top weight of the week came on Sunday again in spite of temperatures of minus 5c, which had the aerators working overtime. The Ash Pool provided the winning catch for the third time, with corner peg 22 proving best this time. That’s where Jamie Longford [Maver Midlands] was drawn, and he offered pellet into the corner to tempt carp to 5lbs to build a weight of 87-10-0.

At Ash 4 Scott Doodson [Preston Innov] found carp to 6lbs and bream to 2lbs using pellet at 13 metres for a tally of 73-1-0, which gave him the runner up spot. A Larch top score of 66-13-0 from peg 5 handed third to Wayne Mellings [Maver Midlands] and an Oak best of 66-6-0 from peg 13 saw Gareth Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] finish a close fourth.
