Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  19-3-13.

At the start of the week at Boldings the signs of Spring were in evidence after the week-end snow had disappeared, with black thorn bushes in blossom, daffodils flowering and green leaves beginning to show on the hawthorn hedges and bushes. It didn’t feel much like Spring though with the wind swinging to an easterly direction to greet the entrants for the Monday open on the Oak Pool.

Match winner Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] was the only angler in the frame to be facing east, but he found carp and barbel lying close to the bank at peg 11, and coaxed samples to 6lbs and 2lbs respectively, with maggot bait, to build a winning 56-5-0 bag.

Over at peg 31 Graham Evason [PI Boldings] worked pellet into the corner, and out at 8 metres, to net an all carp 49-5-0, which gave him second. Close behind Graham, was Phil Shaw [Lower Hill] who had 47-9-0 from island peg 22, and up on the point at peg 29, Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] completed the frame with 39-5-0.

It was a little warmer on Wednesday and the winning weight rose accordingly, with Terry Edwards [Kings topping the 70lb mark at peg 3 on the Hawthorn. Fishing the middle of the pool with pellet at 12 metres, Terry picked off carp to 5lbs on his way to a 70-4-0 winning net.

At peg 9 on the same pool Pete Ricketts [New Willenhall] offered pellet to the island, and in open water, to find carp to 4lbs, but a slower catch rate left him 15lbs behind the winner with a level 55-0-0.

Over on the Beech Pool, consistent peg 18 gave Phil Shaw his second pick up of the week, with a pool best of 52-8-0 for third overall. Fourth also came from the Beech when Ken umphriesH  Humphries [Oswestry] scaled 47-10-0 at peg 7.

Thursdays winner Colin Smith [ PI Bold] drew peg 23 on the end of the Ash Pool, which responded to a maggot and pellet combination, fished into the corner. At the finish, Colin had slipped the net under 63-12-0 of carp to 4lbs.

Up at peg 5 on the Ash, Howard Williams [Tricast Weston] went out to 13 metres with pellet, and had carp to 4lbs with bream to 2lbs to finish second on 47-11-0. A Deepdale best of 47-3-0 gave Jordan Hall [Maver] a close third, and back the Ash 40-6-0 from peg 9 handed third to Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe].

Terry Edwards pocketed his second winners purse of the week on Saturday, but had to endure fishing through a blizzard which deposited 5 inches of snow, to do so, and despite the snow, he fished the pole at 14 metres to present his pellet bait at peg 5 on the Ash Pool. Carp from 2lbs to 4lbs joined bream to 2lbs in Terry’s net to give a final tally of 44-9-0.

Rob Hancox [Kings] also persevered with 14 metre pole at Ash 9 and caught carp to 3lbs with bream to 2lbs fro a runner up 38-15-0. Third came from Ash 7 where Nige Clarke [Matrix] weighed 21-2-0.

A wind chill factor of minus 5c on Sunday seemed to have no effect on the fish at peg 9 on the Hawthorn, except perhaps to encourage them to huddle in the shelter of the island. It certainly didn’t put them off the feed, with match winner Andy Kyte [Maver Sonubaits] hauling out an incredible 102-2-0, which consisted of carp to 6lbs, which Andy tempted with bread punch, fished at 12 metres.

Steve Owen [PI Bold] had a respectable 39-4-0 on pellet at 12 metres from peg 13 to claim second, and opposite him, at peg 3, Colin Wozak [Matrix TA] had a hard earned 22-8-0 fishing into the wind
