Boldings report

Boldings Report 2/7/08.

The prize money was well spread at Boldings this week, with no one making the top four more than once in any of the four opens.

Top weight of the week went to Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) who won on Thursday with 116-6-0. Eric fished maggot and corn to each side of the point at peg 8 on the Sycamore to pick off carp to 9lbs and bream to 4lbs, and finished 40lbs clear of Dave Matson (R &G). Dave had the best catch from the Chestnut Pool, and just sneaked second by 6onces, when he scaled 76-8-0, which fell to corn on the tip at peg 21.

Steve Davies (Oakengates Ang Cent) was the man just behind Matson. He had 76-2-0 at peg 13 on the Sycamore, to finish just in front of fellow Oakengates Angling rod Shane Rogers on 74-7-0 at Sycamore 33.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) took the honours in the first match of the week at Boldings, topping the ton from peg 13 on the Sycamore. Pete worked to each side of the peg , and out at five metres to find carp to 8lbs and bream to 4lbs, to end the day on 101-8-0. Over to Pete’s left, Mick Williams (Rod & Gun) also offered corn and pellet at peg 25, to take carp and bream from each side of the peg. Slightly smaller fish, carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs, left him 5lbs short of the winner on 95-14-0. Richard Lawson (R&G) was only a pound and a half behind Williams on 94-6-0 in third place at Sycamore 39, and Tony Foster (OB Wolves) finished off the frame on 75-6-0 at peg 33.

The Ash Pool proved best on Saturday, coming up with the top two weights, with Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) leading the way. Drawn on peg 18, Ralph offered pellet, up in the water out towards the middle, alternated with corn close in, for carp in the 1lb to 6lb range, which added up to 94-15-0 at the final whistle.

Pete Price (Wirral) had 82-13-0 of carp from 1lb to 3lbs on shallow pellet at Ash peg 14 to finish second. Jamie Langford (OB Wolves) filled third with a Sycamore top score of 75-11-0 at peg 39, and Colin Reynolds (Bilston AC) had a Beech best of 63-8-0 for 4th.

Bigger fish clinched a narrow victory for Neil Mansfield (Wem) on Sunday, when carp to 9lbs, caught on corn, close in at Sycamore peg 24, gave him just 5 ounces to spare over last weeks big winner, Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent). Neil’s fish gave him a final tally of 71-9-0, while Gareth’s carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs, came to 71-4-0 at Sycamore 13.

Sycamore peg 39 provided third for the third time in a week, this time for Brian Clarke Maver Midlands) who scaled 60-14-0 to edge out Ed Turner (OB Wolves) on 59-11-0 at Sycamore 36.
