Boldings report

Sports Desk 5/3/08

BROWN NETS FIRST TON OF 2008 AT BOLDINGS.

Only 8 weeks into the year and Dave Brown (Wolves) recorded the first ton of 2008 at Boldings Pools. It wasn’t even a nice Spring day on Sunday, with cold, overcast conditions, and snow forecast to be moving in, but Dave was busy with carp to 5lbs at peg 29 on the Oak Pool, netting a succession of fish on shallow fished maggot on his way to 107-15-0.

Over on the Sycamore, Graham Roberts (OB Wolves) was also catching well at point peg 13, and must have been surprised that his 51-9-0 was only good enough for second, as his nearest rival on the Sycamore, Dave White (Maver) was some way behind him on 37-2-0 on the other point. Fourth went to John Francis (Rod & Gun) on 32-10-0 at Oak peg 1.

The week at Boldings started with a win for Eric Bancroft (R&G) who headed a trio of weights from the Hawthorn Pool. Drawn on peg 3, he tempted carp to 5lbs with pellet at 8metres, and established a 12lb advantage over second placed Frank Mountford (Wolverhampton) by scaling 43-10-0. Frank was on the opposite bank on peg 11 where pellet at 8 metres and to the island brought in 31-10-0. Ted Ecclestone (Stafford) slipped into third with 29-4-0 and fourth placed Colin Wozek (Donnington) had an Ash Pool best of 28-0-0.

The Sycamore Pool got the better of the Oak on Thursday, giving Alf Taylor (OB Wolves) victory at point peg 13. Alf fished pellet in the side and at 8 metres to attract carp to 6lbs for a 45-13-0 total. Carl Foster (OB Wolves) was on peg 3 on the same pool, and he too fished pellet, alternating between 11 metres and close in for 40-7-0.

An Oak best of 39-10-0 at peg 5 gave Steve Roberts (R&G) third and one fish behind him came Greg Willis (Oakengates Ang Cent) on 37-4-0 at oak peg 29.

New Willenhall rods Pete Ricketts and Keith Miller battled each other in the windy conditions for top spot on Saturday, with Pete winning from peg 33 on the Sycamore, ahead of Keith, on the Larch. Pete alternated 10 metre pole with waggler tactics, offering pellet on the pole and corn on the waggler, to end the day on 55-10-0.

Keith worked with corn at 8 metres on peg 11 on the Larch, finishing just over 5lbs adrift on 50-7-0. The remaining ‘framers’ were also on the Larch, Darren turner (Parks Hall) claiming third with 44-10-0, and Graham Roberts, on 41-15-0 making the frame for the second time.

SORRY ED, JUST SEEN THAT I DIDN’T SEND THIS ON WEDNESDAY.
