Boldings report

SPORTS DESK. 5/6/07

TON UP TIME AGAIN AT BOLDINGS.

All four opens at Boldings Pools this week were won with over 100lbs, with the fixture list climaxing on Sunday when the first three in the frame beat the barrier.

First ton up winner was Matt Stobbs (Rod & Gun) who put corn, maggot and caster to use at peg 14 on the Chestnut Pool to lure carp to 9lbs and bream to 3lbs close in for a winning total of 100-7-0.

On the other side of the Chestnut, at peg 36, Mick Jameson (Middy ML) offered pellet at 4 metres for another mix of carp and bream, to scale 77-10-0 which gave him second place. Third placed Andy Williams (Rod & Gun) headed the Sycamore card with 64-1-0 at peg 50 and fourth also came from the Sycamore when John Lewis (Tamworth Tackle) weighed in 60-2-0 at peg 35.

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) cruised to victory on Thursday after drawing peg 5 on the Beech Pool. He tackled it with a corn and pellet combination, and netted carp to 8lbs on his way to 112-14-0.

Behind Eric on the small peninsula was Adam Slade (Diawa Dorking) at corner peg 11, and he too fed with corn and maggot, but found smaller fish, with samples to 6lbs making up his second best 68-12-0.

An Ash Pool best of 66-3-0 at peg 18 saw John (Team Cudmore) finish one place better than his 4th of last Thursday, and birthday boy (hes officially a veteran now) Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) was 4th this time with 61-10-0 at Beech 29.

Backing weights were on the up at the week-end, but last Saturdays big winner Dave Brown (Maver Tipton) couldn’t expect to match the 163lbs which gave him victory then. He did beat the ton again though, with a Nelson in cricketing terms, 111lbs.

Dave drew peg 46 this time and used the caster and maggot method which stood him in such good stead last week, and once again it resulted in carp to 10lbs ending up in the net for a final tally of 111-13-0.

Martin Davenport (Phoenix) had a mix of carp and bream on the corn for 97-12-0 at Sycamore 13 to finish second, ahead of Bank Holiday winner Kevin Melville (Phoenix). He was on the Chestnut Pool and netted 78-15-0 at peg 30, to hold off Paul Cartwright (OB Wolves) on 70-14-0 at peg 14 on the same pool.

When Sunday came around the fish were well into feeding mode, and 112lbs was only good enough for third place. Duncan Newton (WB Clarke) led a trio of tons with 147-10-0 from Sycamore 25, the peg which gave Dave Brown him top weight of the year last week. Caster was the winning bait combo again, helping Duncan to net carp to 9lbs and bream to 4lbs.

Dave Brown put another big weight on the scales, an Oak Pool best of 126-10-0 to finish second on the day. That gives him an average of 134lbs over the three matches.

John Newton (WB Clarke) made it successful day for the Newton household with a third best 112-1-0 from Oak 22. Best on the Chestnut was Mick Thompson (Wolves) on 79—14-0 at peg 28.
