Boldings report    1-2-17.

It was slow going for some in the cold and dank conditions in the Monday open at Boldings Pools, but Owen Boswell [ABC/Mosella] got carp and bream feeding to the tune of 45-0-0 at peg 7 on the Beech Pool. Maggot and pellet at 13 metres found fish to 4lbs and 2lbs respectively to give Owen a clear victory.

Simon Richardson [Maver] had fish of a similar stamp on maggot at 12 metres from peg 23, opposite the winner, but his catch rate was a good deal slower, which left him some way off the pace on 23-3-0. Third went to Keith Powell [PI Boldings] at peg 5, where he netted 20-5-0.

Dave Brown [Maver] took over the top spot on Wednesday, winning from peg 18 on the Beech. Maggot and pellet did the trick again, and it was another mix of carp to 4lbs and bream to 2lbs which constituted the 32-6-0 which put Dave in charge.

Second came from the Ash Pool when a net of carp to 4lbs, caught on maggot at 8 metres gave Mick Jameson [PI Bold] a return of 24-8-0 at peg 18. Nick Cooper [PI Bold] weighed in 22-10-0 at Beech 15 to finish third, and peg 7 was in the frame again with a fourth placed 19-13-0 for Phil Rhodes.

Stuart Aston [Swan] obliterated the opposition on Thursday with a weight approaching three times that of his nearest rivals. Pegged on number 10 on the Chestnut Pool, Stuart shunned the favourite bait of the moment, maggot, and bagged carp to 6lbs and bream to 3lbs using corn at 10 metres. A steady supply of fish helped to pass the 60lbs mark, to give a closing total was 62-11-0.

On the other side of the pool, at peg 32, Tony Woolaston [Fatty's] had carp and bream to 3lbs and 2lbs on maggot at 12 metres to finish a distant second on 24-8-0. Three pegs along from the winner Terry Edwards [Swan Elite] was a close third on 23-6-0 at peg 13, and down at peg 7 Andy Jenkins [Swan Elite] finished within four ounces of third with his 23-2-0.

Saturday saw maggot back at the top of the bait list when the low number pegs on the Chestnut again gave the best weights. Mat Stobbs [Oakengates Ang Cent] took full advantage of a draw in that area, to win with 50-12-0 from peg 5. Matt worked at 13 metres to snare carp to 6lbs as he put together his winner.

Ken Humphries was along at peg 9 and had carp, roach and skimmers on maggot at 12 metres for a runner up 33-5-0. Peg 32 featured again, giving Steve Owen [Monkhall] 30-12-0 for third, while the Sycamore top catch of 21-10-0 from peg 33 gave fourth to Mark Stevens [Stevens Tackle].
