report

Boldings Pools were back in action this week, with a full programme of opens after a short break for a family wedding.

First up was the Monday open, which went the way of Mick Keene [ABC] who recorded a fairly emphatic win at Beech peg 26. Using maggot at 10 metres helped Mick to entice carp to 5lbs into the swim, which added up to a final weight of 55-3-0.

Round at peg 18 Dave Doughty [Woodend] worked with maggot at 8 metres for a catch of carp to 4lbs totaling 31-14-0, which put him into second. Nick Cooper [PI Boldings] took third when he weighed 24-9-0 at peg 7, and just behind him, on 24-3-0, was Stefan Davies [Shrewsbury] at peg 11.

Steve Owen [Monkhall] has enjoyed a good deal of success at Boldings in the past couple of months , and added two more wins to his list this week, the first of which came in the Wednesday open on the Sycamore Pool. Drawn on peg 25, Steve decided on a corn approach, and was rewarded with a mixture of carp and barbel, which came from the 12 metre line. Samples to 5lbs and 3lbs respectively, came to the net to give a final tally of 66-7-0.

Up at point peg 8 Steve Hall [Oswestry] alternated between the 8 metre and 12 metre lines to present his maggot bait, which brought 49-1-0 of carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs to the scales. Some way behind the runner up was Dave Going [Poets] who took third with 23-12-0 from peg 39, and close behind him, on 23-1-0 at peg 48 was Tony Foster [PI Bold].

Stefan Davies followed up his fourth place on Monday with a win on Thursday when he finished one fish ahead of Mick Jameson [PI Bold]. Stef was on Chestnut peg 7 and operated with shallow fished maggot at 12 metres to attract carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs, to end the day on 44-2-0.

Almost opposite the winner, at peg 32, Mick had all carp in the 4lbs range on maggot at 10 metres, to fall just short on 42-1-0. Mick Keene and Dave Doughty both framed again, Mick picking up third with his Oak Pool top weight of 30-1-0 at peg 4 and Dave was fourth with another Oak Pool weight, 27-8-0 from peg 31.

The same pegs which gave first and second on the Thursday match, did so again on Saturday, with Chestnut 7 giving the top weight of the week.

Mark Stevens [Stevens Tackle] drew the peg this time, and found that bigger fish had moved in, which helped to boost his figures to 85-15-0. Carp to 6lbs and bream to 3lbs put in an appearance to snap up Mark's maggot bait, which he presented at 8 metres and 12 metres.

Carp to 4lbs still occupied peg 32, and they were less inclined to feed, leaving Dave Cole [Bronx] trailing some way behind the winner on 36-12-0. Russ Allen [Oswestry] picked up third at peg 30, where he weighed 32-1-0 and at peg 4 Dave Pritchard [PI Bold] had 28-14-0 in fourth.

Steve Owen secured his second winner's purse of the week when he topped the Sunday card from Chestnut peg 6. Opting for a maggot attack this time, Steve picked off carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs on the 12 metre line, to finish on 37-14-0.

Chestnut 32 featured again, with another runner up weight, this time for Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] who managed to find some bream to go with the carp, but not enough to quite keep up with the winner, and ended the day on 31-8-0. Chris Jones [Crewe] led the way on the Sycamore to finish third overall on 29-2-0 at peg 22, and back on the Chestnut, Brian Mathews [Telford] scaled 25-4-0 at peg 13 to pick up fourth.
