Boldings report    20-4-16.

What a week at Boldings this week, where the lowest winning weight was only 6.5lbs short of the 100lb mark, and the top one was less than 10lbs short of 200lbs.

It was on the on the Monday open when Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] posted 93-8-0 to claim the winner's purse. Point peg 8 on the Sycamore was the scene of Bob's victory, where carp to 6lbs joined bream to 2lbs in snapping up his bread bait, which he worked to each side of the point.

Shallow caster did the business for Chris Holmes [Middle Severn Angling] at peg 32 on the Chestnut, bringing in an all carp 87-3-0, which featured fish to 5lbs. Opposite Chris at peg 13, Mitch Robinson [Wigan] was less than half a pound behind on 86-12-0 and Colin Reynolds Bilston Ang Cent] wasn't far behind him with his 80-11-0 at Sycamore 24.

The best of the week came on Wednesday and once again it was Dave Brown [Maver] who made the big haul to maintain his hot form.

Last time out Dave used maggot and bread on the Sycamore Pool, this time he was on the Oak and combined caster and maggot to fish in the side at peg 22, where carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs were eager to snap up the bait. At the end of a busy match, the scales had their work cut out to record a huge 190-9-0.

On the opposite bank, at peg 18 Graham Palmer [PI Boldings] was another busy angler, netting carp to 6lbs which he caught on bread and maggot close in. He couldn't match the winner, but managed 125-9-0 for second. On the Ash Pool Gary Marland [Wigan] and fellow Wigan rod Mitch Robinson  fought a close battle for third, with Gary edging it by 102-15-0 to 101-0-0.

What a result Thursday gave. Alun Jones [Drennan] won with 177-12-0 but only had 9 ounces to spare over runner up Paul Evans [PI Bold].

Alun fished across to the far bank and down the inside line at corner peg 8 on the Willows Pool, using maggot and pellet to locate carp to 8lbs and barbel up to 5lbs.

Up in the top corner at peg 22 Paul also had some of the bigger barbel, with fish to 5lbs, but his carp ran a bit smaller than those of the winner,  with samples to 7lbs leaving him just shy of the target on 177-3-0. Darren Warden [Kings] kept the frame average up with 134-14-0 for third at Willows peg 19, while the best weight from the Chestnut, 124-1-0 from peg 30 gave another fourth placing to Colin Reynolds.

The northerly wind on Saturday brought with a drop in temperatures and a consequent drop in weights generally, but Paul Wheeler [PI Bold] managed a big ton from Sycamore peg 30 to warm himself up, and low temperatures or not, he caught up in the water on caster and maggot. The bream were absent from the peg on the day and Paul won with an all carp net of fish to 6lbs which gave a total of 126-4-0.

Shallow maggot rotated with corn and pellet in the margins helped Andy Kyte [Mid Severn Ang] to second place at Sycamore 21, where carp to 7lns and bream to 3lbs returned 88-3-0. Across on the long bank, Dave Craggs [PI Bold] collected third thanks to 76-3-0 at peg 33, and fourth came from peg 1 where Mick Jameson [PI Bold] weighed in 57-2-0.

Sunday honours were bagged by Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] from peg 32 on the Beech Pool, which gave a fine mix of carp to 8lbs, bream to 2lbs and quite a few good roach. All of the catch came from  close in, and fell to maggot. At the weigh in Andy was awarded 146-3-0, which gave a winning margin of 24lbs.

Dave Brown featured in the frame again, adding a second place to his big mid-week win. He was on Beech peg 7 and switched between shallow tactics in open water and working his maggot and caster bait close in, and netted carp to 6lbs to end the day on 122-12-0. A level 96-0-0 from Beech 5 secured third for Rob Lloyd [Maver], while an Ash Pool top score of 91-7-0 saw Saturday's winner Paul Wheeler into fourth.
