Boldings report

Boldings report    21-10-15.

This week at Boldings Pools there were double wins for Jordan Hall [Middy] and Steve Hall [Oswestry] and a third place treble from Steve Owen [Monkhall].

Jordan Hall kicked things off with the top weight of the week to win on Monday from peg 47 on the Sycamore. Presenting caster, shallow in open water as well as close in to the bank produced a mix of carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs which gave a level 116-0-0.

Last Mondays winner Phil Shaw [PI Boldings] collected the runner up prize this week by topping the Chestnut catches. He also worked with caster, fishing shallow at 14 metres on peg 18 to pick off carp to 5lbs on his way to 84-14-0. Steve Owen had the first of his three third place finishes when he scaled 82-13-0 at Sycamore 24, and at Sycamore 4 Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] netted 72-9-0 to pick up fourth.

Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] worked his way to the top of the card on Wednesday by offering maggot down the shelf at Peg 1 on the Middle Pool. A steady flow of carp to 5lbs ended up in the net, giving Bob figures of 76-1-0.

Stuart Aston [Swan] had the best weight from the Hawthorn to finish in second. His 64-4-0 came to pellet and corn, fished to the island from peg 5, where carp to 6lbs made up the catch. Hawthorn peg 1 gave Steve Owen his second frame finish of the week by producing 53-7-0, and at Middle peg 10 Dave Doughty [Woodend] had 40-6-0 for fourth.

Thursday saw Jordan Hall claim his second winners purse, and it was the Sycamore Pool again which gave him the win. This time he was on peg 4 where he alternated fishing shallow with on deck tactics using caster, to net carp and barbel to 5lbs and 3lbs for a total of 93-7-0.

Dave Brown [Maver] wasn’t far behind the winner with his Willows best of 87-13-0, which was made up with carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs, and came to maggot, fished down the shelf at peg 5. Steve Owen was there again, his 74-9-0 coming from Sycamore 21. Back on the Willows Steve Forest [Nottingham] completed the frame with 56-2-0 at peg 11.

Steve Hall (no relation the Jordan) took on the winners mantle on Saturday with the first leg of a week-end double. Peg 47 on the Sycamore produced the goods again, responding to caster, fished shallow, and on the deck at 12 metres. Steve mixed barbel with his carp to establish a big margin between himself and the runner up by weighing 97-6-0.

Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] was the man in second. He worked maggot down the shelf at Sycamore 18 for 58-7-0 of carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs. Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] was 3lbs behind second on 55-7-0 at Sycamore 24, while a Chestnut top weight of 43-15-0 from peg 32 handed fourth to Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent].

The margin was much tighter on Sunday when Dave Hailey [PI Bold] chased Steve Hall all the way to the whistle. At the end Steve got home with less than three pounds to spare, winning by 87-3-0 to 84-8-0. Both men fished shallow caster at 12 metres, Steve at Willows peg 12, where carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs made up the catch, and Dave at Willows peg 7, where he also had carp and barbel, but his carp ran a little smaller with fish to 5lbs.

Third fell to Graham Roberts [PI Bold] on 77-3-0 at peg 16 and at peg 5 Neil Hallett [PI Bold] had 73-10-0 in fourth.
