Boldings report

Boldings report    18-2-15.

The Monday open at Boldings Pools this week saw a new face at the top of the frame when Owen Boswell [Shrewsbury] finished a clear winner by posting 56-12-0 at peg 3 on the Middle Pool. Fishing into the corner, and at 8 metres, to offer maggot and pellet, put Owen in touch with carp in the 5lbs range.

On the Stock Pool, at peg 4, Alun Jones [Drennan NW] went out to 12 metres with maggot, which he also presented down the side at times to find carp to 4lbs, which he built a runner up 32-7-0 with. Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] was only two ounces off second when he put 32-5-0 on the scales for third at Middle peg 1, and opposite him at peg 11 Mick Foan [Rod & Gun] ended the day on 29-1-0 for fourth.

Jeff Harston [Tricast Weston] claimed the main prize on Wednesday by using a maggot and corn combination at 14 metres, as well as down the side at Sycamore peg 47. Carp to 6lbs obliged to give Jeff a successful total of 46-2-0.

Frank Mountford [Fiery Holes] used the same bait combo at corner peg 4, fishing into the corner and out at 10 metres. The fish at his peg were of a smaller stamp, carp to 4lbs, which left him some way short of the required weight on 33-5-0. Third came from peg 13 where Mick Jameson [PI Boldings] recoded 24-1-0.

Like last week, Thursday proved to be the hardest day, with both the Chestnut and Larch pools fishing well below par.

Of the two, the Chestnut turned out to be marginally better, giving the top two weights in what turned out to be an exciting frame. Terry Edwards [Kings] just edged ahead of the rest from peg 16 on the Chestnut, using maggot at 14 metres to pick off carp to 4lbs and skimmers to 1lbs, which gave a final tally of 25-14-0.

Up at peg 3 Keith Powell [PI Bold]had carp to 4lbs on maggot and pellet, presented at 12 metres, to net a level 25-0-0, which put him into second spot. Dave Doughty [Woodend] was close behind the top two with his Larch Pool best of 24-3-0 from peg 19, while a level 20-0-0 from peg 9 gave fourth to Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun].

Colin Reynolds second visit of the week to the prize table saw him collect the winners purse at the end of a close run Saturday open on the Sycamore, where three corner pegs filled the first three places.

Colin was on peg 6 and had carp and bream on pellet, which he worked at 10 metres for samples to 5lbs and 2lbs respectively. At the finish he had done enough to squeeze ahead of the field by just under a pound and a half with a final score of 47-7-0.

Keith Powell had to settle for another close second when he saw the scales settle at 46-1-0 at peg 50, where he had carp to 4lbs on maggot at 12 metres. Peg 4 gave Richard Davenport [Shrewsbury] 27-13-0 for third, and 19-8-0 from peg 45 put Chris Hill [Mosella] into fourth.

Sycamore peg 50 sprang to life on Sunday and match winner Clive Wynn [Tri West] was only one fish short of a 100lb winner. He was kept busy with carp to 3lbs snapping up his maggot bait, presented at 5 metres, and at the whistle his net held 98-7-0.

Peg 4 also fished a lot better than the previous day, producing 82-6-0 to maggot at 12 metres to hand second to Rob Lloyd [Browning Lifestyle]. Third went to Alan Naylor [Oakengates Ang Cent] at Sycamore 47 where he scaled 40-6-0 to beat the Willows best of 39-10-0 by Carl Westwood [Wolves].
