Boldings report

Boldings report    10-2-15.

Heaviest haul of the week at Boldings Pools fell to Richard Duke [Middle Severn Angling] at the start of the week. He headed the Monday open card from peg 11 on the Middle Pool by baiting with maggot on the 10 metre line and attracted carp to 5lbs which helped Richard to post 55-11-0.

Next door, at peg 10, Tony Foster [PI Boldings] worked pellet at 8 metres I an attempt to stay with the winner, but carp to 4lbs left him 10lbs short of the target on 45-15-0. Mick Jameson [PI Bold] was a further 10lbs adrift on 35-10-0 at peg 3, and at peg 1 Keith Powell [PI Bold] weighed in 28-11-0 to pick up fourth.

With the weather getting colder through the week weights dropped back and on Wednesday Tony Woolaston [Kings] was a clear winner with 37-10-0 from peg 5 on the Ash Pool. On the other side of the Ash, at peg 20 Chris Jones [Carp Crew] put his name on second by scaling 26-8-0.

Two close weights from the Stock Pool took the remaining prizes, with third going to the 21-11-0 from peg 11 recorded by Steve Owen [Monkhall] and just behind him on 21-4-0 at peg 2 was Tony Foster [PI Bold].

Things were very tight on Thursday, with only two ounces between first and second, then three ounces between third and fourth.

Terry Edwards [Kings] scraped home in first from peg 24 on the Oak where 21-3-0 was just enough to secure the top prize. Steve Owen improved on his previous days third place when he weighed 21-2-0 for second at Oak peg 16.

Third came from the Willows Pool when Colin Wozek [Vespe] recorded a pool best of 17-13-0 to pip John Bridgwood [Kings] whose 17-10-0 came from Oak peg 31.

Although it was icy heading into the week-end, weights began to climb and Steve Hall [Oswestry] notched up his second Saturday win on the trot by scaling 32-14-0 at Oak peg 29. The catch consisted of carp to 4lbs, which accepted maggot, fished at 10 metres and 14 metres.

Peg 1, on the end of the dam, yielded a level 29-0-0 to Nige Clarke [Monkhall] who, like the winner caught on maggot, which he presented at 12 metres, as well as in the side to net carp to 3lbs. 21-2-0 gave third to Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] and 16-1-0 put fourth prize into the hands of Phil Aston [PI Boldings].

The air temperature had risen a little on Sunday, but it didn’t feel much like it had, and the water temperature remained very low. That didn’t stop Dave Brown [Maver] from converting several recent near misses into a clear victory, as his Willows Pool best put him head of a trio of weights from the Ash Pool. Dave drew peg 5 on the Willows, which he tackled with 16 metre pole and maggot to bag 43-14-0, which was made up with carp to 5lbs.

At Ash peg 16 fellow Maver rod Sean Barber used the same tactics to net his runner up 32-3-0 of carp to 4lbs. Next to Sean, at peg 18 Alun Jones [Drennan NW] was a close third when he put 30-8-0 on the scales, and even closer behind him was Gareth Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent] on 29-11-0 at peg 5.
