Boldings report

Boldings report 10-12-14.

At Boldings Pools this week Beech Pool peg 7 threw up another Monday winner, this time for Colin Wozek [Matrix TA] who made the most of the peg by working maggot at 5 metres out from the point, as well as close in to the bank. Carp to 6lbs moved in on the bait, and by the final whistle Colin had slipped the net under 77-9-0.

Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] finished in the runner up spot for the second successive Monday, and like last week he did it with an Oak Pool top weight. He was on the end of the dam at peg 1 and was only one fish off victory with 72-1-0. Third also came from the Oak when Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] recorded 64-2-0 at peg 29, and back on the Beech Phil Rhodes [PI Boldings] completed the frame with 49-9-0 at peg 5.

The Oak Pool proved much harder on Wednesday, when peg 1 was the top peg again, giving Stuart Aston [Swan] a 32-4-0 winner. His catch came to pellet at 4 and 8 metres, and consisted of carp in the 3lbs bracket.

Up at the other end of the pool Pete Ricketts [New Willenhall] caught on pellet at 10 metres to finish second on 26-6-0, and peg 31 gave Mick Jameson [PI Bold] third with 22-4-0.

The Thursday winning weight was nearly three times that of Wednesday when peg 16 the Larch Pool yielded 94-14-0 for Dave Going [SMG]. Going out to 12 metres with pellet put Dave in contact with carp to 7lbs and he eased to a 31lb advantage over runner up Andy Jenkins [Pool Hayes]. He was up at peg 6 and combined pellet and maggot at 14 metres to net 63-15-0 of carp to 6lbs.

Over on the other side of the pool, at peg 26 Dave Mortlock [Kings] wasn’t far behind on 59-1-0 in third, and Mick Jameson had another fourth when he scaled 57-12-0 at peg 14.

Top weight of the week came from the Willows Pool on Saturday when peg 5 responded to the shallow pellet approach of Steve Hall [Oswestry]  to see him beat the previous days best by just over a pound. Carp up to 6lbs attacked the bait to give a haul of 95-15-0.

Colin Reynolds had another runner up finish when he put a mix of carp to 5lbs and barbel to 3lbs on the scales at Willows peg8. He caught on pellet, fished at 8 metres and across to the far bank. Pete Ricketts added a third place to his earlier second by posting a Larch Pool top weight of 45-11-0 at peg 22, with Alan Naylor [Oakengates Ang Cent] close behind on 43-0-0 at Willows peg 13.

The fish were a little less responsive in the lower temperatures on Sunday and just under 50lbs gave Sean Barber [Maver] top spot at Chestnut peg 28. Presenting pellet close to the island and along the nearside bank brought a mixture of carp to 6lbs and bream to 2lbs totalling 49-4-0 to the scales for Sean.

Round at peg 16 Joe Brennan [PI Bold] used the same bait combo to fish at 12 metres and close in, and he too had carp and bream, but his carp ran a little smaller than those of the winner, with fish to 5lbs, which left him just shy of the target on 45-11-0.

On the opposite side of the island to the winner Howard Williams [Tricast Weston] claimed third with 39-10-0, just ahead of Paul Roberts [PI Bold] on 38-0-0 at peg 30.
