Boldings report

Boldings report 11-11-14.

Anglers around the county faced a typical mix of autumnal weather last week, with high winds, heavy rain, some frost and the occasional bright spell combining to cause fluctuating temperatures, which in turn affected the feeding patterns of the fish.

Like the temperature, weights at Boldings Pools varied, with the biggest difference coming on Monday when the winning weight was two and a half times that of the fourth placed catch.

Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] was the man who claimed the winners purse, having a catch of carp in the 1lb to 4lb bracket totalling 81-6-0. He was on peg 18 on the Oak, and fished pellet at 4 metres, as well as close into the bank.

Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] fished pretty much the same tactics at peg 13, and had fish of a similar size in his runner up 46-7-0. Last weeks winner Danny Boden [Oakengates Ang Cent] picked up third from the other side of the island to the winner, peg 22, where he scaled 42-4-0, with fourth going to Carl Foster [PI Boldings] who had 33-12-0 at peg 15.

The winning weight was lower on Wednesday when the Beech Pool was used, but the back up nets were very similar. Alun Jones [Tricast Weston] took the honours on this one, winning from point peg 7, where carp to 5lbs and skimmers to 1lb added up to 59-14-0. Alun caught on corn, worked to each side of the point and out at 5 metres.

Opposite the point at peg 23 Nathan Spain [Matrix TA] fed pellet and corn, close in and at 4 metres for an all carp 48-3-0, which consisted of fish to 4lbs. Round at peg 16 Howard Williams [Wrexham] put his name on third with 42-7-0, and 33-11-0 from peg 20 gave fourth to Dave Matson [Rod & Gun].

Dave Brown [Maver Midlands] had the first of two wins, and his second Thursday success on the trot after he drew peg 2 on the Stock Pool on Thursday. Carp to 6lbs responded to his caster and pellet, offered at 8 metres and down the side, to return 62-5-0.

On the Deepdale Pool, at peg 11, Andy Jenkins PI Bold] had carp to 4lbs on pellet and corn to finish second on 50-4-0. back on the Stock, 47-15-0 from peg 6 handed third to Phil Rhodes [PI Bold] and fourth went to 43-10-0 by Terry Edwards [Kings] at Deepdale 3.

Saturday saw a close finish on the Chestnut when Dave Brown finished top of the list again. He switched to a maggot attack at peg 32, where a mix of carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs gave figures of 44-3-0.

At peg 4 Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] finished one fish short of the mark with a net of carp from 1lb to 4lbs on pellet and corn weighing 42-10-0. Close behind Andy was Ken Humphreys [Oswestry] on 40-13-0 at peg 2, and at peg 7 Kevin Melville [Matrix TA] had 35-12-0 in fourth.

Dave Hailey [PI Bold] was a clear winner on Sunday, when he finished ahead of a close fight for the remaining places. Drawn peg 16 on the Willows, Dave used maggot, pellet and corn to keep his fish interested, and included barbel to 4lbs with carp to 6lbs in a net of 89-4-0.

Oak peg 22 featured again, providing second this time. Dave Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] fished to the island and along the bank with maggot to attract carp to 6lbs for a total of 58-7-0, which just put him ahead of Jamie Potts [PI Bold] at Willows peg 9, where he scaled 57-11-0. Next door, at peg 8 Nigel Ball [Wolves] finished off the weeks frames with 55-13-0.
