Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  8-10-13.

There was almost a full set of different names in the frames at Boldings Pools this week, with only four anglers featuring for the second time and none of last weeks winners getting a place this week.

Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] was the first of the new batch to post a winner, recording the best weight of the week, 119-6-0, to claim the laurels on Monday. He was on Sycamore 47, and worked at 6 metres and close in with pellet and maggot to find carp to 8lbs.

Phil Shaw [Lower Hill] filled second and had the top weight from the Chestnut 91-2-0 from peg 13. He fished pellet and maggot up in the water and down the side for a mixed net of carp to 6lbs and bream to 2lbs.

Third also came from the Chestnut when Dave Craggs [Maver Midlands] weighed 83-2-0 at peg 32, then it was back to the Sycamore for the first of last weeks ‘framers’ to make the list again. Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] picked up fourth for his 81-3-0 from peg 8.

Weights dipped on Wednesday on the Beech Pool and Darren Cook [PI Boldings] claimed the coin with 60-10-0 of carp to 5lbs, caught on maggot at 6 metres at peg 18.

Stuart Aston [Swan] was on point peg 7 where corn and pellet to each side produced carp to 7lbs for 54-1-0 to fill second. Ken Humphreys [ABC/Oswestry] had 49-8-0 for third from peg 32 and at peg 23 Jack O’Sullivan [Oakengates Ang Cent] grabbed 4th with 41-9-0.

Only 7 ounces separated first and second on Thursday when Willows peg 14 saw Mark Taylor [Shakespeare] scrape home by the narrow margin.           Pellet at 13 metres induced carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs to feed, and at the whistle, gave a total of 104-13-0.

At peg 24 on the Sycamore, Pete Butler [Snead AC] picked off carp to 7lbs with bream to 2lbs using pellet at 5 metres and close in but was just short of the target on 104-6-0 at the finish. Sycamore 47 featured again, giving Paul Evans [PI Bold] 96-11-0 for third, and another Willows weight took 4th with Phil Rhodes [PI Bold] having a level 89-0-0.

Weights took another dip on Saturday when 62-7-0 saw Dave Matson [Rod & Gun] home at Stock Pool peg 10. Maggot and corn, close in and at 5 metres put carp to 5lbs in the net for Dave.

Second was closely contested between Steve Davies [O’gates Ang] and Carl Foster [PI Bold] with Steve squeezing Carl out by 3 ounces when he scaled 45-4-0 to Carl’s 45-1-0.

Mark Taylor grabbed his second win of the week on Sunday, but it was a close run thing. He was drawn on Sycamore 24 and fished shallow pellet on the long pole, combined with the 5 metre line at depth for a 118-1-0 haul of carp to 8lbs and bream to 2lbs.

At peg 4 on the Chestnut [Andy Kyte [Maver Sonubaits] had bigger fish, with carp to 9lbs and barbel to 3lbs falling to maggot close in and at 5 metres, but when the finish came he was a pound behind on 117-1-0. Gareth Emlyn [O’gates Ang] made it three tons in the frame when he scaled 105-12-0 at Chestnut 32, while an Oak Pool top weight of 98-1-0 handed fourth to Shane Rogers [O’gates Ang] at peg 29.
