Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  6-8-13.

Josh Humphries [ABC] has really got to grips with things at Boldings Pools lately and put in four frame appearances this week, recording two close second placings, a fourth and a clear victory.

He was involved in a peg to peg battle with Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] on Monday, a battle which Eric won from peg 7 on the Beech Pool, where he opted to fish paste to each side of the point, to target carp to 8lbs. Netting fish at regular intervals saw Eric put together the top weight of the week, 157-11-0.

Just round from the point at peg 5, Josh worked close in with a maggot and corn combination, and matched the winner fish for fish, but slightly smaller samples, fish to 7lbs, left him 4lbs short of the target on 153-15-0.

Opposite the winner, on peg 23, Keith Miller [New Willenhall] wasn’t far behind the top two with 141-6-0 in third, and fourth came from opposite the runner up when Godfrey Wood [Matrix Total Angling] weighed in 126-3-0 at peg 32.

It was Matt Stobbs [Oakengates Ang Cent] who squeezed Humphries out on Wednesday on the Sycamore Pool. Fishing with his back to the Willows Pool at Sycamore 45, Matt found carp to 8lbs and barbel to 3lbs willing to have a go at his corn and maggot feed to put 106-4-0 on the scales.

Josh corner peg 6, and for the second time, a smaller stamp of fish kept him just behind the winner. He worked with shallow pellet to net a mix of carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs to finish with a level 99-0-0.

Third came from point peg 13 where Jeff Harston [Tricast Weston] had 83-8-0 and at peg 24 dave Matson [Rod & Gun] had 65-3-0 in fourth.

Humphries and Stobbs exchanged places on Thursday when Josh had the bigger fish and finished well ahead with 140-14-0 from Beech peg 32. Switching between shallow pellet in open water and close in on maggot and corn, resulted in carp to 9lbs finding themselves in the net.

Matt was on Willows peg 19 and had carp to 7lbs, accompanied by barbel to 3lbs, close in maggot for a total of 96-3-0. Third went to an Ash Pool best of 84-3-0 by Mick Jameson [PI Boldings] at peg 3, and back on the Willows Jeff Harston framed for the second time, his 81-2-0 giving him fourth this time.

The Willows provided the winner on Saturday when Paul Wheeler [PI Bold] used shallow pellet tactics, combined with regular visits to the inside line, to net a level 93-0-0 of carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs at peg 7, to finish just one and half pounds ahead of Dave Craggs [Maver Midlands]. Dave was on the Larch Pool at peg 26 where shallow caster found carp to 7lbs with bream to 3lbs for a return of 91-8-0.

Colin Reynolds [Bilston AC] was on Willows peg 9 where 85-4-0 put him into third, and Josh Humphries completed his successful week by scaling 79-8-0 for fourth at Willows 16.

The week finished as it started, with an all ‘ton’ frame on the Sunday open, and the Willows gave the winning catch again. Scott Doodson [Preston Innov] made it two Sunday wins on the trot by concentrating on a shallow pellet attack at peg 8, to ease ahead of the field with a haul of carp to 6lbs which gave him final figures of 144-3-0.

On the Sycamore, Steve Roberts [Oak Ang Cent] fished to both sides of peg 48 with corn and maggot to net a mix of carp and barbel weighing 123-11-0, which gave him the runner up prize. Two more Oakengates rods filled the remaining places, Kel Emlyn took away third thanks to 119-11-0 from Willows peg 5 and Steve Giles had 114-7-0 to pick up fourth at Sycamore 34.
