BOLDINGS REPORT  9-1-13

Eric Bancroft [Rod& Gun] saw the old year out at Boldings with a win on New Years Eve when he finished well ahead of the rest with a net of carp to 6lbs totaling 81-4-0. Pegged on the Middle Pool at peg 8, Eric enticed his fish with maggot at 8 metres and down the side.

In the corner of the Deepdale at peg 7, Tony Woolaston [Ind] fed maggot and pellet at 10 metres and into the corner to take his 56-3-0 runner up bag. Third fell to Sean Barber [Maver Midlands] at Middle peg 3, where he weighed in 38-14-0 to just beat the Hawthorn best of 37-7-0 by Scott Doodson [Preston Innov].

Gary Morris [PI Boldings] became the first winner of 2013 when he scored a narrow victory on the New Years Day open. Carp to 4lbs and barbel to 3lbs were attracted to his pellet feed on the 8 metre line at peg 30 on the Chestnut to give figures of 32-1-0.

Over at Larch peg 22 Steve Owen [Mid Leisure] went out to 12 metres with maggot to find his fish, carp to 4lbs and bream to 2lbs, but at the whistle he was one fish short of top spot, with the scales settling on 31-8-0.

Close behind Steve was Dave Bowater [PI Bold] on 29-14-0 at Chestnut 16 and even closer behind him was Richard Duke [BAS] with 29-1-0 at Chestnut 21.

Tony Moreton [Preston Innov] took the winners pot on Wednesday using pellet and maggot at 10 metres to net 47-6-0 of carp to 4lbs at peg 13 on the Hawthorn Pool.

Next to Tony, at peg 11, Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] used the same bait combination, fished to the island, but smaller fish, samples to 3lbs, left him on 41-2-0.

Matt Stobbs [Oakengates Ang Cent] was top catcher on the Deepdale with 25-12-0 for third overall, with Gary Morris framing again with 25-6-0 from Hawthorn peg 1.

Thursday saw another close finish when Rob Hancox [Shortheath Starlets] stood between Gary Morris and a second victory. Rob fished maggot in the side at Sycamore 47 and had carp from 1lb to 3lbs, which added up to 53-14-0. At peg 49 Gary had bigger fish, up to 5lbs, on pellet at 8 metres and in the corner, but not quite enough of them, and he finished on 52-6-0.

Matt Stockton [ Maver Midlands] topped the Chestnut list with 45-4-0 and Shane Rogers [Oak Ang Cent] had a Beech best of 40-4-0.

Clive Wynn improved on his Wednesday runner up to pick up the winners purse on Saturday, when peg 49 on the Sycamore featured again. Clive opted for maggot at 12 metres and in the corner, and this time bream as well as carp put in an appearance for a weight of 71-7-0.

At peg 4 barbel to 3lbs showed up, in addition to carp to 5lbs, giving Keith Powell [PI Bold] 67-7-0 for second. Third man Nige Clarke [PI Bold] had his 62-10-0 from Chestnut peg 16, and back on the Sycamore Wayne Mellings [Maver Midlands] had 48-6-0 from peg 13 to pip Steve Roberts (Oak Ang Cent] to 4th. Steve had top weight from the Larch, 48-5-0.

With the milder weather at the week-end, Sunday saw the top weight of the week, and it came from the Sycamore. Chris Holmes [Middle Severn Angling] drew peg 5, not really a regular winner, but his maggot at 14 metres approach did the trick on the day, producing 87-9-0 of carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs.

Sycamore 49 featured for the third time on the trot when carp to 7lbs and barbel to 3lbs responded to pellet at 14 metres to give Chris Jones [Carp Crew] 64-5-0 for second. Tony Moreton made the frame again via a Larch Pool best of 52-1-0, Kye Faulkener [Telford] was just behind Tony on 51-7-0 at Sycamore 47, with Andy Newton [Maver] best on the Ash with 51-2-0.
