Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  7-3-12.

The most consistent Monday winner of last year at Boldings Pools was Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) and it didn’t take him long to get going on the restarted Affordable series this year, winning last Monday by a thirty pound margin. He drew peg 5 on the Hawthorn Pool and fished pellet to the island to pick off carp to 6lbs to build a 79-1-0 top weight.

At peg 3 on the Middle Pool Eric Bancroft (Rod &Gun) took the best of three close weights which filled the rest of the frame. He offered maggot and pellet down the side and at 8 metres for 49-3-0 of carp to 5lbs. Carl Foster (PI Boldings) netted 48-8-0 at Hawthorn peg 11 for third and at Middle peg 8 Andy Williams (Vespe) had 47-13-0 in 4th place.

Clive Wynn (Tricast Weston) is on hot form at Boldings and followed up a double win last with a triple top this week, starting with victory on the Wednesday open, when he drew peg 23 on the Chestnut Pool and fished pellet and corn to the island for a total of 75-11-0 of carp in the 1lb to 7lb range.                                                                                                     At peg 32 on the same pool Tony Foster (PI Boldings) kept his run of results going with a runner up 64-0-0. He caught on pellet fished to each side of the peg, and netted carp to 6lbs and bream to 3lbs. Dave Cole (PI Bold) was best on the Sycamore to take third overall with 51-8-0 at peg 48 and at Sycamore 16 Keith Powell (PI Bold) had 44-5-0 in 4th.

The second of Clive’s three wins came on Thursday and for the second week running he recorded the top weight of the week. This time he drew peg 14 on the Ash and fished pellet close in and at 10 metres, to find carp to 5lbs. By the end of the match he had dropped 82-14-0 into his net to win by 20lbs.

Eric Bancroft collected his second runner up prize by taking top weight from the Beech Pool. He was on peg 16 and had carp to 7lbs on maggot close in and pellet at 6 metres to total 62-15-0. Steve Hall (Oswestry) was a close third at Ash 3 where he scaled 62-11-0 and Andy Williams had another 4th by weighing 57-4-0 at Ash 29.

Saturday saw Wynn top the list again when he drew close to the island on the Chestnut Pool again and employed the same tactics which were successful on Wednesday, pellet and corn to the side of the island, but also took a few fish from the nearside margins, with samples to 6lbs adding up to 62-1-0.

On the Larch Pool Scott Doodson (Preston Innov) landed 52-7-0 at peg 24 to fill second spot. Colin Reynolds was back in the frame with a Sycamore best of 51-6-0 from peg 44 and back on the Larch Jamie Langford (Maver) had 48-13-0 at peg 15 to fill 4th place.

John Wild (Stafford) won the final match of the week, which produced the closest finish, but he had to overcome a carp of 23-4-0 to do it. The big fish picked up Johns pellet bait at peg 5 on the Beech and when it was finally landed, it pushed his final weight to 80-5-0.

Shane Rogers (Oakengates Ang Cent) would have been a fairly comfortable winner but for Wilds ‘lump’, as he netted 78-9-0 of carp to 5lbs and barbel to 2lbs using maggot at 14 metres at peg 30 on the Chestnut.

Clive Wynn completed a memorable week with a third place when he scaled 62-8-0 at Beech 7, which gave him a week-end total of ten Preston points.

Gareth Emlyn (oak Ang Cent) completed things with 60-4-0 for 4th at Chestnut 32.
