Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  5/4/11.

Andy Williams (Vespe) had another first class week at Boldings Pools, adding a week-end double to his portfolio, while Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) had a mid-week first and fourth, with Gary Morris OB Wolves) having a mid-week win and a week-end pool best.

Colin Wozak (Telford) was the first winner of a week which saw big variations in temperatures from day to day. He won a cold Monday open on the Sycamore when pellet at 6 metres and close in at peg 36 found carp to 5lbs and barbel to 1lb for a total of 63-2-0.

Harry Colley (OB Wolves) fished meat and pellet at peg 49 to keep pace with the winner for most of the match, ending with carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs for 58-9-0. Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) had a level 51-0-0 fro third at peg 24 and Colin Reynolds collected his 4th prize for 47-1-0 at peg 46.

It was cooler still on Wednesday on the Chestnut Pool when Gary Morris scored his win by fishing to the island and into the channel with pellet at peg 28 for a mix of carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs for 44-7-0.

Just round the point at peg 32 Jeff Harston (Weston Pools) employed the pole at 12 metres to offer pellet, and he too had a mix of carp and bream for his runner-up 40-2-0.

In between the top two, Pete Moss (Rod & Gun) had 33-13-0 for third at peg 30 and at 35 Tony Foster (OBW) had 31-6-0 in 4th.

Weights shot up on Thursday when Colin Reynolds was back in the frame with his winner. His was the top score of the week when the scales went round to 106-6-0 at Chestnut peg 37. The catch was made up with carp to 9lbs which fell to pellet and corn fished at 6 metres and in the side.

Over on the Sycamore Eric Bancroft (R&G) had carp and bream feeding on his maggot fished in the edge, alternated with pellet at 5 metres, and he finished a close second on 102-13-0 at peg 13.

Third was picked by Ed Turner (OBW) who netted 80-9-0 at Sycamore 46, and in fourth was Brian Clarke (Marukyu) on 79-5-0 at Chestnut 30.

Andy Williams began his week-end assault on Saturday when maggot and corn, fished close in at peg 11 on the Sycamore tempted carp to 9lbs and bream to 3lbs and at the finish Andy had dropped 90-8-0 into his nets.

At peg 26 on the Chestnut Tim Probert (OBW) had mainly small carp, with the odd bonus fish of around 5lbs, fishing to the island with pellet, and it was the bonus fish which just squeezed him ahead of Elliott Johnson ((R&G) at Sycamore 24. The scales recorded 78-7-0 for Tim, with Elliott seeing them stop at 77-2-0. Sycamore 13 was in the frame again when Ted Ecclestone (Stafford) handed over 70-6-0 for 4th.

The Sunday open saw the closest finish of the week, with only 8 ounces separating Andy Williams and Dave Hailey (OBW) on the Sycamore.

Andy operated with maggot and corn again, this time switching between the 5 metre line and in the margins at peg 33. The response to his tactics came from carp to 9lbs, bream to 3lbs and barbel to the pound mark, which all added up to 100-4-0.

On the opposite side of the pool at peg 24, Dave presented pellet at 6 metres and in the edge, and had carp and bream of a similar size to the fish Andy was netting in a neck to neck race for the winners purse, which he just missed out on when his total came to 99-12-0.

Eric Bancroft was in the prize list again, picking up third with his 89-4-0 from Sycamore 13, with another Rod & Gun man, John Francis, 4th on 80-12-0 at Sycamore 6.

Gary Morris topped the Willows list with 79-4-0 from peg 14 and Richard Lawson (Maver) was best on the Larch with 78-13-0 form peg 1.
