Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT 9-12-09

At Boldings the frame average was better than 38.5lbs per angler over the five matches, an excellent winter return, and four of the matches gave close finishes.

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) made it two Monday wins on the trot by claiming first place in a tight frame on the Chestnut. Pegged by the island on number 26, Eric fished to the island with pellet to attract carp to 5lbs on his way to 42-7-0.

Round the corner at peg 24 Monday frame regular Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) pushed Eric to the whistle, taking carp to 4lbs on pellet, fished in the side, for 40-3-0, with Harry Colley (OB Wolves) picking up third with 32-4-0 at peg 28.

Things were even closer on Wednesday when Karl Haywood (Sedgeley) had less than a pound to spare over Andy Williams (Vespe). Both were on the Middle Pool, Karl on peg one and Andy on peg 5. Karl fished pellet and maggot, taking fish close in and at 5 metres, with carp to 6lbs taking his figures to 37-7-0. Andy fished maggot into the corner, and had carp to 4lbs in his 36-11-0 runner up.

Top man on the Hawthorn was Keith Miller (OBW) who was third overall with his 32-7-0, and back on the Middle, Alan Jones (Deggys) had 30-1-0 in 4th.

Only six ounces separated the top two on Thursday when Stuart Aston (Swan JT) just made it to the top of the match card. He was on Beech peg 20 where pellet, fished to the paddles and out at 5metres, brought in carp to 6lbs to help to a total of 40-11-0.

On the Oak, at peg 27, John Wild (Stafford) fished pellet to the stumps, and had carp to 4lbs, which left him just short of the winner on 40-5-0. Ian Hodson (Swan JT) had 35-7-0 from Beech 16 for third and Carl Foster (OBW) finished things off with 31-10-0 from Beech 26.

There was a difference of less than a pound again on Saturday, with the Chestnut providing another close finish. Tim Probert (OBW) was the man to edge in front this time, and it was a peg on the other side of the island peg which came up with the goods, peg 21. A corn and pellet approach kept Tim busy with carp to 3lbs, and at the whistle he had 44-9-0 in the net.

Over at peg 10 Ted Ecclestone was even busier, catching carp to 1lb, on pellet at 10 metres to finish a close second on 43-14-0. Josh Humphries (Morgans) wasn’t far away with 39-7-0 for third at peg 26, and Tony Foster (OBW) took over 4th from Carl with 34-0-0 at peg 30.

Best weight came on Sunday and hawthorn peg 3 featured again, filling first place this time after Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) put pellet to use at 10 metres for a haul of carp to 5lbs scaling 59-11-0.

Keith Miller framed for the second time, putting a Beech best of 45-9-0 on the scales at peg 7. Keith caught on corn and pellet at 6 metres, and opposite him at peg 23 Gary Morris (OBW) finished a couple of pounds behind on 43-5-0. Back on the Hawthorn Roy Richardson (OBW) had 41-5-0 in 4th.
