Boldings report

Boldings Report 31/3/09

Maver rods took three of the top four places on the Sunday open at Boldings Pools, but it OB Wolves man Dave Craggs who took the winners purse. He was only angler on the Beech Pool to frame, but made it count when he hauled in 99-3-0 at peg 3. Caster down the edge was the telling method, and helped dave to attract carp to 8lbs.

First up for Maver was Simon Richardson who topped the Larch Pool card with 81-15-0, on shallow fished maggot at peg 16 to claim second. Just behind Simon, at peg 5 on the Larch was Dave Brown on 75-1-0, and Richard Lawson was also close with a Willows best of 75-1-0 for 4th.

Nige Clarke (Fox Match) started the week at Boldings with a win on a chilly Wednesday open which saw the Beech Pool give the first three weights. Nige drew peg 20 and fished to the paddles, offering maggot, up in the water to find carp to 5lbs on his way to 44-8-0 and top spot.

Over on peg 33 Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) worked with pellet and corn close in for an even 40-0-0 of carp to 6lbs to finish second. Third and fourth were separated by only 4 ounces when Pete Plant (Maver) put 37-6-0 on the scales at beech 23 and Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) posted a Sycamore best of 37-2-0.

Weights shot up on Thursday when the Hawthorn gave top catch to Graham Evason (OBW) after he alternated between 3 metres and 6 metres with pellet. Carp to lbs homed in on the bait, and before the whistle sounded, Graham had slipped the net under a total of 91-2-0.

On the opposite bank of the Hawthorn Martin Davenport (Dorset Pools) fished to the island from peg 11 to pick off carp to 6lbs with maggot and corn, ending the day on 70-1-0 in second spot.

Dave Barnard (R&G) had the best catch from the Oak with 51-10-0 at peg 1, then it was back to the Hawthorn for 4th in the form of Joe Brennan (OBW) who had 45-6-0 at peg 5.

Andy Williams (Dorset Pools) took a turn at the top on Saturday after drawing peg 14 on the Ash, and ringing the changes with shallow fished maggot and close in pellet. Carp to 7 lbs added up to 77-10-0, which gave him an 11lb advantage over runner up John Francis (R&G). John was on the same bank of the Ash at peg 18 and worked with pellet at 5 metres and 9 metres to net 66-10-0.

Third placed Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) had the best catch of the day on the Sycamore, 58-3-0 form peg 49, Dave Craggs (OBW) made 4th with 38-2-0 from Ash 20, John Wild (Stafford) was top on the Oak with 35-5-0 and Joe Brennan picked up again thanks to 34-15-0, which was top on the Hawthorn.
