Boldings report

Boldings Report 17/3/09

Andy Williams (Vespe) had a very successful week at Boldings Pools, with three wins, and Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) has shaken off the effects of his recent health problems to score a first and a third.

Jack Hailey (OB Wolves) started the week with a win on the Wednesday open when he narrowly beat Howard Williams (Wrexham). Jack was on peg 1 on the chestnut Pool and scaled 69-8-0, while Howard had a Sycamore best of 67-2-0 for second. Dave Barnard (R &G) netted 58-4-0 at Sycamore 13 for third with Dave Matson (R&G) on 51-8-0 taking 4th.

Andy Williams enjoyed his first victory on Thursday, when the finish was a close one again. Andy fished maggot up in the water, and corn at 7metres at peg 30 on the Chestnut, to finish on 76-11-0.

Ian Hodson (Swan JT) fished maggot, shallow at Chestnut 16, and included a carp of 20lbs in a 74-9-0 runner up.

Mel Kitson warmed up for the Saturday open with a third best 61-13-0, the top score from the Sycamore Pool, and 4th man Chris Small (Wednesbury) also took his 59-6-0 from the Sycamore.

Saturday saw Kitson record the top catch of the week, 94-8-0, to finish with over 20lbs to spare. This time he was on the Chestnut, and tackled peg 16 with corn and pellet, fished to each side of the peg.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) was on the other side of the Chestnut at peg 30 and alternated fishing close in and at 8 metres with pellet to net 72-15-0. Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver) led the Larch Pool catches with 68-9-0 for third, and Dave Matson had another 4th with 56-1-0 from the Chestnut.

Andy Williams was back in charge on Sunday, putting together a net of 84-1-0 at Chestnut peg 21 by fishing corn close in for carp to 4lbs.

Dave Brown (Maver) offered caster up in the water at 12 metres from peg 23 on the Beech Pool to pop 77-1-0 in the net for second, and a Sycamore top score of 70-1-0 gave Graham Roberts (OBW) third at peg 4, then back on the Beech scaled 65-6-0 for 4th.

Williams two in two days by winning the Monday Affordable open at Boldings when he drew peg 21 again, but this time on the Sycamore. No close in tactics this time though, and it was shallow fished maggot, out at 12 metres which saw Andy netting carp to 8lbs on his way to 87-8-0.

Over on the long bank of the Sycamore Chris Holmes (BAS) worked with shallow maggot at 12 metres, alternated with corn close in for 71-13-0 to claim second, ahead of Richard Lawson (Maver) on 65-15-0. Only 3 ounces behind Lawson was Kevin Melville (Dorset Pools) on 65-12-0.
