Boldings Report 4/6/08

Tony Foster (OB Wolves) was the man of the week at Boldings Pools, taking the top catch of the week to romp home in first place on the Wednesday open, scaling 141-3-0. The catch consisted of a lot of carp in the 1lb to 3lb range, and fell to shallow fished pellet at peg 16 on the Ash Pool.

On the opposite side of the Ash, Pete Plant (Maver Midlands) worked with caster close in at peg 7, and while he had carp to 6lbs, he couldn’t match the winners catch rate, and finished well behind on 60-15-0.

Along at peg 4 on the Ash Harry Colley (OB Wolves followed up last weeks win with a third by scaling 55-0-0. Best on the Willows Pool, and 4th overall was Martin Travis (Sensas TA) on 43-12-0 at peg 13.

Dan Shinton (Bridgnorth) came out on top in a close finish with Jeff Harston (Weston Pools) on Thursday. They were opposite each other on the Sycamore Pool, with Dan on peg 32, where corn and pellet at 6 metres and close in attracted carp to 6lbs. Jeff  fished pellet, up in the water at peg 23, and had carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs.

When scales settled, Dan was credited with 63-10-0, and Jeff was one fish behind on an even 60lbs.

Paul Cartwright (OB Wolves) just scraped home in third with a Chestnut best of 53-6-0, with Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) hard on his heels with an Oak Pool best of 53-3-0.

Paul Cartwright moved up to first place on Saturday to follow up his Bank Holiday win of last week. This time he was on the Larch Pool and fished pellet at 10 metres, towards the island at peg 24, and netted carp to 7lbs for a 75-6-0 total.

Dave Brown (Wolverhampton) opted for shallow fished maggot at peg 16 on the Beech, and had carp from 1lb to 4lbs in a runner net of 58-9-0. Close behind Dave was fellow Wolves rod Tom Lee on 57-1-0 at Beech peg 3.

Back on the Larch Dave Barnard (R&G) scaled 49-12-0 at peg 15 to take 4th, and best on the Ash was 5th man Ralph Johnson on 47-10-0.

On Sunday it was Mel Kitson’s turn to convert a mid week placing to a week-end win, and at the same time make it four different pools giving the winning catch.

Mel drew peg 5 on the Willows and alternated paste at 5 metres with corn close in to ease ahead of the field. His final tally of 77-6-0 was mainly carp to 5lbs, but included  a belting bream of 7lbs.

Second went to an Oak Pool best of 63-2-0 by John Newton (WB Clarke) who fish the margins with maggot for carp to 6lbs. Dave Brown framed again with another pool best, taking a close third from the Chestnut with 62-12-0, with Jack Hailey (OB Wolves) just behind on 60-7-0, also from the Chestnut. Best on the Sycamore was Phil Rhodes (Mid Leisure) on 59-4-0.
