Boldings report

SPORTS DESK  27/2/07

Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) kicked of another week of consistent weights at Boldings Pools. Drawn on corner peg 15 on the Ash Pool on Wednesday, Mel fished corn and pellet into the side for 63-7-0 of carp to 6lbs.

Martin Travis (Dorset AC) was only just over a pound adrift with an Ash Pool best of 62-1-0 from peg 7, where he caught at 10 metres and close in on pellet. Pete Plant (Maver Tipton) was on the opposite side of the Ash to Martin, and was some way behind in third with 46-6-0 at peg 20. Fourth came from Hawthorn peg 3, where Dave Brown (Maver Tipton) scaled 44-8-0.

Dave Brown moved up to top spot on Thursday, when the Deepdale Pool gave the top three catches. Dave’s catch of 54-15-0 consisted entirely of fish up to 2lbs, and included some lovely rudd to 1lb, and came to shallow fished corn, on the 10 metre line.

Opposite the winner, at peg 5, Graham Lane (F1 Match) fished close in and at 6 metres with pellet, for carp to 5lbs, to end on 49-13-0. Tony Foster (OB Wolves) scaled 37-6-0 at Deepdale 3 for third, and a Beech best of 33-13-0 gave Andy Williams (Rod & Gun) fourth.

On Saturday the Ash Pool took its turn to provide the winner, and Carl Foster (OB Wolves) stepped up to the mark. He fished pellet, up in the water at 12 metres from peg 5, and had carp in the 1lb to 3lb range, to build a winning 68-1-0 total.

Deepdale peg 4 saw Dave Barnard (Maver Wolves) add yet another frame place to an ever growing list. He operated with pellet at 10 metres, and maggot, close in, for 56-12-0. Jack Hailey (WAC Tackle) edged third from Kevin Melville (Phoenix) by 7 ounces. Jack weighed 47-15-0 at Deepdale 6, and Kevin had a Hawthorn best of 47-8-0.

Everyone except John Francis (Rod & Gun) found the going harder on Sunday. John cruised to victory with the top catch of the week, and for the fourth time in four matches, it was a different pool which gave the winning catch.

This time it was the Beech Pool, and ‘Franner’ fished pellet at 10 metres, alternated with close in for 72-8-0 of carp to 8lbs.

Runner up Paul Cartwright had less than half the winners weight at Chestnut peg 26, where 31-9-0 gave him the place. Over on the opposite bank of the chestnut, Steve Lawrence (OB Wolves) put 29-4-0 on the scales for third, and in the corner, to the right of the runner up, Colin Reynolds (Bilston Angling) filled the final frame place of the week with 28-9-0.
