Boldings report

SPORTS DESK 20/2/07

Match weights climbed steadily as the week progressed and the weather improved at Boldings Pools.

Ian Place (Telford) kicked things off on Wednesday taking a 48-11-0 by fishing corn and maggot out to the stumps at peg 11 on the Stock Pool. Ian included carp to 5 lbs and some cracking perch to 3lbs in his catch.

Over on peg one on the Stock, Stuart Aston (Swan Jacks), last weeks winner, fished to the far bank with pellet and corn to find carp to 4lbs for a41-0-0 runner up total.

There was another pool best for Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) who took 3rd overall with 40-1-0 at Hawthorn peg 13. Back on the Stock, Dave Barnard (Maver Wolves) was a close 4th with 39-2-0 from peg 7.

Peg 11 on the Stock did the business again on Thursday, this time for Colin Reynolds (Bilston Angling). The perch stayed out of the picture and Colin had all carp, to 4lbs for 49-7-0, with the stumps again proving the productive area.

Down on the Deepdale, Mick Lane (Aldridge) had carp to 4lbs and some handsome rudd to a pound on maggot and corn, to take second with 40-13-0 at peg 4. The Middle Pool gave third to Ted Ecclestone (Maver Wolves) who scaled 31-2-0 at peg 1, and Dave Barnard was fourth again, this time with 29-0-0 from Deepdale 14.

Three different pools gave the top three scores again on Saturday, and on Sunday. On Saturday, Deepdale peg 4 produced again to give Mick Jameson (Middy ML) his turn at the top. Mick fished pellet at 10 metres to pick off carp in the 1lb to 5lb bracket steadily, to stay ahead of the field, finishing on 61-4-0.

Mel Kitson moved up from 3rd to 2nd with yet another pool best when he scaled 52-5-0, having caught on corn to each side of Beech peg 11.

Middle peg 1 gave third for the second time on the trot when Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Rod & Gun) popped 44-9-0 in the weigh bucket, leaving Neil Jones (Wrexham) on 40-5-0 at Deepdale 14, to collect 4th.

Sunday saw a big turn-out and a victory for Gary Morris (OB Wolves) to add to his runner up of last week. He drew peg 21 on the Chestnut and offered corn and pellet to the island. Carp to 7lbs accepted to give a final tally of 65-10-0.

Matt Stobbs (Rod & Gun) had the highest number of fish on the day, as all his 55-12-0 total were in the 1lb to 3lb range. He caught on pellet, close in at peg 9 on the Ash.

Dave Brown (Maver Tipton) was only 11 ounces behind Matt with 55-1-0 at Beech peg 20, and Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Angling Center) was 4th with 48-14-0 at Beech 3.
