On Saturday last week at Boldings Pools Scott Harding established himself as a comfortable winner of the open by finishing 30lbs clear with a level 100-0-0. He was pegged number 8 on the Larch Pool and caught on maggot, bagging carp to 8lbs and bream to 2lbs, by alternating between the 6 metre line and close in.

Chris Newbrook [Oakengates Ang Cent] had all carp to 6lbs at Larch peg 1, taking his fish on maggot and pellet at 8 metres and close in to record 71-11-0 for second. In between the top two, at peg 4 Richard Davenport [Oswestry] filled third spot with 60-7-0, with fourth going to a Chestnut top weight of 57-6-0 by Gary Hick [Oswestry] at peg 10.

Weights shot up on Sunday when Harry Colley put in a blistering performance with his pellet, corn and meat bait combination at peg 4 on the Sycamore, drawing in carp to 9lbs as well as barbel and bream to 3lbs to the close in line. By the time the finishing horn sounded, Harry had an impressive 201-5-0 to hand over to the scales.

On the end of the pool, at peg 47, Eric Bancroft [PI Boldings] was also catching well with his pellet and paste approach, but gradually fell behind, ending the match with 131-12-0 of carp to 9lbs and barbel to 4lbs. Third came from the Oak Pool, where Gareth Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] was top man, his third overall 104-130 coming from peg 22. Back on the Sycamore, Steve Roberts [Oak Ang Cent] scaled 96-12-0 at peg 22 to take fourth.

Phil Shaw [PI Bold] finished some way ahead on Monday by adopting a shallow approach to present his pellet and maggot bait duo at Sycamore peg 8. Carp to 8lbs responded to give Phil a return of 158-5-0.

Eric Bancroft picked up another runner up pay-out when his pellet and paste accounted for 85-14-0 of carp to 7lbs at peg 16. Bronx grouped Dave Cole earned third with a level 54-0-0 at peg 25.

The first of two wins for Dave Brown [Maver] came on Wednesday after he drew peg 3 on the Ash Pool, which he tackled with maggot to fish at 6 metres as well as down the side to bag 124-12-0 of carp to 8lbs.

Runner up Ron Clarke {PI Bold] offered pellet and corn at Beech peg 7 for a net of carp to 7lbs weighing 74-5-0, and at Ash peg 20 Scott Harding put himself in the frame again by scaling 65-3-0.

Dave Brown took complete charge of the Thursday open to record his second win of the week, and it was maggot which did the business again. This time Dave worked his bait shallow, alternated with presenting it at depth, and picked off carp to 8lbs and bream to 2lbs all through the match to end the day on 201-9-0 at Chestnut peg 39.

At Chestnut 10 Mick Keene [Tricast Weston] combined pellet and maggot to fish at 5 metres and close in to net 115-8-0 of carp to 7lbs to claim second. Scott Harding paid his third visit to the prize table, courtesy of a Larch Pool top weight of 106-2-0 from peg 16, and also on the Larch was Steve Roberts, who collected his second fourth prize of the week thanks to 102-15-0 from peg 22.
