Boldings report    9-3-16.

Jason Andrews [Weston Pools] made his trip down from Oswestry to Bridgnorth pay off with a comfortable win in the Monday open at Boldings Pools.

Fishing to the far bank of Oak peg 18 with maggot saw Andrews pull clear of a close three way battle for the remaining prize places, with a steady supply of carp in the 6lbs bracket adding up to 77-3-0.

Best of the rest was Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] at peg 16. Colin included roach and skimmers to a pound with carp to 5lbs in his runner up 48-10-0, all caught on maggot at 12 metres. Steve Owen [Monkhall] at peg 11 and Phil Rhodes [PI Boldings] at peg 4 each weighed 46-1-0 to share third.

Andrews returned to Boldings on Wednesday and struck gold again to make it two wins in two trips. The going was much harder this time, with near blizzard conditions at times putting Larch Pool in a subdued mood, and Jason was under pressure from Graham Palmer [PI Bold] all the way to the whistle. Pegged on number 22 the Weston man, like Mondays runner up, had carp, with skimmers and roach in a winning net of 31-13-0, which fell to maggot at 10 metres.

Palmer was on peg 24, and he too caught at 10 metres using maggot, and also had carp skimmers and roach to finish less than 2lbs behind on 30-1-0. Steve Owen was third again, his level 28-0-0 coming from peg 4, and just along the bank at peg 6 Mick Perry [PI Bold] scaled 26-8-0 in fourth.

Persistence paid off for Steve Owen on Thursday when he followed up his two third place finishes with a reasonably comfortable win from corner peg 50 on the Sycamore Pool. As in all of the matches last week, maggot was the top bait, and Steve worked it at 13 metres to contact carp and barbel, with fish of 6lbs and 4lbs respectively giving a winning total of 71-9-0.

Phil Taylor [Dams & Locks] opted for a maggot feeder approach at Willows peg 14 and was rewarded with an all barbel catch of 57-9-0, which featured samples to 5lbs. Back on the Sycamore, last Thursdays winner Paul Davies [Willenhall] pulled in 48-11-0 at peg 8 to pick up third, and then it was back to Willows for the 38-15-0 which handed fourth to Jordan Hall [Middy] at peg 17.

Weights dipped again on Saturday when rain and sleet moved back in to depress the anglers as well as the fish. Ken Humphreys  joined Jason Andrews in making the trip from Oswestry a worthwhile one by claiming a win. Ken presented maggot close in and at 10 metres from peg 14 on the Beech to put himself in touch with carp to 5lbs and a total of 39-7-0.

Steve Owen completed a highly successful week at the complex by recording the top weight on the Oak Pool to add a runner up spot to his list. His maggot to the far bank at peg 31 resulted in 35-3-0 of carp to 4lbs going onto the scales. At Beech peg 7 Chris Newbrook [Oakengates Ang Cent] had a level 31-0-0 in third, and back on the Oak 4th went to Kel Emlyn [Oak Ang Cent] on 28-11-0.

Better weather brought better weights on Sunday and Dave Brown {Maver] set the best of the week to score a narrow victory. He was on peg 48 on the Sycamore and only to go out to 5 metres to find carp to 7lbs and barbel to 4lbs with maggot bait. At the whistle he had managed to stay one fish ahead of runner up Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] and weighed in 83-5-0 for victory.

Andy was on the Oak Pool, at peg 27 and worked maggot to the stumps and at 6 metres an all carp 81-4-0, featuring fish to 5lbs. Round at corner peg 31 on the Oak, Scott Doodson [Maver] put his name on third with a net of 68-1-0. Then it was back to the Sycamore where another Maver rod, Sean Barber, had 62-14-0 for fourth at peg 13.
