report

Boldings report    23-2-16.

Keith Powell [PI Boldings] picked up a win at Boldings Pools on Monday when he drew peg 9 on the Hawthorn Pool. With maggot still the dominant bait, Keith worked it close to the island and to the near bank, for a 57-10-0 net of carp to 6lbs.

Chris Holmes [Middle Severn Angling] was on the Beech Pool and went out to 12 metres on peg 18 to find his runner up 41-9-0 of carp to 4lbs. Third came from the Hawthorn in the shape of Steve Forest [Nomads] whose 35-11-0 from peg 5 just kept Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] at bay with his 35-3-0 from Beech 26.

The winning weight dipped to 45-5-0 on Wednesday when Tony Woolaston [Fatty's] got ahead in a close finish. He was on Willows peg 17 and presented maggot at 8 metres for a mix of carp to 4lbs and barbel to 3lbs.

One more fish would have made all the difference to Tony Foster [PI Bold] at peg 4 on the Sycamore. He fished pellet and maggot into the corner and out at 10 metres to pick off carp to 5lbs, but the end of the match came just a little too soon, leaving him on 42-3-0.  Paul Evans [PI Bold] was in the opposite corner from Foster, and only one more fish behind on 40-13-0. Fourth came from the Willows when Gary Steele [Kings] weighed 36-4-0 at Willows peg 4.

What a difference a day made, when, although it was icy on Thursday, the winning weight shot up to over 122lbs, the best weight of year so far. Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] was the beneficiary of the big improvement, which he made the most of at peg 16 on the Larch, by fishing shallow with maggot, close to the weed bed. Carp to 6lbs homed in on the bait and pushed Clive's final tally to 122-2-0.

Fellow Weston rod Howard Williams tagged a second place onto his fourth of last week by posting a Sycamore top score of 72-15-0, which was mostly barbel in the 4lbs class, caught on maggot at 8 metres from peg 50. Terry Edwards [Swan Elite] was another 'framer' from last week who was in the picture again, his 61-2-0 from Ash peg 14 giving him third. Like Sycamore peg 50, peg 4 featured again, giving Paul Evans [PI Bold] fourth for his 59-11-0.

Steve Roberts [Oakengates Ang Cent] hit 'the hundred' on Saturday when he made Sycamore peg 8 a winner for the first time in quite a while. Steve employed close in maggot tactics to get the interest of carp to 5lbs and barbel to 4lbs, which built up to a 117-15-0 winning bag.

Marshall Sherwood [PI Bold] is a name to keep an eye on for the future. He is 13 years old and has only recently started open match fishing, but he beat some top class opposition to claim second spot on this match. He was drawn on Sycamore peg 48 and bagged carp to 7lbs together with barbel to 3lbs, by alternating long pole with close in tactics to offer maggot, and finished the day on 84-3-0. Third went to a Willows best of 62-1-0 from peg 5 by Shane Rogers [Oak Ang Cent] and fourth

In spite of the signs of an early spring, like blackthorn bushes in blossom and quite of bit of green beginning to show in the hedgerows, no one expected the all ton frame which the Sunday open produced.

Dave Hailey [PI Bold] made sure that Clive Wynn had a short reign as holder of the best weight of the year by setting a new standard on this match. Peg 50 on the Sycamore featured for the third time as Dave hammered out 142-5-0 on short pole in front of the peg and to each side. Maggot brought in carp to 7lbs and barbel to 4lbs, which built up the winning total.

Runner up Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] also had carp and barbel at Oak peg 31, with fish of 8lbs and 3lbs coming to his maggot bait and returning 128-5-0. Steve Roberts was in the list again, third this time with 114-6-0 from Sycamore 46, and Colin Reynolds also picked up again, his 110-0-0 giving him fourth at Sycamore peg 8.
