Boldings report

Boldings report    9-12-15.

The Wednesday open was the first match of the week at Boldings this week and Stuart Aston [Swan] elevated himself from fourth last week to top of the list this week on a hard day on the Oak Pool. Drawn peg 1 on the end of the dam, Stuart managed an even 44-0-0 by working pellet and corn at 5 metres and in the side, where carp to 5lbs made up the catch.

Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] was up at the other end of the pool on peg 22 where maggot at 10 metres and close in gave another set of even figures, 38-0-0, which consisted of carp to 4lbs. Fellow Tricast Weston rod Howard Williams followed in the frame, his 27-6-0 coming from peg 16 and along at peg 29, 24-9-0 gave fourth to Phil Rhodes [PI Boldings].

Things were tight on Thursday on the Sycamore Pool with exactly two pounds between the top two. Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] finished with the advantage at peg 47, where carp to 5lbs and barbel to 3lbs, caught on maggot at 10 metres, returned 59-8-0.

Phil Rhodes improved on his fourth place finish the previous day by netting a mix of carp to 6lbs and bream to 2lbs totalling 57-8-0. His fish fell to maggot at 7 metres and in the margins at peg 16. Terry Edwards [Swan Elite] picked up third thanks to 49-2-0 at peg 8, leaving Graham Roberts [PI Bold] to collect fourth at peg 6 where he scaled 42-0-0.

In a gale battered Saturday match Dave Cole [Bronx] hung on for victory at peg 7 on the Hawthorn Pool, defying the maggot domination to win a pellet fed 35-5-0. Offering the bait at 8 metres put Dave in touch with carp to 5lbs.

At peg 1 on the Hawthorn Chris Newbrook [Oakengates Ang Cent] stuck with maggot at 6 metres, but was one fish short of filling top spot when the match finished, leaving him on 33-8-0. Top man on the Stock Pool was third placed Richard Lawson [WB Clarke] with 26-6-0 at peg 11.

Paul Wheeler [PI Bold] just sneaked top weight of the week on Sunday when his maggot at 12 metres, alternated with close in tactics, resulted in a haul of carp to 6lbs and barbel to 3lbs which weighed 60-7-0 at peg 21 on the Sycamore.

Peg 47 was in the frame again, this time for Steve Hall [Oswestry], but a smaller stamp of carp saw him fall behind the winner, to finish with 52-8-0 of carp to 4lbs, and barbel to 3lbs. Point peg 8 produced third again and gave Graham Roberts his second frame finish of the week by yielding 50-8-0, enough to hold off Paul Hemmings [Monkhall] on 47-11-0 at peg 45.
